Curb Your Enthusiasm - General Discussion
jww replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Curb Your Enthusiasm
In reality none of the character testimony would have been allowed and Larry would have been informed of all the state's witnesses through discovery. -
Just how big is the University? Only 5/7 professors in the English Department? My high school (3,000 enrollment) had about 17 teachers in the English Department. MIT is the most selective university in the country; I doubt they would have any interest in a President from an open enrollment / podunk/backwater state university who sole claim to fame was firing tenured professors.
-
I think my jr. high had more English teachers than this state university. I doubt the pod company would just drop it without someone signing for delivery, if they were told to move it and didn't it would be trespassing.

If a company promotes a worker to "supervisor"/"assistant manager" as a way to get around paying overtime, the workers duties have to actually match his job title. Supervisors supervise and according to federal labor law cannot spend the majority of their time doing the same work of those who they supervise. They also have to have managerial duties such as hiring/firing workers. In this case it is hard to be a supervisor with no workers to supervise. If it were not for this law a restaurant could make all their workers Assistant Manager of French Fries... and work them 60 hours and not pay overtime.

The problem with that is a community colleges typically only offer lower division courses and an Associate Degree. He would have had to be enrolled in a 4 year college to have received a BS/BA. Besides he told the skateboarders he used the slip and fall money to go to bartending school.

In episode 1 Jimmy is explaining to the skateboarders how he got the name Slippin Jimmy and how everyone knew him by that name. If that was the case how could he pull off the scam repeated times when it was well known what he was doing?

Rotting in a super-max prison for the rest of his life proves his humanity how-does Jimmy believe he deserves the punishment? It is like a 10 year old boy telling his father he needs a 3x paddling. The Shield had a better ending-Vic got a total amnesty deal for all crimes he had committed as long as he confessed to them. Once the deal was signed he detailed all the murders/drug deals he committed much to the dismay of the DA who had no idea of just how evil he was. Vic round up assigned to a police desk job which he hated but at least it was not Pelican Bay prison.

There is a page at: U.S. Penitentiary Administrative Maximum—ADX Supermax (thoughtco.com) describing it as: The all-male prison population at ADX Supermax includes inmates who experienced chronic disciplinary problems while at other prisons, those who have killed other prisoners and prison guards, gang leaders, high-profile criminals, and organized crime mobsters. It also houses criminals who could pose a threat to national security including Al-Qaeda and U.S. terrorist and spies. The harsh conditions at ADX Supermax have earned it a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as being one of the most secure prisons in the world. From the prison design to the daily operations, ADX Supermax strives for complete control over all prisoners at all times. So I doubt they would allow a walk-in visitor without having been screened first and on an approved list.

One of the results of the scam against Howards was Sandpiper withdrew their counter offers and HHM/Davis had to accept their day one original offer so the senior citizens suffered the most since they likely got little. Just rewatched episode 1, season 1 and Jimmy is telling the skateboarders he used the money from his slip/fall scams to pay for bartending school. So it is reasonable to conclude Jimmy never went to college (other than online law school) and may at most have a GED. Jimmy/Saul likely is no more likely able to engage in conversation than Kim's current boyfriend. In episode 1 Jimmy loses the case where he is defending three 19 year olds who vandalized a school biology lab and loses. Has he ever been shown winning a case? He flunked the bar exam 5 times. He is often shown fast talking a mousey DA into plea deals but I doubt he is no more capable of writing Federal Court appeals than the average inmate. Remember in BB he was comic relief like Barry Zuckerkorn (Henry Winkler) in Arrrested Development. Walt seldom/never took his advice.

They eliminated parole in the Federal prisons in 1987. Goodtime is limited to 15% of a person's sentence. So, if Jimmy/Saul had accepted the original 30 year offer he could have gotten out in 25 years. The problem is if he was 50 then he would be 75 when released and what then-no family/friends, MAYBE eligible for a minimum Social Security check. Good luck finding a room to rent. In prison has a bed/3 meals/friends.

The US has an extradition Belize. Maybe Jimmy could wind up in Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua which don't.

So, saying Jews are better lawyers is anti-Semitic because most Americans claim to hate lawyers who are viewed as dishonest, greedy and engaging in excessive legalism which are stereotypes often attributed to Jews? Actually, into the 1970s the major law firms would not hire Jews and often Jewish lawyers would have to accept clients the prestigious law firms would not accept-Saul's clients. About 20% of US lawyers are Jewish, while Jewish make up .2% of US population.

Slipping Jimmy is from his scamming days in Chicago. Someone who is slippery cannot be trusted: He's as slippery as an eel - you can never get a straight answer out of him. He's a slippery customer (= person), and I've never felt comfortable with him. (of a person) evasive and unpredictable; not to be relied on. ‘Martin's a slippery customer’

If I remember at first Saul Goodman was only a DBA, did Jimmy actually go through with a formal name change.?

"Halfwit" then there are a lot of halfwits in the US. 70% of Americans cannot locate France/UK on a map. I doubt 10% could locate Sweden/Switzerland. 45 confused the Baltic and Balkins. The Amazing Race was actually superior to 75% of OTA programing.
