At no point did he explain why he lied about it. And that's weird. Why would he tell her he had applied for the K-1 visa if he hadn't? She doesn't seem to give a sh*t about moving to the USA all that quickly.
-
Actually, I thought no formal ring giving is required for that, at least at the application stage. You just have to sign the letters saying you intend to get married. Now maybe at the interview they demand to see the ring.

This Steven-Olga K-1 visa story angle is weird. If he told her he applied for the visa shortly after they found she was pregnant, then I’d expect that was 6-7 months or so before the birth. The K-1 visa takes about ten months to process, which would put her on track to get the visa and move to the USA 2-4 months after the birth. So if he secretly waited to apply until after he got to Russia, right before the birth, that would be a really, really big lie, setting them back some seven months. That type of lie typically wouldn’t be forgiven so quickly. Also, K-1 visas have to be applied for in the USA. Now maybe he could have Fedexed it from Russia to the office or lockbox in the USA, but I don’t know about that. Your K-1 application must include a lot of info from the fiancee (Olga) and a letter from the fiancee saying “I want to move to the USA and get married to this jackass.” And I think that letter has to be dated within the last thirty days before you file the application. So as much as I hate to be a 90DF conspiracy theorist, I just don’t find this story angle about this supposed lie to be credible. I don’t believe that Olga has been in the dark and thought the application was filed seven months ago, and then her friend suggested that he hadn’t filed it, and then he confessed, and then she immediately forgave him and joyfully accepted his proposal.

Yes, Olga was eligible for a non-immigrant work visa to the USA before she got knocked up. One of the questions that the USA asks on visa applications is for you to list all family members in the USA. If you have family members in the USA, you are at higher risk to overstay. If you're a young Russian woman who gets knocked up by an American, and he takes your baby to the USA, your chances of then getting a non-immigrant/work/student/tourist visa to the USA go way, way down. Also, if she applied for another work/tourist/student visa they would see in the system that she already had a pending K-1 visa to immigrate. They're not going to give her any more non-immigrant visas, because they know she really, really wants to immigrate to the USA. She's eligible to immigrate permanently on a fiancee visa, but she's basically no longer eligible to just visit, because it's obvious she would never want to go back I agree that the chances of Steven getting the baby out of Russia without her permission are zero. The Russians wouldn't demand to see the baby's American visa, but they would demand to see permission from the mother. I don't fault TLC for using this storyline. Even if Steven's chances of pulling off his baby escape plan are zero, the fact that he is trying to do it, or threatening to do it, and telling Olga she has no say in the matter, is very revealing as to his true nature. Now, if Steven has no intention to taking the baby from her and going to America, and they are just making him say that stuff to look like an asshat (like the scripted "Thai massage" line from last season) then yes, that's disgusting, and Steven is stupid for playing along.

I agree that he doesn't need DNA proof, but I think there's slightly more required than just him declaring that he's the father. Like, first of all, he has to present the baby at the embassy, and the consular staff eyeballs the baby and looks him up and down him and decides that they look enough alike or at least that the baby isn't a totally different ethnicity. Like remember from a prior season there was Josh and Aleksandra the Russian party girl, who had a black daughter that they said was his? Well, if that baby were born in Russia and Josh walked into the embassy with that girl and said it was his, they would demand more proof. Anyway, I think Steven probably has to bring proof that he knows Olga and they were in the same country during the time frame when the baby was conceived. If her fiancee visa is denied for some reason, they can apply again, or they can get married in Russia and apply for a spouse visa. And of course the sensible thing to do is to leave the breast feeding baby with the mother while all that is sorted out, it's not going to kill the kid to spend a year or two in Russia. Olga should just tell Steven that the baby goes to the USA when she goes to the USA. He didn't even know that SSN meant "social security number"

News article about it. Horrific. Maybe this is why she thinks Steven is perfectly normal. https://www.news24.com/World/News/Couple-tried-over-exorcism-killing-20111101?cpid=1&fbclid=IwAR0g_hQ_JyhcnugfXco70YrS9OuL0loNXnKUcGmgdw-k2wBvtqbN_F8qtpY

Holy sh-t. It's like everyone in this show has a really troubled background. Danielle bouncing checks, Ashley being kidnapped and assaulted, Paul's an arsonist, Larissa abandoned three kids in Brazil, David and Annie probably met at a hooker bar, Jorge was a felon, Eric was homeless, etc. I wouldn't blame Olga for really wanting a fresh start in a new country if this were the case.
-
Did Steven rent a car for weeks while in Russia, or does Olga own it? Russia generally has extensive public transport and it has taxi apps (probably without baby seats) and I don't understand why he'd rent a car. Driving a car in Russia, with Russian street signs and Russia road rules and those batsh-t crazy Russian dashcam incidents would just be another source of stress for unstable Steven and a way for him to inadvertently get arrested for doing something wrong.
-
I want to know more about Eric's period of homelessness and more about his failed "last relationship" that Tasha mentioned, what country was she from and did he find her on HoboCupid?
-
I think that's a real risk for her. She would have no right to remain in the USA if she doesn't marry him. And she wouldn't be permitted to take the baby back to Russia without his permission or court approval. And a U.S. court might be reluctant to let her take the kid back to Russia, perhaps never to be seen by Steven again, if Steven opposes that.
-
I have exited Russia a half dozen times, as an American tourist, without carrying a damn baby, and it involves, at a minimum, standing in front of a guy in an immigration booth while he scrutinizes my passport, passport stamps, visa, and police registration forms. A month ago I had five Russian officers in my train compartment at the Kazakhstan border looking at my passport with magnifying glasses and black lights and interrogating me about dates of entry, etc. If your papers aren't in order, they don't let you leave until that's corrected. Steven isn't exactly Jason Bourne, he's not getting out of Russia with the baby unless Olga signs off on it. She just has to decide whether she'd rather raise her baby in shitty corrupt Russia, where she has all the power over Steven, or move to the baby to the USA, and then, if Steven turns out to be a psycho, she won't be able to take the baby back to Russia without his permission.

