  1. I'll admit I'm a total Disney lover and tonight really is just fun. The people who get the more unknown (or not even released!) songs get screwed though. That had to be Keo's easiest dance ever- sit here on this throne! Sasha seemed sweet but still not that sad to see her go. Her rumba seemed odd in that all her moments seemed half done. Kermit and his little 10 paddle cracked me up.
  2. Oh, good point, I didn't even think of that. She does so well on the ballroom dances that I forget she literally can't feel her feet.
  3. OH, it's the Most Maudlin Night of the Year! Seriously, how are you supposed to judge someone dancing about a dead parent or their kid's cancer? I will say that there is no one on this season that I cringe when they dance. However I wasn't a fan of a couple of the early dances. Nikki was great when she was on the silks but once she got off of them it was very step-by-step. Go here. Jump. Wait for Artem. There was no flow. Peta and Nick had flow but Peta favors that super frenetic contemporary choreography where you have to do a move a beat no matter what the music is doing which is a style I really dislike. Uh, Frankie, buddy? You might want to get that memory issue checked out. If it's just because of the concussions and there is nothing to be done, okay. But memory loss can also be a sign of brain tumors among other things (I work with brain tumor patients.) You can totally tell that Jonathan hasn't been dancing for three months like Drew has. Even their suits fit them differently. Props to him though for learning so much of the dance. I can't even imagine what Victoria has gone through. Although I'm the first to yell and complain about "contemporary" and "jazz" on this show this is one time I actually wished she had had contemporary so she could have just gone wild instead of having to stay in the Foxtrot hold. I almost didn't recognize Val clean shaven. Random fact I just learned: Nick Lachey, Terrell Owens, and Derek Fisher are all the same age (within 1 year of each other). All are 3 years older than "Grandpa" Ross of last season.
  4. I think the "trickery" Carrie Ann was referring to is just clever choreography. Like if Val needed Victoria's weight to shift a certain way or her leg to go a certain way to put in a turn that would force her to naturally do that instead of asking her to do it (if she is even able to). Also, realizing the moves that she are harder for her and not putting them in the routine or hiding them while showcasing moves she can do. Derek did it with Amy Purdy and Sharna did it with Noah as well.
  5. See, I'm normally a band apologist cause I think it's a little ridiculous to expect one band and four whole singers to be able to do like classical, Latin, boy band, and Frank Sinatra all in one night but tonight was just bad. I realized they sped up the Fresh Prince but that theme song is iconic. I could have pulled people off the street to do it better.
  6. I do like when DWTS can be a little bit of fun and escapism cause today...yeah. Tom Bergeron always knows the right words to say. Glad there was no elimination tonight. I was happy that the first few dances seemed longer than those from the previous two weeks. However I wasn't really into the any of the "Jazz" dances. Vanessa's was okay- dancing in sync like that isn't easy but the others- blah. Sasha's especially seemed like they never actually danced. I think when you take the sexy away from Gleb he really has nothing left. Artem's hair looks a million times better now that it is all dyed. Lindsey and Mark were awesome. Though I will donate to the Mark Ballas Hair Cut Fund. (Alan, yours looks stupid too). Frankie is still adorable. Witney is more engaged than she has been the past four seasons, combined. I'm always the first to yell when a pro doesn't really do the assigned dance but I really thought Lindsay did okay with a really rough song. I would have never pegged Jordan as a comic book geek- makes me love him a little more. We will not talk what was done to Tubthumping and the poor Fresh Prince tonight.
  7. Debbie Gibson: "I always go for strumpet." (Vanessa is mock interviewing in practice) Maks:"You know Tom isn't going anywhere, right?" Tom: "Artem hasn't had a carbohydrate in 10 years!" Erin: "I think Tom is just trying to wrangle Len and Bruno." Truer words Erin, truer words
  8. What WERE the judges on tonight? The scores seemed okay but they were goofy as all hell. I realized at the elimination that I genuinely like everyone this season and would be fine with all of them staying. I feel like this season there are obviously different skill levels but there is no one I have to watch cringing. I will say though that there are a ton of people I still forget about (Sasha, Derek, Nikki, Lindsey). The scores seemed more realistic tonight. I can't believe Frankie Muniz is leading the competition but good for him, he seems to be working his butt off for it. Val that was not a rumba. At best it was a lyrical dance with rumba stylings. You had to know you were going to get slammed for that. Victoria had no hip action because I don't know if he gave her a move that would allow hip action. Drew was 7000% less awkward tonight. He actually looked good out there! What was with the pinata? Did they ever explain that? Sucks about Debbie and Alan. Their A.Tango was one of my favorites of the night. I was surprised that I quite liked Alan as a pro. I would like to see him back again next season (though not at Sasha's expense this time; we can ditch Maks or Gleb.) Jordan had samba rolls people. This season just got real.
