  1. Oh they're back. I'm not sure they went anywhere far but they're very much around this summer. And I'd pay money for one of the Duggar girls to wear that with a pair of short denim shorts. If Mechelle could do it...
  2. The 90's would like a word. There may or may not be pictures floating around somewhere of me wearing t-shirts under spaghetti-strapped, thin, flowery dresses. Matched with shitkicker boots. The 90's were awesome. And they are coming back fashion wise so I suppose this girl could just be attempting to be trendy... although that particular dress is a little tragic.
  3. Stop at Taco Bell for some fresh veg, then home for the main course of steak no trimmings, leave again for some fries at Burger King, then right back home for some cinnamon toast dessert.
  4. Are they on some sort of low carb diet? Who just plates up a slab of meat with nothing to accompany it? I mean, even just a piece of bread and a dollop of sauce/dip/sour cream and some veg would've made it better.
  5. While I agree on the hospitality angle, that a variety of food should be served if there's a buffet, I really don't think it's the responsibility of the bride and groom to keep track of people's allergies. If you have an allergy, let them know in advance. It's pretty unreasonable imo to expect people to cater to any potential allergies that they haven't even been told about.
  6. I actually like the cake. Perhaps it's not ideal as a wedding cake but it looks tasty and fresh, like something I'd actually enjoy eating rather than use as a centre piece.
  7. Eep, sorry! Not American or English speaker so sometimes the nuances are a little beyond my ken, my bad!
  8. That poor lad. He just looks resigned and hopeless, trying to put on a brave face. And poor Lauren. I don't think I've been this furious at Boob since the whole Josh debacle. The following is my opinion only and I truly hope that I am wrong: Boob has treated Josiah like crap since forever, sent him to ALERT for conversion "therapy" and pressured him into marrying this unfortunate girl. I think Josiah's immediate post-ALERT engagement to Marjorie was more about him being scared "straight" rather than any real attraction he had towards her and I think this marriage was pushed through for similar reasons. Again, I hope I am wrong but the misery on that boy's face on what should be one of the happiest days of his life makes me think something fishy is going on here. He should be looking like John David right now, not like his life is over.
  9. Does anyone know if Abby actually has a job? There's lots of speculation about whether she will quit or continue working but so far all I've seen evidence of is her having a degree, not actual employment as a nurse.
  10. Isn't psychology a big no no in fundie circles? I was under the impression that they veer from highly sceptical to downright hostile to anything that involves studying the brain or psyche or any attempts to explain human behaviour as something other than sinning/demonic possession/fortress building devil et.c. They certainly don't appear to buy into any kind of child psychology/developement as, from what I've seen, they seem to interpret any kind of childish behaviour in terms of defiance and rebellion that needs to be squashed out of those manipulative little sinners. I would be surprised if Lauren had studied psychology at all but especially at college level. It would be a good thing if she had but it just doesn't seem to mesh with their beliefs.
  11. I think perhaps our paper ice cream cartons must be of different sizes and design; ours are designed to open from the side and are pretty small. I'm trying to picture scooping ice cream out of a block paper carton and even if I was using a teeny tiny scoop, it would end up a mess. :D If I want a single serving I just cut off a piece of the carton and remove the cardboard from that. And yes Jill, I use a "butcher" knife.
  12. I'm a little confused as to how you would serve a block of ice cream without cutting it with a knife. But this is way of the Duggars I guess, expecting praise for reinventing the wheel.
  13. I find it a little alarming that everyone in that picture looks so alike, even the in-laws. I think it's the chins.
  14. That is probably the prettiest dress I've seen Jill in. It's a nice summer dress that looks formal enough for a wedding but not stiff and frumpy/sloppy like the usual Duggar wear. And it looks like it actually fits. And there are no stupid "modesty" add-ons!
  15. That resume is pretty weird and you can pinpoint almost exactly when he started to lose his mind. The first posts are just normal teenage stuff, then school, then his stay in Nepal which was Jesus-related but he downplays that and focuses on the things his actually did day to day which makes sense professionally. Then it gets a little weird because you'd think an accountant job at Walmart would merit more than two fairly vague lines in such a short resume, but maybe he didn't do much while working there. But then the batshittery truly begins and he starts sounding like a full-blown religious nutjob, which to be fair he is. It looks like 2015 really did a number on his psyche. It's also interesting that he doesn't mention his reality-tv job at all.