I'm curious about this too. I still have no idea why he would marry an aging, chubby Indonesian woman who bosses him around instead of a younger Filipina or Thai woman who would actually be nice to him every day. Russia has exit immigration controls. I'm confident that he couldn't take a Russian born baby out of Russia without the Russian mother's permission. The baby's brand new American passport will have no Russian visa in it, and there would be some red tape to get the baby out of the country even if Olga were going with them.

Colt & Larissa & Debbie: Me, You, and Bith Phtew
gavinmac replied to Drogo's topic in The Couples (Spoilers)
She doesn't deserve anyone better. She abandoned 2-3 kids in Brazil from 2-3 different dads and is pretending to love a guy with Asperger's in order to get a green card. -

Yes, and when Colt respond "I'm not a whore" the emphasis wasn't on "whore." The emphasis seemed to be on "I'M . . . not a whore." I thought she would pick up on the fact that he was subtly insinuating she was a whore. -

Yes, if you call the police and report a crime like someone throwing a phone book at your head, and the police arrive and the dude says "Yup, I threw the phone book at her" then an arrest will be made. That's not an Iowa thing. They don't have a policy of arresting people who are in a non-violent domestic argument. That's good stuff. It's pretty accurate. I find it refreshing though because many of the dorky American men on the show are easily whipped and cave to the young foreign gold digger's demands. He doesn't. Obviously, it's not a recipe for a long lasting relationship. She will leave him in two years when she gets her green card, and I don't think he'll be all that upset about it. -
I don't know Russian law specifically, but I'd be shocked if he could leave Russia with a Russian-born baby without the consent of the Russian mother. If he wants to steal the baby from her, he's better off taking them both to the USA and then refusing to marry her and then maybe she gets sent back to Russia after ninety days without the U.S. citizen baby.
-
Those living conditions are perfectly adequate and nicer than the home that 90% on Indonesians have. She's only going to be with him for two years until she gets a green card and job anyway.

If Leida's father had real money, he would have swooped into Baraboo like King Jaffe Joffer, rejected the apartment, and offered to but them the biggest home in town. Instead, he offered to pay one or two months of rent. Her parents aren't that rich. Which is fine, but they shouldn't be making Eric feel like crap because he's less rich than they are.
-
Leida is thirty years old. Why do she and sister speak of whether her parents will "let" her stay with Eric?

I got that feeling also. We all did. Steven was standing over her, folding his arms, glaring at her and intimidating her. While she's in bed from her C-Section. It was a scary side of him. He seems to have real "daddy issues." His father died young or wasn't there for him, and he therefore has this emotional obsession with being a good/perfect/totally committed father that he never dad. When she asked him to wash his hands after touching shoes and before touching the newborn baby, she kind of had a point. And he knew she had a fair point. He should have just rolled his eyes and washed his hands again. But he couldn't admit she was right, because to him, accidentally forgetting to wash dirty hands before touching baby = "I'm a terrible father." It was a similar reaction to the Russian nurses who told him he couldn't be in the delivery room. Most American dads would have said "I'd like to be there, but I'll respect their rules, and if I can't, then I can't." Not Steven. It was imperative that he be in the delivery room to prove to everyone that he's a great father. I think if you encountered Steven on a bus and said "You're an ugly loser high school drop out," he'd laugh it off. But if you said "Excuse me your son's nose is running, maybe you should wip"-- BAM! Steven's gonna punch you. Because he never got to play catch with his dad.

Balcony of Woe! I think I commented weeks ago, maybe on another thread, that Eric should have just gotten himself a super-hot looking 25 year old Filipina on a dating site. He could have shopper for younger, better looking, and a woman who wouldn't have minded that apartment at all and been happy to cook and clean for him. Instead, he went for an older, average looking single woman with a kid and all the family baggage, a wife who who complains about everything thinks cooking and cleaning are beneath her. I don't get it.

Interesting article about fathers in the delivery room in Russia. https://www.rbth.com/lifestyle/329054-partnered-birth-in-russia

It's Russia. There's a lot of bureaucracy. And they probably want to make sure drunk fathers aren't in the delivery rooms screwing things up.
