Women of color spend millions upon millions of dollars on hair products. For years, hair has been a hot-button topic among African-American women. Many African American women feel they have been judged solely on their hair. There are women who will tell you that they have been denied advancements in their careers because of their hair, or judged because they wear locks. African American women feel they have to spend billions of dollars on relaxers, wigs, extensions and other products that will make their hair culturally acceptable to mainstream America's ideal of beauty. Guiliana Rancic should have been aware that hair is a sensitive topic among women of color.

Guiliana blurted out her remark as casually as though she was sitting around the kitchen table talking to a couple of girlfriends. She spoke exactly as she thought, and yes it was racist in my opinion. Kelly Osbourne instantly felt the racial slap, it was visible in her face. I'm really tired of everyone and the 'social and political correctness' because it gets silly and out of hand. I do believe that high profile people seen by millions should have some filters and stereotyping anyone because they wear dreadlocks and equates wearing dreadlocks with smoking weed is absolutely wrong. Guiliana wants to be entertaining and Fashion Police gives her the right to speak her mind in the same way Joan Rivers did. But sorry, I never liked Joan Rivers because she was mean and nasty. For some reason, Joan Rivers felt entitled to cast disparaging and hurtful remarks onto anyone she felt like just to get a cheap laugh. I disliked her for exactly that, her feeling of entitlement. I'm old so I remember Joan in her earlier days when she was a struggling comic and her jokes were funny because they weren't hurtful to any particular individual. Over the years I started turning her off if she was on TV, she got nastier and dirtier. So, okay I'm not a fan of Joan Rivers and Guiliana Rancic shouldn't try to fill her shoes by throwing racially charged comments. Any topic of conversation is okay in my book no matter how controversial, but when it begins to denigrate specific cultures or races and puts them down as being less important then I have to say 'enough!'. Oh sure, if it was Joan Rivers that made this comment nobody would be making a big fuss because the public 'loved' Joan and forgave all her transgressions because she was a comic. I never really liked Guiliana Rancic either, she's just too difficult visually to watch and she's not a comedienne. I never watch Fashion Police and only knew about this hullabaloo because of the press. I have always found it scripted in order to allow Joan Rivers to insert her 'ad libs' and 'amusing jokes' which in my opinion were well planned out and not spontaneous in the least. The number #1 commandment of TV for NON-COMICS should be, "I shall not intentionally make a mockery of another human because of their race, religion, or ethnicity".

SWORDQUEEN you said exactly what I felt when I watched Kim and LisaR go head-to-head inside the private jet. Kim is like one of those plastic storage bags that you put all your summer stuff in to store away, you stick your vacuum hose in the opening and it sucks all the air out of the bag and it turns into a small squashed heap of stuff you can shove under the bed. Kim leaves me with that feeling all the time, every single episode. She's sucking the life out of the show and I wish I could just shove her under the bed and not take her out until next summer. Kim.. shoo shoo -

Am I expecting too much to hope that one day mature affluent women will cease and desist the 'high-five'? I mean, it looks awkward at times and isn't the high-five or knuckle pump something that we could expect from guys in the NFL or Little League? I have an idea, how about using real words like 'very nice!' or 'that's great!' or even 'good job!' Ladies... Stop, please, just stop before you embarrass yourselves like these two did on TV Even Steven Tyler gets messed up, here's the combination high-five and knuckle bump, I call it the 'mid-way ficklenump'. Now if it was LisaV messing it up, then it would be the 'low vanderpumppump' -