  9. Yes and they didn't get called out on the lift by the male troupe members. Val got yelled at for something similar last season. The scoring felt way too high tonight. They did so good last week keeping it in the 5's and 6's and all of a sudden the 8's are flying. Give them room to improve or some will get 8's for the next nine weeks (and complain about it). I'm fine with Mark Ballas Face as long as we don't get Mark Ballas Guppy Face ::shudders:: I think it's probably because she has worked with Derek before and had him teach her dances. That certainly gives her an advantage but doesn't really make her a ringer to me. I don't really see a true ringer this season- there are some that have obviously had some training but no pro dancers or anything. I don't think I've seen Maks truly engaged since...Meryl, probably. I think he does the show because it's a nice paycheck and good publicity for his other ventures (dance studios, tour) but I don't know that he really likes it anymore. I wish he would step aside and let Tony take his spot; Tony at least always looked like he enjoyed being there.
  10. Maks said last week that he didn't want it to be all about the married couple thing during an interview and Erin basically told him they were going to run with it. And I agree, it's already ooold. I actually really liked last week when only one judge spoke (and the other two could say a few words during the scoring). It really kept the focus on the dancers and not the judges and seemed to make the judges much more focused in their critiques (instead of making random noises, flailing, etc.) I don't know what the show has against that poor girl; she's the only ballroom-trained female troupe dancer (other than She Who Mugs A Lot- not looking forward to having Jenna back).
  11. Did the judges seem overly nice tonight to anyone else? I thought Drew in particular was pretty bad (very hoppy) but he got 7s. I liked Vanessa but the gushing about her was over the top. Can I have Frankie Munoz? Like just to carry around in my pocket and make me smile? I actually think TO was low-balled last week for going first and is several points better than Barbara but saying so isn't going to win him any friends. I love Jordan but he needs to be careful, he could get an arrogant/cocky edit very quickly. If he keeps praising Lindsay though he should be fine. Agreed. I liked the idea and was on board with the butterfly theme but going into an actual cocoon for a costume change was a little too literal.
  12. (Terrell is feeling sorry for himself/complaining.) Cheryl: "Boo hoo, let's go." That's why she gets the hard ones folks.
  13. I think women are just way more likely to have some dance (or dance relevant) experience. I'm one of the few females in my friends or family who had never taken any sort of dance class. But I will say there is a big distinction between someone who had 3 years of dance class as a little girl and someone who had danced 10-15 years.
  14. I really don't know if I would say that NFL fans gave Rashad the win. It's been shown over and over again that rabid social-media wielding fan bases can't compete with the casual fan core of the show. The demo on this show tends to be older, conservative and female which lines up perfectly to vote for a hard-working, respectful, good-looking guy who's also not a bad dancer.
  15. Krisite Alley was a runner-up. Maybe they just didn't want to? Chris at least was in the Mr.T segment and the one dance, I think all Erika did was sit on a unicorn.
  16. WHOOO, Go Rashad and Emma! Can someone get Emma some Kleenex?! Not having the rest of the cast around to rush the stage made it super anti-climatic. That was the longest finale ever. That extra half an hour just made it drag. David basically : "I'm sorry, I don't know why I keep hanging in here!" Nope, a few seasons ago Alek went and he got third.
  17. Lindsay killed that freestyle. As a Cubs fans there were lots of little nods to the World Series including David not being able to get over the dugout rail and being carried off the field. Rashad's VW was hot. Like really hot. Whoo. I think Emma's feeling the pressure because she's never had a legitimate contender and doesn't know when she might get another one.
  18. Judges: Nitpick Simone all season. *Simone is eliminated* Judges: "Did I do that?"[/Steve Urkel] (I actually don't have a problem with Simone being eliminated, but I have a problem with the judges acting so fake shocked when they helped create the situation. ) Snerk. And true.
  19. I believe Major gave the cure to Natalie. Ravi had a throw away line about Liv going to the medical supply store "right near your place" but that still doesn't really explain why he didn't just go himself especially as it was over several days.
  20. It's been raining for four straight days here. Not everything is a conspiracy. I blame this on Val. He always has to talk. Normani seems perfectly nice when she's allowed to speak.
  21. I loved that Sasha didn't miss a beat.
  22. I had to laugh when Carrie Ann said Rashad's dance felt epic. Uh, he was dancing to O Fortuna. If you can't make that feel epic you need to sit down. I surprised myself by liking some of Mandy Moore's critiques. I thought that using fast muscle twitch and relating it to baseball was a great note for David.
  23. I don't dislike Normani at all. She seems to work hard and be perfectly pleasant (when she's allowed to talk). What I don't like is her partner who rarely choreographs enough content and barely let's her get a word in edgewise and the fact that the producers seem to be pulling manipulative shenanigans to advance them when I don't think they need it.
  24. First thing, Lindsay killed that choreography. They got the one theme that really didn't mesh with the dance and yet she managed to make it look sci-fi yet still salsa. Speaking of choreography, Artem was fantastic this season. I'm so sad to see Nancy go, they were both so charming. I understand David still being here because he's fun and you know, Chicago, but who is voting for Bonner? I thought Nick easily out danced him in the dance-off. GO RASHAD! He's my only hope.
