Yes, this, and only because this is a visual media, not real life. To me, how a couple looks together on screen is an element of design that should be considered. He's not only tall, but his head is so much bigger than hers--whereas Jonny/Sherlock's is fairly small. I think this is important for close shots during conversations, as well as romantic shots. I find a big difference in head size distracting. But maybe this is not a consideration when casting? I know Americans are very conditioned to thinking a taller woman should not be paired with a shorter man, and that is reflected on screen in general, but here I'm just looking at how the physical elements balance. Maybe if Mycroft was supposed to have superpowers it wouldn't bother me as much--but I can't picture him in tights and a cape either. So it makes me wonder if they purposely cast Mycroft to be visually discordant when seen with Joan so viewers would be satisfied if/when it turns out they are not going to live happily ever after together. Also, they seem to emphasize how much taller he is in the street shots, rather than having her stand on something to even things out, as has been done on other shows and movies with a diminutive female actress.

I had to work Sunday night and am off today, so just arriving to the discussion now. Alicia: Who am I being faithful to? Me: Your kids? I didn't date when my kids were her kids' ages, and I'm not sure if that was my real reason or my excuse, but that was my reaction to Alicia's question. I can so see Eli coming to the conclusion: Screw Peter. This guy is the definition of grace under pressure. But we don't know anything about Finn's wife, do we?The title of the episode was a nice double--or even triple--entendre. I've always heard it called "the hidden web," but that wouldn't have worked as the double meaning. I wonder what Chekhov's Day Off will actually be. Maybe Cary is merging FA with Elsbeth Tascioni and Rayna Hecht? Too much to hope for?

I find Joan and Mycroft to be visually mismatched, while she and Sherlock look as if they would fit together. I've assumed this was deliberate casting. So I am kind of repulsed at the depiction of Joan and Mycroft as lovers. Can they be going for that reaction? Or am I way off base and they just chose Rhys Ifans more for his ability to do an accent and speech pattern that sound like Sherlock's? I'm used to seeing the actress who played Mrs. West as an untrustworthy evil doer, so I kept thinking this character was going to be evil too.

I liked the way the proposal was handled. I even teared up. Anyone else? No? -
So is this why the show is named "Believe"? I've been wondering.

Were you thinking two-headed horses or unicorns? And if they were two-headed, would it be like the creepy deer they keep reminding us of every week, or would it be like Dr. Doolittle's pushmi-pullyu?

catrox14, once you have fallen under his spell, resistance to the Barrowman charm is futile.

So Malcolm didn't get shot by Thea? Huh. Anyway, I will always love the first incarnation of Captain Jack Harkness on Dr. Who, so I'm always glad to see John Barrowman too. And Sebastian Blood is really dead dead, right?

Yeah, when Octavia and Lincoln kissed, I actually said out loud to the empty room: So. Not cousins. Anyway, are they trying to portray a sort of survivalist-estrogen mentality of: Me Jane. You Tarzan. We hook up now and make babies to protect the species 'cause that's what my ovaries want me to do.--Or is this just the CW way--which is pretty much the same thing?

Actually, Steve said his frat was not a party frat--that all they did was have book club and...what was the other wholesome thing? I noticed because my youngest daughter joined a service sorority that raised money for charity and tutored struggling students, but her sisters kept insisting that was just a cover story for partying. So I was glad Jinxsy's frat was not a party frat. BTW, youngest daughter now works in social service and does additional literacy volunteering.I don't mind the end-of-series OTPing. I don't love it either. They just better muster up some chemistry between the two of them if that's the endgame, 'cause I'm not seeing it yet. ETA: The enchanted telenovela artifact scenario was very original and fun, but it got a little boring after a bit. It could have been a shorter segment. But I guess they were employing the classic storytelling and comedy device of repetition. You know, like Goldilocks and the Three Bears: First the chairs, then the porridge, then the beds. I did like the cufflinks device too.

I recognized the first cicada husk in the opening scene in the dark, in spite of the fact that I watched a poor resolution recording on a small screen while getting lunch (I had to work Sunday night) with poor eyesight. We had cicadas here a few years ago, and, trust me, you will never forget that. I mean swarms--not like in some nearby neighborhoods where the soil had been disturbed for major changes in the last 17 years since the eggs were laid. So kudos for plot consistency that the town hadn't changed much since Jacob had left. I was complaining about that here, but this episode, between the cicadas and the line to the military guy about it being a town from another era, I forgive the ability of Jacob to direct Agent Belamy to his house--it fits together now.I remember at the time that the cicadas swarmed here that it was such a spiritual experience that I thought it would make a great metaphor for a novel or a movie plot, if done right. But the problem with the cicada metaphor is that it is not universally experienced. Anyway, in spite of all that, until I came here I totally missed the metaphor of the cicadas to this story. --which I guess more than proves my point that it's a tricky metaphor to use. I mean, cicadas are not as common as, say, Santa Claus. CocoaGoddess, I wasn't sure Bellamy was going to be related to the Black family until they said that their son had a crescent birthmark on the back of his neck. Did you notice after that how they kept showing shots of the back of Omar Epps' neck without any birthmark reveal (until the last shot)? As far as whether Bellamy is a first or second generation returned: They didn't say what year the flood took the Black family, did they? I think the dresses could have been second hand from the 60s bought in the 70s. Not likely, but possibly. The bigger issue is that Jacob has consistently identified those who are "like me," and we never heard him say that about Bellamy. I don't think the cicadas turned into helicopters, but there was something weird about that whole scene. They stopped because there seemed to be something in the road. What was it? It looked like a light brown rectangle to me, but then Bellamy stopped to pick up the cicada husk, which was, coincidentally, the same color.