First let me say that I don't like any of these women, not one. I only have lesser degrees of dislike for each of them. I'd have to say that I dislike Eileen the least, then Yolanda. That doesn't mean I like her, it means she's the type of person that I'd be able to tolerate for a short time. They're all so needy for attention that it makes them look old, sad and desperate. I like women that are self-confident without being arrogant, assertive without being bossy, have a high self-esteem without being narcissistic.Yolanda is the only one that I see all these traits in. Kim and Kyle are both messed up emotionally. They're needy, they need constant admiration and attention. I hate that. They've lived in two state of minds since childhood one being a supportive sister to the other, and the other being competitors for attention. One turned to drugs and alcohol and one was lucky enough to get a husband that provides the high maintenance she requires. I'm not really digging LisaR lately. I watched her choosing clothes for her trip with her daughter sitting on the bed giving her input on the selections (yeah as if that would happen). Lisa seems to be going through a bunch of clothes hanging from a clothes pole that appears to be right in back of a bed. (Isn't there a closet in that room?) Anyway, she picked up a black raincoat and her daughter says "oh I didn't know you had that, I'm gonna steal that" and Lisa says "it's from Target" to which her daughter replies with a half smile "oh". Lisa quickly says 'no' and puts that rag back on the bargain rack. For a split second I thought how really great it would be if LisaR wanted to really prove to us how 'down to earth' and 'just like us' she is by taking that Target raincoat and wearing it in Holland while the others were dressed in Galliano, Georgio Armani or Versace. I'd be her fan for life if she ever did something like that. Okay, I still have a child's imagination, that ain't happenin'. I liked Brandi's depiction of how Lisa V would smoke a joint, that was hilarious. All the back and forth about 'oh I'll smoke' and 'oh no not me' was a bit silly to me. Alcohol is a legal drug and none of the women have any problem drinking wine any time after 12:00 noon. Pot is a drug but in Holland it's a legal for anyone to use. I must say that if Kim really has been sober for 3 years as she claims then she gets kudos from me for being able to stay sober being around these women that drink some kind of alcohol every time they're together and for resisting the heavy duty opiates that Monty is taking. It's like a diabetic being forced to work in a Lindt chocolate factory. I wish they hadn't broken up this episode by having the scavenger hunt in half of the episode then the Holland journey at the back end. When the women are traveling to locations outside of Beverly Hills, I like to sit back and just soak up all the details of the experience. Private jet, luxurious hotel suites, and amazing dinner dresses, how much better does it get for voyeurism? Wow, what a long post, sorry I didn't mean it. -

Kim was a child star. The biggest problem child actors had to deal with was pedophilia. I always wondered if Kim and maybe even Kyle were sexually molested during those years. -
I can't stand listening to her, it's so annoying and she's gotten even worse lately. The joke will be on her in 20 years when she sounds like Joan Rivers and has to get the nodules removed from her vocal chords.

James to Kristen: (in robotic-droning tone while Kristen glares at him with razor-shooting eyeballs) "I fucked up Kristen, and....I love you....and.......you know....you make me so happy, and it's like I know that wasn't us" Kristen to James: "I felt so threatened, that's like why I did what I did and I shouldn't have ever touched you. What I'm so worried about now is that our relationship is so tainted now with that." Now I'm left wondering if I'll ever laugh harder, longer or louder than I have after listening to this baloney. Wait, wait...I think that if I try very very hard that I can put myself back inside my 17 year old brain and maybe then believe all that I've heard. Are we seriously supposed to believe that Kristen and James 'love' each other and want to make things work out for them being together? Nah, no can do, not gonna happen.

Finally, an episode that looks like it's going to be pure fun and not filled with all that ugliness and back-stabbing. I wish there were more like this one. It's refreshing to see a bunch of spoiled rich women working together, forgetting all about their stiletto Louboutin's and just sweating like everyone is supposed to. I agree that Camille looked better than she ever has, but she has a hot young boyfriend and that's good for her. Eileen is still my favorite down-to-earth housewife, "we're gonna beat em to a pulp!". I also noticed that Lisa Vanderpump is knock-kneed. I had noticed it in a previous episode and saw it again in this episode. It's good to know she has some imperfections that can't be fixed by a plastic surgeon. (hee-hee) I'm looking forward to watching the entire episode. First look was just over too quickly. -
Our Little Family - General Discussion
HumblePi replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Our Little Family
This "Meet The Hamills!" episode was the first, and the last episode of this show that I'll watch. Do all people with achondroplasia speak so quickly? Jen Arnold speaks really fast and so does this couple. Michelle and Dan speak rapid fire as well and I suspect that a lot of this is due to some nervousness being on TV. I was a little surprised to see how they let the kids walk behind them in the middle of the street. Maybe there aren't many cars on that street but it sure seems that the kids should be taught that walking in the road can be a dangerous thing to do. Unlike the Arnolds, who are pretty affluent and able to afford a total custom build home with elevator for themselves, the Hamills appear to be more of a moderate income family and have to haul around their stools in the kitchen to reach things. I get that they're wonderful people with big hearts and love their families. Speaking only for myself, I think I've seen enough of the lives and challenges of little people. People are naturally curious about the lives of families like 19 Kids and Counting, Kate Plus 8, Teen Moms and Sister Wives for a reason. People want to see what the unusual, bizarre and weird things are all about and how they live. I'll watch anything once out of curiosity no matter how peculiar or unconventional it is because that's exactly why I give it one try. After that one time, that's enough for me. I wouldn't watch regularly because there's just too many other choices to watch. I don't see this show as being the big hit that TLC thinks it will be. If it was the first show about 'little people' then yes it might be. It's just been done too many times to be new or novel anymore and I don't think people are going to take to it. -
Kim Richards: No Escape from Witch Mountain
HumblePi replied to Lisin's topic in The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills
I spent way too much time talking about Kim on the link for this particular episode and had a few other thoughts about Kim, I thought area of discussion was more appropriate for posting about Kim. Other than the obvious reasons why child stars turn to drugs or alcohol, (there's a long list of them) I wondered what in Kim's childhood impacted her negatively as an adult. Many child stars have turned to drugs or alcohol when suddenly their career hits a slump and they're rejected for roles. Corey Feldman had revealed in an interview that pedophilia is the biggest problem facing children in Hollywood. He also said that growing up in front of the camera had laid the groundwork for a descent into depression and drug abuse; and that without proper guidance, the same could happen to anyone. I believe the dark link in this started with Kim's mother, Kathleen 'Big Kathy' Richards. In an excerpt from a review of the book 'House of Hilton' the reviewer says; Big Kathy Dugan Avanzino Richards Catain Fenton — was "money-driven, amoral, and would in a moment backstab you," says a daughter's ex-boyfriend. "I don't think she really cared about her kids," says the third wife of her second husband, "except for the money they made." And the daughter of Big Kathy's third husband says, "Kathy was a gold digger, no doubt about it. And so were her daughters. She trained them that way." “Like any mother, Kathleen Richards wanted the best for her daughter, Kathy. Where she differed from other mothers was in the way she intended to get it. She wanted her child to know all about sex, and to learn how to perform, literally, so she asked a young man to give her teenage daughter ‘sex lessons’ in his van. Kim needs therapy, not just a life coach. She is way beyond just being needy, she looks desperate.I saw a couple of disturbing looks that came over her when she was at the table for lunch with Eileen and Kyle. The look in her face was disturbing to say the least. It was just sullen and dark and very unsettling. -
It seems to be a major Beverly Hills faux pas to go to any function without Spanx surrounding your bottom half and legs whether you need them or not. It almost seems counterproductive to the new rage for huge derrieres by encasing it in spandex but that's how they roll. I even noticed that Ariana from Vanderpump Rules had Spanx on when she was bent over and kissed by Tom on the staircase as they were introduced in the wedding party for Sheana. I had to back up twice to be sure and yep, there they were, black Spanx. Ariana weighs about as much as my left leg (a joke) she's fit, young and not an ounce of fat on her. So, why the Spanx, I just don't get it?

