  1. Also, Tiago. Hahahahaha! Of course Rogelio/Tiago would make the women's rights movement all about him!
  2. I'm glad we got Alba's backstory on the whole virginity thing, and that she said she wouldn't judge Jane, but I'm also glad Jane didn't go through with it with Prof Chavez. He's still a professor in her department, even if he isn't her adviser any more! And also, she really doesn't want something casual. When Michael ran into the hospital, I was so afraid he was going to get shot. I immediately thought that the woman there might have been someone else who was given Rose's face and trained in what to say to Luisa. I was a little disappointed that Luisa didn't leap off the bed and knock Rose out when Rose was taking Susanna. I love Jane and Petra together. All the background and values clash of Jane and Rafael, with none of the romantic angst, and more comedy. Plus the matter-of-fact "moms; what can you do?" acceptance of Petra's having cancelled lunch because her mother murdered someone.
  3. I absolutely loved this episode. I care approximately zero about Jane's love life, but I find all the little details delightful. Examples: 1. Mateo's face when Rogelio asked what happened to the diamond. I wonder how long they had to keep a camera on that kid to get all the perfect reaction shots. 2. The car gps/backup guidance system voice talking Jane through getting away from Prof. She was hilarious! 3. Rafael flashbacks to sleazedom. He was such a creep! And yet hot. Usually creepiness kills any degree of hotness to me. 4. All Jane's thoroughly uncomfortable moments with the professor. I don't know why she thought she should feel out the situation, nor why Xo was encouraging her. Jane, honey, a professor who hits on his student or allows himself to be hit on is not a catch; he's a creep. Doesn't matter if he isn't her advisor anymore, she's still a student and it's a no. If it's meant to be, it will wait a year or two until she finishes the program, and if it's only fling material, why risk your career over it? I know student-teacher relationships are pretty common in the real world, but they are still UGH and someone like Jane should be aware of how UGH they are. 5. Loved the visit to Rogelio's set. I still wish we'd see more of the show he's filming. Maybe it isn't airing yet, and when it does we'll get bits of the family gathered around the television to watch. 6. Rogelio's tweets that Jane's phone was reading to her in the car. Also I loved the shirt Jane was wearing at the beginning, with the blue embroidery.
  4. I missed that part; thanks. I should know better than to multitask during JtV. Look away for five seconds and you could miss major information!
  5. I thought we had learned at some point that Rafael's view of Petra had shifted pretty abruptly while he was undergoing cancer treatment, but we didn't learn what had happened. I thought he had found out something about her. Maybe another affair? Something else from her past? Discovered she was only hanging in there with him for money? Does having had one miscarriage before really count as fertility issues? Tragic for her, yes, but did she have any sort of medically diagnosed reason to believe she'd have trouble with a future pregnancy? I can understand why she's afraid, but that's not the same thing as actually having infertility. I want to see more of Rogelio's new telenovela.
  6. I really enjoyed this episode, starting right from the narrator's cheerleader-esque "Ready? Okay!" He is always hilarious. Jane's class shenanigans were a little odd, but I guess not completely outside the realm of possibility. I was a TA as a master's student, and graded papers on my own and sometimes had to give the lecture. This was under the direction of a professor, though. However, I have definitely heard stories about schools that, like, really, really value their sports teams, to the extent of letting them get away with anything and everything and specifically setting them up to skirt the normal rules of academic conduct, soooooo...I can almost give that a pass. This class seemed to have been set up by athlete-worshiping administrators specifically to give the jocks an easy passing grade...so why have an actual professor teach it? Hand it off to a grad student who's so eager for the income that she'll go along with the program. The only part that isn't believable to me is that Jane wouldn't immediately report the plagiarism. She didn't know what a joke this class is supposed to be. I liked Jane playing basketball, but I think she should be taking notes on all the nonsense going on at this school to write an expose or a thinly veiled novel. And no way should she date McBaskets. She doesn't need a relationship with a lazy entitled irresponsible dumbass who is also her student. Although she should certainly consider other options. Poor Rafael. The best relationships he's ever had in his life seem to be with the mothers of his babies...one of whom cheated on him and used his sperm without his permission, the other of whom has to always be right and has little use for him (not that he didn't earn some of her distrust). All his parental figures are criminals, his sister made a mess of his business and his personal life, his best friend had an affair with his wife. His entire life is always so shaky. What excellent preparation to help Petra with her similar problems. Now if he could just get HIS mother carted off to prison. Baby issues plots don't interest me much, but I did find the sports coverage of it entertaining. Also, Alba and Xiomara are way too involved. Why did they all need to be up? Pop in some earplugs and go back to sleep. Let Jane deal with it as she sees fit. Alba's need to prove Jane wrong doesn't seem like a great way to help Jane develop her own parenting skills.
