  1. Week 23 • Feb. 12 – One Asterisk 111. U.S. STAMPS - This Roman numeral appeared on stamps in a 2022 series for the 50th anniversary of an anti-discrimination law (IX – Title 9) 112. SOUTHERN POLITICIANS - An article written after his 1935 death asked, "Will some crown prince arise to take his place?" (Huey Long) 113. BROADWAY PLAYS - Rita Moreno & Sally Struthers were the first to star in the female version of this comedy, their characters becoming Olive & Florence (The Odd Couple) 114. *LANDMARKS - The distance between its 2 legs at ground level is 630 feet, making it as wide as it is tall (Gateway Arch) 115. THEATER -A 1955 play review noted "restless Delta folk" & "lives as uncomfortable & insecure as the proverbial" this title (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof)
  2. The Odd Couple was an instaget - even though I had no idea it was a gender reversed play on Broadway. I'm not sure what clued me in. Like @Prevailing Wind I would have guessed the neatnik was Moreno and the slob Struthers. I was disappointed Long didn't make win, but them's the breaks.
  3. Me too, military brat, mom, and germaphobe for the win!
  4. I cannot bring myself to eat one of those - not because I wouldn't like it, but I'm afraid I'd like it TOO much!
  5. I didn't realize there were standards....😆 I guess you can't enjoy your feed too much!
  6. I recognized the phrase, but could not, for the life of me, remember where I read it. I was leaning toward Austin or the Brontes.
  7. You know, I'd forgotten about TWOP (it's demise, that is). I too, handled similar issues to yours when I was the webmaster of our city website (a small-ish site, but with some cantankerous frequent complainers - it's that kind of town). I did love TWOP, especially Daniel's recaps (? did I get the name right?) I was only on Twitter so I could see proof of life for one of my kids, but since they're not on it anymore, it wasn't devastating to me. (though I did have some schadenfreude re: the new owner) I do hear you, though. I have other things I'm Chicken Little about. So far not this site, but now I do feel a wee bit worried. 😉
  8. Since I was a webmaster before I retired, I tend to give the moderators/tech support a fair bit of slack. This is an absolutely HUGE website, and a good many of the moderators are just members, like us. (I once "applied" to be moderator for some forum - I forget which - but then realized I just didn't have the time to do it). People do get sick, go on vacations, or just drop out. So when they're away, non urgent issues are probably left for their return. Even the week long absence, given the project, is understandable to me, given the size of the site and the technical (and content) issues involved. It can be frustrating on our end, but I learned during my entire career (with different jobs) that what constituted a priority on my part was often not a priority on the other person's part. Doesn't mean that I don't get irritated sometimes, but I try to be patient. PS This is not in any way a criticism of criticism, as it were. Just my perspective.
  9. That's one of the forums I left, specifically because of how they treated Chrissy Metz (Kate).
  10. I don't eat cold cereal for breakfast. I'm not virtuous - but cold cereal just doesn't stick with me as a meal (neither does yogurt). Instead, I only eat boxed cereal for "dessert" or a snack - even so, I stick to Cheerios (though I might splurge on a Honey Nut version now and again). Cheerios has always been my favorite, though as a child I really liked Cap'n Crunch and Froot Loops.
  11. If you don't deserve donuts after feeling bad about your score, when do you deserve them? I mean, they are one of the ultimate comfort foods. Here you go, and @shapeshifter too (and anyone else who feels low about their score:
  12. Except for the date of the song, you could make a case for FPB - a song about prison could certainly be a incentive to walk (hee) the straight and narrow.
  13. Sorry, I forgot yesterday was Friday. You lose track of days once you retire (at least I do) Week 22 – Feb. 5 – Three Asterisks 106. WORLD FLAGS - The flag of this Asian nation features part of a World Heritage Site built in the 12th century (Cambodia) 107. *LITERARY CHARACTERS - A 1902 work says an enigmatic character has a half-English mom & a half-French dad, but this name of his is German for "short" (Kurtz) 108. *WONDERS OF THE ANCIENT WORLD - Achilles Tatius wrote that it "was like a mountain... at the top of this mountain rose a second sun" (The lighthouse at Alexandria) 109. *COUNTRY MUSIC - "It was kind of a prodding to myself to play it straight", said Johnny Cash of this 1956 hit (I Walk The Line) 110. NOVEL CHARACTERS - It's this character who's spoken of in the line "Reader, I forgave him at the moment & on the spot" (Mr. Rochester)
  14. I've been on a few forums where the toxicity got too much for me. Which is why I'm only on a handful now - and Jeopardy is the nicest forum I've been on. Even the Great British Baking Show had a couple of the people who were nasty about some of the contestants. Guess they didn't really get the wonder of the vibe on the GBBS. I have used the blocking a few times - it is a relief. I haven't always been the nicest - but mostly because I didn't reread and catch something. But I've been actively working on being better both online and in my life. Old People Goals. (at least this old person)
  15. It took me a minute to get "I Walk the Line" - but since it was a song I grew up with, and I only saw the movie once, I got the right title. I did feel a little sorry for them, but not so much that I wasn't thrilled to get an FJ Triple Stumper.