No, what you just said is not insensitive at all. This season has evolved into one main theme, the addiction of Kim Richards. As Brandi was on the beach talking to her friend Jennifer, who is a recovering addict and addiction specialist, my ears stood up because she was giving Brandi the straight-up reality of what recovery involves. "she relapsing, you don't take someone else's pills" "if you spot it, you got it" "she shouldn't be in those circles yet" "It took five years of my sobriety to finally be out on my own" "does she go to meetings, does she have a sponsor, does she go to therapy, is she involved in all that stuff" "do you have the tools to save her or help her?" Coming from an expert in the field of addiction, I hope Brandi seriously considered all Jennifer had said and really learns by it. We know this is a show built around superficiality but when it becomes merely a vehicle for garnishing ratings numbers or showmanship at the cost of the mental and physical health of one individual then it becomes something vile and reprehensible.

I have read in several reports that Kim had moved into Monty's home rather than he moved into hers. But it doesn't matter because Monty's illness is probably worse than it appears and since Kim is still out doing lunch and socializing with the others for the sake of the show, she's not the sole caretaker for Monty. In December the news was released that Monty's lung cancer had spread to his brain and spine. It's two months later now and 2 months in terms of cancer of the brain and spine can be quite devastating physically. I'm pretty certain that if Monty is being nursed at home that his care is pretty much total care including help with bathing, feeding and walking. Kim said to Lisa R in the limo ride to Eileen's house on poker night "you don't know, what I go through...at night". This made me realize that she's spending the nights with Monty but her days are free to do some filming for the show. This is stage that Hospice Home Care steps in and provides the angels to assist. It's a lot of stress for family to deal with having someone die at home, but Monty might still have enough presence of mind to make his own choices and it seems he would prefer to remain at home to die. My sister took care of her husband who died of brain cancer at their home. It was horrible for both of them but more for her because he was in and out of consciousness most of time receiving heavy doses of morphine intravenously through a pump. He was kept comfortable but her stress was unimaginable. I doubt very much that Kim has this profound responsibility on her hands alone. I'm sure she has round the clock help for Monty.