  7. Hey, she has a really bangin' face and figure for a middle-aged mom/youngish grandma. But seriously, why is she styled so OLD? Even in those dark days of fashion, young people didn't want to look like their grandmothers.
  8. No, they have different mothers. Rafael's mother was paid to abandon him when he was little; he reconnected with her in season 1 but didn't much care for her, mostly due to her willingness to walk away from her child. Luisa's mother was thought to have died. They have mentioned having an unspecified number of stepmothers, so there may have been more before Rose.
  9. I wonder if Nadine is really dead, or if they faked her death to free her from Sin Rostro. Maybe Michael's fight with Rafael was an excessive reaction because it was a combination of being peeved at snitchiness (even though it didn actually get him fired), a long-festering dislike of Rafael, and a little overacting and melodrama in his effort to make sure word got around that he'd been fired. I really liked this episode. I thought it was very funny, aside from the tedium of yet another breakup for Jane. I wish she would actually stick with being single for awhile. Clearly she doesn't and shouldn't trust either of these guys. My favorite parts were Rogelio pitching Hombres Locos to the bigwig, and Rogelio's lifeless reading of the Ranchero part and explaining he'd made the acting choice to play the character with Lyme disease. I have chronic lyme disease, and that cracked me up. I wish my listlessness were half as funny as his.
  10. I like Rafael, and I think he's often funny. I don't agree that the acting is bad, either...to me, it is a good portrayal of a more introverted, tense guy who has very little experience with healthy loving relationships, tries to appear polished and in charge but is actually unsure and insecure, and often doesn't know what to do and has a lot on his mind. He seems very real to me. I don't necessarily want him in a romantic relationship with Jane and I think he should stop being so pushy about it, but I also understand his desperate longing for a loving family that is leading him to be rather unreasonable about it. Does Rafael have any friends, now that Zaz is gone? He needs some friends. Real friends, not the club scenesters. A relationship like Michael has with Rogelio would do him a lot of good. My favorite relationships are Rogelio's, with everyone else. Even with Britney. And his dear friends Oprah Winfrey and Gloria Estefan. I think Rogelio and Petra should interact more. That seems like grand comedy.
  11. I don't think it's odd that Petra's pregnancy is showing so much, especially if she's having twins. She's so slim, those babies have no place to go but out, even while they are tiny. I have a friend who had only one baby who already looked pregnant at two months along; she's very petite and some people just expand more, I guess. I really want to see Hombres Locos, Rogelio, please make that happen! I've missed seeing bits of The Passions of Santos. Plus, there are so many guapo telenovela actors who surely have a little free time between their main projects to make hilarious cameo appearances in a show within the show here.
  12. Of course Petra managed to get pregnant. We need maximum drama. Know what would be even MORE dramatic? If Scott swapped out the sperm for his own nefarious reasons. Maybe Petra's baby will have some other biodad, and the paternity will be used to manipulate her somehow, and meanwhile Raf's last sample is miraculously preserved for another day. Michael is definitely being a better partner to Jane, but Rafael hasn't had a fair chance at all. He is SWAMPED with massive distractions and problems. Poor guy. I want him to end up with a nice stable happy family life, even if it's with someone other than Jane and with shared custody of Mateo and maybe Petra's baby. He can't seem to catch a break. I'm glad we saw Lina at the baptism. I hate it when shows forget that their main characters once had other friends ahemMindyProjectahem. I think the only way a sex tape would embarass Rogelio is if he suffered erectile dysfunction or something. My guess is that it shows bad acting or him with a zit or something.
  13. I don't think those plotlines have been dropped, though. I think they've set up a lot of leads for things that will pop up again later. And there are some that have the potential to be major plot arcs, perhaps for season 2. For example, Rafael's mother. Why did she leave? Where is she? What is she doing? There could be a big story and a lot of drama there. And I'm sure we'll come back around to what is happening with Luisa and Rose. Even some of the minor past characters could return as major plots. Betty, for example. Why hasn't she spoken in 12 years? The likely answer would be some kind of serious trauma. In a show like this, that could easily tie in to the lives of the other characters. I love the Villanueva family, but they do all share the very annoying trait of expecting everyone to get in line with THEIR priorities and THEIR way of thinking and doing things. Yes, Rafael is the father of the baby and he should be a present father, but the baby hasn't been born yet and he has heaps of other crises happening at the moment. Maybe he'd like to focus on solving those problems now so things will be calmer by the time the baby arrives? I mean, all that baby stuff shopping isn't necessary. You only really need a few things; everything else it's probably better to wait and see what you're really going to want and buy as you go anyway. I know it isn't really about the tasks and errands and more about the fact that Jane is anxious about having a baby, but maybe she should spend less time trying to rope him into timewasting tasks and more time actually talking about how they want their baby to be raised, without instantly condemning everything that is familiar to Rafael. Yeah, he didn't have the best childhood, but that is the perspective he comes from so a more thoughtful discussion of why things should be different for their child might work better than automatic rejection of everything he thinks is normal just because it isn't Jane's normal.