  16. The Right Stuff was the first movie me and the mister saw together. We've watched it many times over the last 40+ years. Plus, like you, I was fond of Qauid's performance (well, fond of Quaid in general). Much cuter than the original Gordo. I knew there was a lighthouse of some sort, but I thought the library of Alexander was the wonder there - so I thought...well maybe the colossus is a lighthouse and he's holding the light in his hands. 🤣 I was sure it was LPs, but said records, so that counts. Thanks for sharing this. I said "So THAT's where the title comes from!!" LOL I think it would have - Wikipedia says: It was a pretty good game, didn't run anything but I got something everywhere, except FJ.
  17. I got it both because I know the German for short, and I remembered the character's name. Couldn't for life of me remember the title - I read it in college and all I remember, really, is well, darkness and jungle(?). But I did know an Oliver Stone movie had been based on it - but because I'm no fan I didn't see it and couldn't remember the (irrelevant to FJ) title. The walkman clue made me feel a bit old. Still, I ran the cateogry and I comfort myself that I've been around for the beginning of all sorts of technology we take for granted today. It was an okay game for me, not great, not terrible.
  18. The universe decide to give you a lift up after the 0/5. Boy, that's a lot of food! I wonder if tater tots crisp up in a toaster oven as well as french fries do (or an air fryer). If there were any leftover, anyway. 😉 Hey, I had the site up and refreshed it exactly when the countdown clock got to zero. Plus, I kept checking it during the week, just in case... LOL. I can blame it on wanting to get the weekly post up, but really, it was just because I missed everyone so much. And I'm a bit obsessive now and then.
  19. You bet. IMO, guesses seem to come out of nowhere because we can't track the thought process and confirm our knowledge. (I'm always coming up with scenarios that explain things - doesn't mean they're true, sadly.) I will yawn at a picture of someone/some animal yawning. Early on I decided to just go with it and not even think about the competition - but then last night I was "when will this competition be over?" I already forget the answer, and don't bother to let me know. Until we're back in regular play, I won't really absorb it.
  20. I "spoiled" myself on that one - but I gave it to myself because it would have been an instaget. When I was pregnant, I didn't crave any food, but I would only listen to Buffet. The.Entire.Pregnancy. Also, listening to his CD kept me from freaking out when having an MRI - when I discovered I was clausterphobic.
  21. I wasn't expecting to miss everyone quite as much as I did. I got back on a second after the countdown ended (well, I did have to post last week's questions for the Contest crowd).
  22. Love Triscuits - but I never eat them when I might talk. 😁 For some reason I didn't like Juveria at first, but I didn't know why. I still don't know why, but I like her and look forward to seeing her dominate in whatever stage of the competition we're in (I lost track). Weird. Maybe I was hormonal (if I have any left).😉
  23. You're not at the bottom of the heap - I got ZERO this week (though I did somehow manage to figure out Blackhawk from a fast, but long, series of thoughts. Not sure what happened, but I kept "losing" a quote, and then it merged them and both drafts appeared and I can't edit it. Sigh...
  24. Welcome Back! I missed you guys! It was a 0 * week for me. Week 21 • Jan. 29 – One Asterisk 101. HISTORICAL FICTION - Stan Lee said the alias-using title character of this novel set during the French Revolution "was the 1st superhero I... read about" (The Scarlet Pimpernel) 102. NAMES IN HISTORY - The scientific name of Jamaica's ackee fruit honors this captain who brought it to England in 1793 (Bligh) 103. AMERICAN MUSICIANS - Also an author, this singer who had 5 Top 40 hits in the 1970s was called the "Pirate Laureate" (Jimmy Buffett) 104. GEOGRAPHY - The first city in Australia with a municipal government, this state capital bears the name of a queen (Adelaide) 105. *ARMY TECHNOLOGY - Bearing the name of a man who died in Iowa in 1838, these began service in 1979 & today number in the thousands (Blackhawk Helicopters)