  16. Oh hi are you me? We've had to pay for grocery bags for as long as I can remember but they've upped the ante now for environmental reasons so now all shops charge for bags and the price has doubled. I mean, it's a good thing really; plastic is causing so much damage to the oceans, but I always forget to bring my own bag and end up having to pay for a new one.
  17. Oh, ok. The camera angle makes it look like both tables could fit, but it makes more sense that they replaced the small table with a bigger one. That they didn't keep the chairs when they have no real replacements makes somewhat less sense. Unless it was a set and they sold it as such. Aaand now I've spent decidedly far too much time thinking about Duggar furniture, i.e. more than two minutes.
  18. Looking at the picture above, it appears they still have the small table with chairs. It looks a bit on the tiny side for four peple so I can see why they'd want a bigger one, but I don't get why they don't just throw out the small table or at least use those chairs for the big one instead of using whatever they can scrounge up from around the house. It's not as if they have a formal dining room; both tables are in the same combined kitchen/dining area, literally right next to each other.
  19. What happened to all that furniture they got after their wedding? There were entire sets if I recall correctly, all dark wood and rather ugly but there was enough of it to fill up the McMansion. And yet now everything they own is mismatched and worn, looking like thrift shop finds; those "chairs" at the big dining table look like piano stools. Nothing wrong with being thrifty but I thought they already owned furniture. Unless it was just part of the McMansion deal and Boob repossessed it all when Jill and Derrick went to Danger America.
  20. Haha, that was my first thought. I studied archaeology for a bit and anytime we got to handle old stuff it was DO NOT TOUCH WITHOUT GLOVES OR THE WORLD WILL END. They were very serious about gloves. And, apparently, wrong.
  21. Is divorce still a huge taboo among fundies these days, outside of Gothardism? I ask because I read recently that Evangelical Christians is the group with the highest divorce rate in the US.
  22. Josh was never really in love with Anna, imo. A crush maybe, and he might have come to appreciate her as the mother of his children, but love? Nah. She was a solution to a problem, both to Josh (cure to lack of sex) and Josh's parents (give child-molesting son human sex-toy to avoid him preying on his sisters). I also don't think that these people are ever able to be completely honest with each other, even when in private. They are so used to having someone watching over their shoulders, so trained in keeping up appearences, that honesty is virtually impossible if it in any way goes against the beliefs they were indoctrinated with. If you listen to them talking and see how they express themselves in writing, easily half of their speech is made up of thought-terminating clichés. For either Josh or Anna to be able to have an honest conversation about themselves, their wants, and their wishes for the future, they would need therapy. Secular therapy with a trained professional, not some pastor telling them to pray harder and read the Bible for the umpteenth time. And that will simply never happen. They are well and truly buggered.
  23. Absolutely true. Cooked breakfasts with meat and eggs are a very Anglo/American thing to eat whereas most of Europe prefers something lighter in the morning. In some Asian countries rice is a breakfast staple. My working class grandparents used to eat a light coffee and plain bread first breakfast and then had a cooked second breakfast a few hours later (no they were not hobbits). It's all cultural. That said, I have to admit that the idea of putting that particular meat and those particular eggs in my mouth first thing in the morning makes me feel a bit ill. That meal looks very dry and not even a little bit tasty. Jill keeps bragging about all the big salads and fresh fruit the Duggars supposedly ate when she was a child but I see no signs of that habit in the food she's posting. It's a wonder they all don't have scurvy.
  24. The fact that all the recipes Jill has posted so far have been in various shades of brown makes me a little sad. Like, these are the best happy nostalgia childhood recipes that she can come up with and they are all just... brown. No colourful fresh vegetables, no pink salmon or even white fish, no juicy steaks or chops with those nicely seared stripes from the grill. No green herbs. Just bland and brown and salty. I feel genuinely sorry for those kids growing up.
  25. Wait, I thought this was the bachelor/bachelorette party. Like, a joint one and they just called it a shower because of that. Wtf is a wedding shower then? Is this a thing outside of Duggardom? What's the purpose? I would have thought pretty much everything would be covered by the bachelor party/ rehersal dinner/wedding sequence of events. I have so many questions now!