  14. I hope in the next few episodes we see more of the characters who have been on the back burner, like Rose and Luisa, and Michael's sketchy brother and Jane's waitress friend who was dating him.
  15. For me, it's still just as delightful as the first episode. But then I am always more into the nuances and little jokes and character development and side plots than the Big Dramatic Suspenseful Plot Arc. Rafael was a mean drunk and a huge jerk this episode, not to mention a stupid business manager. I've always been a Rafael fan, though I don't necessarily favor him over Michael as a partner for Jane. They both have their pluses and minuses. But I do like that they aren't letting him be too saintly. It does seem to me that he is being set up as more the hero, just because he has more problems and flaws to overcome. Michael needs a few more challenges. He isn't getting the same kind of character development. What does he do other than pine for Jane and work at his job (at which he is fairly competent)? And hang around with Rogelio, which I LOVE, but he needs more. His brother was a thorn in his side...where's he these days? As much as I hated Rafael's behavior, I did sympathize with him a lot. I know what it's like to have things in your personal life that you should be spending more time on, but at the same time things are going all to hell at work and you feel like if you aren't dealing with that every waking hour, you'll lose your job/business and then where will you and your loved ones be? But Rafael really needs to hire more competent employees so he can delegate more...or just not step in anyway because clearly he has bad judgment. And I don't even mean going ahead with the party without the permit. As was the theme in a previous episode, he needs to look further back to find the source of his problem. Why the hades did he want to bring in the college spring break crowd anyway? That's got to be about the worst clientele for a posh hotel. Most of them underage = huge liability, plus as an aggregate mass that crowd is neither exactly the most respectful of property nor will they spend per person what a more mature clientele would. Although I guess when your clientele tends to include murderers and murderees, perhaps you get less picky. But I still think he would have done better to advertise as the place for older richer people to get AWAY from the spring breakers. I love Rogelio's new house and I want to live there. Preferably with Rogelio there to amuse me. He never ceases to be a hoot. "I need to make love to you in a place that doesn't feel like a convent." I'm looking forward to his mother's visit, but don't understand why she hadn't come earlier if she and Rogelio are close. Why wasn't she on the first plane to meet the granddaughter she'd never known she had? Loved Michael using his detective skills on Rogelio's love life. I like Andi so far, but knowing that Michael and Jane dated and not letting Jane know that her ex is the same guy seems really shady. Also, I don't really understand why anyone would want to get back with an ex. If you already broke up once, there was a reason for it. Why revisit a relationship you already know didn't have enough going for it? Also, I guessed right MONTHS AGO that Aaron would really be Roman! I almost never guess plot twists correctly so I must revel in it. Although maybe it will turn out that BOTH of them were really Aaron, for strange twisty reasons. But Roman was really putting way too much effort into the whole peaceful calm nonviolence soothing voice thing to be believable as someone who as been a Jain for many years, plus he knew too much about Petra, so it wasn't that hard to guess. I imagine a real Jain would be comfortable with his worldview and not try so hard for the image.
  16. I cannot wait to find out what excuse Lemon's and Magnolia's mother has for completely cutting off contact with her daughters for so long. It had better be a whopper. I can't imagine what would be believable...I mean maybe if she'd been shooting heroin in a gutter or locked in a mental institution all this time, you'd be like, "okay, understandable", but she's been living a short distance away, apparently totally functional and happy with her new family. So why couldn't she have told Lemon and Magnolia where she was and had them over for visits? She is the worst, and it will take a major twist to convince me otherwise. Like Brick said, it's one thing if she wanted to leave him, but you do not abandon your children. I loved how what won the other mayor over was that Lavon knows Don Todd. Also loved Wade recognizing his old self in that oily sleazebag rodeo guy and hating it. And most especially loved Crickett's rocket pop dress. Zoe's dress was also excellent and comfy-looking.
  17. It could have been any random VIP guest who Rafael, as the hotel manager, was visiting for some reason, and who asked him to put out the sign on his way out. Do Not Disturb signs are sacred. I even have one on my bedroom door at home. Even though I live alone. Just in case :).