I agree that Brandi has brought this upon herself and deserves every bit of humiliation. On the other hand, I felt that Lisa lowered herself by proclaiming Brandi to be a 'bitch' in her stand-up speech. Trying to humiliate Brandi by forcing her to sing was pointless because Brandi has no pride whatsoever so all this did was to show that Lisa is nothing more than a spiteful, vengeful woman. Lisa has always tried to portray herself as having class and above all the petty public backstabbing but she showed that she's the same as all the rest, no better. It wasn't so much as enjoying watching Brandi get paid back for her sins as much as it was watching Lisa Vanderpump sinking into the bed of fleas with the other dogs.
-
I have to agree with Brandi on this one. I think Mohammad is creepy even though he's a very rich man. Why can't he do something with that hair of his? ew
-
I agree with you completely. I'm a believer that resolving disagreements and rectifying past transgressions should be done on a one-to-one basis privately. It shows a solid lack of class to intentionally vilify Brandi publicly, particularly at an event such as Lisa's birthday party. There's just no excuse for it and I lost probably the last shred of any respect that I may have had for Lisa Vanderpump. I think that it was intriguing in the past to watch how the 'other half' lives but lately I feel totally saturated by the excessiveness that Lisa and Ken flaunt their wealth and influence. Is there even a tiny shred of humility left in their lives at all?
-
I can't help but feel a little bad for Shay, he has no idea what he's in for. Ruff!

I've always known that this show, and all of the so-called 'reality' shows for that matter, are scripted and contrived. Vanderpump Rules, more than any of the others, is just ten times more obvious. Unlike the Real Housewives of Anywhere, this cast is a lot younger and subsequently they have a lot less experience acting than the older and more experienced actors in the other franchises. I DVR episodes of Vanderpump Rules just so that I can make the decision as to whether I'll watch or fast forward to the 'juicy parts' of each episode. I can also freeze any scene and play it in slow motion frame by frame when I see something that's especially transparent as far as being scripted. I saw quite a few of these scenes in the wedding episode. Let's face it, these younger people in the cast just don't have the skills to pull off one full episode of truly credible acting. It's only our wishes for it to be genuine that makes it so. There was a quick scene of people dancing and James and Kristen could be seen in the shot but James was just standing still like a mannequin as Kristen laughed and talked to someone in front of her. I could see James look towards the camera as if waiting for his cue and once he got the go-ahead from the director he snapped into a different mode of animation and reached to Kristen and held her around her waist. His face went from serious to instant smile. The 30 year old actor, Peter Madrigal wears many hats. He's a model, producer, manager, and director of a few short films. Peter is also the producer and director of Vanderpump Rules. I like Peter personally but the thought hasn't escaped me that Peter has never been involved in the drama or controversy of the show. It makes sense since he produces it and can be whatever he chooses to be. Peter has also made the appeal to Bravo on behalf of the entire cast that their salaries be increased from $5,000 per episode to $10,000.
-
I expected Kristen to bitch-slap James and not actually punch him. I have to say that although I think that physical violence of any type between men and women is reprehensible, I will admit that I'd be very tempted to bitch-slap James at least a dozen times. (or more) And 'ring on a string'?!! Who does that except high school kids?

I don't watch Vanderpump Rules that much so I'm way behind the curve here I'm sure. I had a few thoughts about Sheana's wedding. Her dress was detailed beautifully for being hand-made by her aunt. I didn't care much for the bare midriff, it gave her a fatty back from the side during the ceremony. Okay enough for the dress. One thing that was disturbing was her obnoxious attitude. Yes, she was stressed and yes, she acted like bridezilla, but will she be proud of her spoiled brat demeanor in 10 years when she looks back at her behavior? To put it mildly, does Sheana or any of them for that matter, have any class or pride at all? I had seen an interview a couple of years ago with Kristen and Tom and both talked about their acting career and where they've been able to make appearances in different plays or movies, etc. I've always thought that both of them are just a couple of starving desperate actors in Hollywood that got lucky with Vanderpump Rules. I can't believe any of this stuff, not even close. James and Kristen together is as natural as pairing up a dolphin and an alligator. James is gay I'm sure and there's no chemistry or even pretense of liking each other much less being boyfriend and girlfriend. And why was Sheana so worried about paying for her wedding when she's been ass-kissing Lisa Vanderpump who must be a kazillionaire by now and could afford to throw Sheana a few hundred thousand bucks as easy as breadcrumbs she'd throw to a bird. I watch Vanderpump Rules when I happen to see it being re-run during the week but I don't go out of my way. It's too fake, too unrealistic and too narcissistic and materialistic for me. I just can't relate but I, like many others, can live vicariously for an hour each week. I never watch the opening sequences showing them all posed around Queen Lisa with their hair blowing from a big fan offset and their lip gloss sparkling in the lights.

'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' News 2015: Brandi Glanville Might Leave Bravo Show, 'Maybe It's Not For Me Anymore' I wonder if Brandi has had enough hate thrown at her to make her want to leave?