Or, sort of a corollary to DropTheSoap's musings: She believed they discovered a cure, and also found about the clone program, and overheard that if they tried the cure, it would skew their clone experiment results. They could have paid him off to impregnate her and then stay out of the picture. Maybe he has some rare blood type that is conducive to clone fertilizing. Heh. If so, the cult guys would want to borrow him. -
Well, on TWoP boards, someone dubbed him Little Prince Snowflake. I'm guessing Neal. Dr. Hopper should counsel Belle on emotionally battered wife syndrome, or I-married-a-sociopath syndrome, or whatever it's called. Not that she would listen.

Does anyone recall which episode Daniel is injured on another planet (near death, of course) and is nursed back to health by a married red haired woman?

If it's not one thing, it's 10 with these people. The Tomorrow People: Taking the Science Out of Science Fiction One Episode at a Time. So John doesn't remember Cara or Astrid. Why is this vaguely amusing?
-
Right. Even so, I still think it could go either way with this show. lol And so it did. Oy. The Tomorrow People: Taking the Science Out of Science Fiction One Episode at a Time.

Generally in crime shows it's done with a more mature adult, but it's usually part of a plea deal: Go undercover and you won't rot in jail. I'm guessing they deliberately wrote it as a his young daughter, rather than, say, his 30ish younger brother or cousin, because they wanted to show that the law enforcement powers are growing ruthless.

I considered that for a moment, but decided it would be too hard to explain--unless there was another landing party that we don't know about. Plus, he's not quite father age for her. That's why I suggested above that they are cousins who share the same female ancestor, who looks a lot like her, and whose picture he has seen.

It was definitely a pickup. I actually went back to watch it because I thought it was the truck Sarah & Co. ditched before they went to Cal's, but it was a different color. I thought it might be Cal, but I could see it being Mrs. S too. I'm not sure it would be Art because he's busy with the Creepy-Ass Big Love Ranch . . . .unless it turns out CABLR is in the same area.Does Art have a truck? I was thinking it was Art To The Rescue *cue Lone Ranger or other appropriate music.*Probably overthinking here: Maybe Helena got a jealous vibe from Grace, and that's why she offered her the drumstick. -
About the episode title: Shouldn't it have been "My Fair Grimm"? Or are Grimms wessen? And is it Grimms for the plural or just Grimm, like deer? And should wessen be capitalized when not part of a title? Okay. I'll stop now, and go back to work, where I'm checking title pages of theses today.

Right. I thought the electron microscope (or whatever they use these days) view of the TP DNA with the tracker bonded to it simply revealed to Jedekiah which chromosomes made the TP different from humans, which enabled Jedekiah to alter his own DNA, and he merely knocked out Irene so she wouldn't bug him about other stuff, like, ya know, stopping Flounder's kill switch in the TPs who were stupid enough to get the trackers in the first place.DNA is in every cell of a person, so I don't see how Jedekiah could take away Irene's powers even if he did use some of her DNA to alter his own.

That crossed my mind too. I rolled my eyes at another example of how out of touch with reality most concepts of money are on TV. 10 grand and a car would pretty much wipe out my retirement savings, and for the 30-somethings I work with, it would mean huge credit card debt to pay the rent, and we all have masters degrees. Why did they make it a ridiculously huge amount? I guess to show he's a Daddy Warbucks. And now he's a Daddy Warbucks with chickens that need looking after and a dead cop in his front yard, and, according to his last convo with his cop buddy, he's growing pot in the backyard. -

As much as I love this show and believe it could do no wrong, Felix having never heard of Cal before feels a tad shark jumpy. And I agree, Sarah, an experienced con artist, should not have used Kira's real name, or even her known nickname (Monkey) in the store. Kira should have had a baseball cap covering her hair and been called Davy or something. But they were all tired, hungry, and desperate, so I can forgive this. I really hope it's not the case but I thought they were making it pretty clear that it was. If they go there, the follow-up should be Helena going Lorena Bobbitt on him. They keep showing the younger guy even more creepily eyeing her, so hopefully she ends him and his genetic line too. I'm really not a violent person, and would probably cover my eyes if these scenes occur, but after everything Helena's been through, and given how inhuman the cult is, it seems like an appropriate end for them. Pretty ironic that Grace referred to Helena as "barely human." -

For me, this show gets better and better. I'm hoping that opportunity is just around the corner. Nothing was "consumated" yet, right? Meh. He missed a chance at a head shot to the cylon when Sarah got in the car and he was outside it. Plus, did y'all catch what line of work he was in previously? Not just drone tech, but if I heard correctly, the tech was for artificial bee genetics or pollinating or something. Thuganomics, I'd say Tatiana's Matt Frewer impersonation was spot on. -
Thank you. Not as good as a TWoP-length recap, but I'll take it.