  18. How many people even have a favorite song? I have like a hundred favorite songs and they change all the time. It would be about the least important thing for a potential partner to know about me. I know it was just the thing that triggered Jane realizing how little she knows Rafael, not an important item in and of itself. But I agree with the commenter above who said that knowing you can listen to and respect each other and talk about things maturely is more important than knowing random facts about each other. I think some couples are together for years and know many many things about each other but never get to that level of functionality that Jane and Rafael have already. That plus the fact that they are having a baby and will be connected regardless makes it reasonable to me that their relationship has a level of commitment and seriousness beyond what would be normal for the length of time they have been together. Pretty much. Everything conspires against them. If there aren't enough outside forces trying to keep them apart, their own stupidity and dysfunction will do the trick for awhile.
  19. I have no problem with them having a shower to celebrate and getting gifts. I just think asking for money is tacky. And as a guest, I HATE being told what to buy for people. So what if they get two of the same thing? If they can't use both, they can exchange one. I think the point of baby showers is to be able to go buy something ridiculously cute. I also hate hate hate it when hotel employees ignore the Do Not Disturb sign. I put it there because I don't want you to wake me up!!! Not to ask if I am sure I don't need anything! Not to offer me towels! For no reason unless I am in danger of imminent death! Do. Not. Disturb.
  20. I don't understand why Rafael and Jane were registering for baby gifts. They are loaded. Well, Rafael is loaded and Jane does okay, and surely between them they can come up with all the baby stuff they need. And are they really going to let Lina tell people to give them cash? Tacky. Since they don't actually need anything, the baby shower guests should just get to pick out cute frivolous baby clothes and kids' books to give them. I can't imagine going to a baby shower for wealthy parents and handing over money. I know they needed to product-place Target but couldn't they just have gone shopping for baby stuff?
  21. I'm surprised Luisa didn't stay and try to turn the hotel into an ashram. Maybe that's coming? She must really love Rose...or really want revenge. Or perhaps she is afraid of Rose and wants to hide from her?
  22. I find Rafael endlessly entertaining, even when I think he's being an idiot. That's why they put him in so many scenes; all for ME :). But Rafael, maybe the reason Jane doesn't trust you is that you keep secrets from her and she keeps catching you in things that seem shady. Maybe? Have you considered that? Maybe she would trust you more if you let her in on what was happening before she had to wonder about it. I did like that she told him that trust takes time and they barely know each other, and that he accepted that. It's nice to have a telenovela in which they don't break up over every little spat and can deal with their issues maturely. Petra is such a great complex character. I both like her and hate her at the same time. She can't just collect the money from her 1/3 of the shares and go about her life of leisure as before, no, she has to make Rafael's life miserable. I still want to know why Rafael's feelings for her suddenly changed during his cancer treatment. But on the plus side, I loved her shoes when she made her grand return to the hotel.
  23. Interesting that Rafael's favorite song is about the desperation of poverty. I wonder what that means. Is he in fact afraid of not having money? Does he secretly yearn for a life in which his challenges are more simple and fundamental? Or does he just like the tune? It doesn't seem meaningless in an episode where Luisa is accusing him of being all about the money. Even though he risked his shares to insure her, and only didn't lose them because Jane decided to drop the suit. Luisa is such an ingrate. I absolutely loved Jane seeing things through the telenovela lens, including how the clothes turned purple. Zaz 2.0 version "Aaron" said his brother had told him so much about Petra...but supposedly los hermanos Zazo hadn't been in contact in years. Either that is Roman, or something else is going on...like either the brothers were closer than reported or he is helping Rafael by manipulating Petra.
  24. I didn't understand why they thought there was no room in either of their places. Zoe's room is not huge, but could be made to work with some rearranging. Plus you can tell from the exterior that there is more space inside the carriage house that could be used (which is what they are now planning to do, although I thought there was more space on the lower level as well. Maybe it is actually a garage or something?). And the building Wade lives in seems pretty roomy. It's a studio, not separate bedrooms, but there is plenty of space for a crib and another dresser with a changing pad on top. Either of their porches could hold a stroller. I don't know how much space they think a baby needs. Not to mention, their places are pretty close to each other, so they wouldn't even have to choose. They could use one as living space and the other for sleeping. But I love renovation and redecorating so I'm excited to see the attic.
  25. SO MUCH ORANGE. I thought it was just a glowy overly warm lighting choice, but then in a few scenes, I noticed that Wade was a completely normal color while the people right next to him were Cheese Flavie orange. So it isn't hitting everyone equally. AB and George were cute together, mostly because both actors are great and they were selling the hell out of it, but it still seems odd. Why didn't AB tell George she wanted to sell the houseboat and give him first dibs on buying it? Can he not afford it? He seems to do okay. If I had access to Lavon's house and pastry-filled kitchen I would never leave. I loved Zoe's marveling about the magic kitchen. "Where do they come from?" I've been wondering that all along! Either Lavon gets up early every day to hit the grocery and bakery, or he has a really excellent housekeeper or delivery service. Or maybe it's just magic!
