  1. I would love to be a fly on the wall when something like that came on. Jinger's reaction would be genuinely fascinating to watch.
  2. Cute is probably not a word I would ever use to describe Derrick, but he did look nicer and more normal back then. And kinder. I'm not sure if it was the surgery or the way his life has turned out that changed him but he went from fairly sweet looking doofus in the Nepal episode to looking outright mean. There's something around his eyes now that wasn't there at the start but I dont know if it's due to the misalignment of his face from the surgery or something inside him showing on his face. It's quite incredible how a person's looks can change so much over just a few years though, whatever the reason.
  3. 2 cups. That's like half a litre of sugar. That is literally two whole cakes worth of sugar and she's pouring it on top of beans? I... do not understand this style of cooking at all.
  4. Judging by this video I think Jill is now the same bossypants around Derrick as she used to be around her siblings. Honeymoon phase is decidedly over. She seems annoyed by him; he seems annoyed and slightly cowed by her. And wtf is with all the yays?
  5. They re-enacted this scenario in a X Kids and Counting episode back in the day. Mechelle and the oldest girls were away for some reason and Boob was left to "babysit" the younger kids. Went as well as you can imagine with highlights such as Jim Bob being unable to make a pony tail despite having eleventy daughters and the infamous BBQ tuna for dinner incident, because apparently that is still the only thing he can cook. And the thing is, that if I recall it correctly, the kids all found the dish pretty revolting so I'm not sure why Jill is singing its praises now. Trying to kiss Boob's arse for some reason?
  6. I like Lauren's decorating style, I think she's got an eye for it. Unlike the usual dour and drab with heavy dark furniture Duggar style it is very light and plain, if a little impersonal. Though that could be because she's too young to have actually collected anything interesting for her home yet. Everything looks brand new. I can't get over the lack of art though. There are frames all over the place but when you look closer there are just a bunch of random words inside them. Is art prohibited in fundieland? I don't think I've seen any kind of artwork in a Duggar household aside from those horse drawings that Bin made for Jessa.
  7. And here we were, all the girls in class reading Clan of the Cave Bear in 5th grade and no one batted an eye. I may have gotten some slightly skewed ideas about human sexuality from that one lol. I dearly wish I could be a fly on the wall should Jill or any of the Duggar daughters ever get hold of that series and read it since even perfectly innocent romance novels are considered "porn for women" by their ilk. Didn't Jill go to a teenager's birthday party at one time to lecture the girls on the importance of avoiding even fictional romance lest they'd accidentally give away pieces of their heart to the hero or something?
  8. This is the shortest skirt I've ever seen a Duggar daughter wear ever. It's almost Amy length.
  9. Jill actually looks really pretty in that first pic. She cleans up nice when she makes an effort and forgets to make those exaggerated faces. Perhaps someone took her aside and quietly explained that wide open gobs and Shar Pei forehead wrinkles are not in fact attractive to most people.
  10. Jessa was barefoot at her wedding? I thought Jill was the only one to do that.
  11. LOL! Could be, could be. We don't actually use the term Boxing Day in Sweden but I don't know what else to call it in English. It's "Annandag jul" in Swedish which I suppose could be translated to Second Day of Christmas. Even though it's the third day. Which really only makes sense if you consider the old way of measuring days when a new day began at sundown, not at midnight. We actually are celebrating Christmas on Christmas Day, it's just that around these parts Christmas Day used to start sometime in the afternoon on the 24th. Which technically makes Boxing Day the second day of Christmas. Somehow. Aaand here endeth the random history lesson. To keep this somewhat on topic, I'm kind of with @doodlebug on the oddness of Jeremy the Pastor not spending Christmas with his flock, at least part time. I think most churches here, Lutheran or Evangelical, have specific Christmas services on both Christmas Eve and Day. It's just such an important part of the liturgical year. For most people it is the only time they go to church if they ever do. Though perhaps Jeremy's church isn't quite so established that it has become a tradition to go there on Christmas just yet. If there's nothing especially Christmas-like about the service and hardly anyone else is attending I wouldn't want to waste family time going there either and if no one is coming, why would Jeremy bother with a service?
  12. Sort of. It is an official holiday but Boxing Day is also when the Christmas Sales start (essentially Black Friday on steroids) so the poor bastards working retail or have essential jobs like cops and nurses and the like still have to show up for work. They get payed extra though at least. It used to be a lot more strict in the past with closed shops on all holidays and all but then capitalism happened.
  13. Hee! I'll see your 6th January and raise you another week. Christmas is on the 24th. Christmas Day is is for vegging and/or clubbing and Boxing day is for more vegging and eating yourself stupid on leftovers and chocolate. Christmas is not truly over until the 13th of January when the Christmas tree is plundered and Christmas danced out.
  14. I realise some will take this as evidence of an oppressive nanny state but we have actual rules as to what you can legally name your child (you can call them whatever you like in private of course) and reading this thread I'm kind of happy about that. Heistheway wtf? It's worse than effing Renesmee. Sometimes kids just need protecting from their parents' brain farts.
  15. Yeah, that is the usual explanation and it does have merit. However, whether it's the eye of an actual needle or just a really narrow gate I think the message still stands. Rich people will, according to Jesus, have a harder time getting into heaven and that pretty much completely contradicts the prosperity gospel. I feel that the narrow gate explanation tends to be used to handwave away what Jesus actually meant a lot of the time. But then again I feel that Jeremy and the Duggars and their ilk tend to handwave away a lot of things their god tells them to do whenever it is inconvenient to them.
  16. Have these people... read the Bible? Because I'm fairly certain that's not in the Bible. I mean, I'm an atheist heathen and all so you probably shouldn't take my word for it, but didn't Jesus have some choice words about rich people and eyes of needles and also about giving all your money to the poor or some such? Is Gothardism part of the prosperity gospel ideology btw? Is Jeremy?
  17. Jinger spent her childhood listening to Boob's rambling "sermons" during home church and he isn't able to string together a coherent sentence either. I'm pretty sure she thinks that's how sermons are supposed to sound.
  18. It's weird that they all do that pecky fish kiss. Perhaps having had Blob and Mechelle as role models permanently warped the Duggarlings view of what kissing is supposed to look like and since neither they or their spouses are allowed to watch anything beyond a PG rating they are forever doomed to smooch like starving trouts.
  19. For Jill's sake I hope he doesn't bomb his finals, because you just know he would blame her and the kids, use it as an excuse to drop out and then spend the rest of their life together passive aggressively bringing it up whenever Jill or anyone else ever dare to question his lack of success in life. And, as you point out, he wouldn't be entirely wrong though I doubt Jill is self-aware enough to realise it. These two...
  20. Jill made a cinnamon bun... casserole? What is that white gloop on top of the buns?
  21. I wish someone would explain moisturisers to Jill. How anyone could have that many lines while still in their twenties is a mystery to me. I'm sure her diet doesn't help but her skin looks very dry as well; I think she could end up looking much better if she could go on a nice spa weekend with facial treatments and a consult on skin products that actually fit her. She needs a good scrubbing and a lot of moisture imo. My guess is on all of the above.
  22. So, in short, she nicked and wholesale copied the recipe from a link where someone had converted the American recipe to European and didn't bother to read it through before posting. ETA: Ooops, sorry Jill.
  23. Is Jill going grey? Or is it just the light? There is a light streak near her temple and the hair in her up-do looks different than the hair closer to her face which is usually a sign of someone dyeing their hair to conceal the grey (ask me how I know). It's early days yet but sometimes greying can start in your early twenties (again, ask me how I know). Although, most of the Duggars have what in Swedish is referred to as "rat-coloured" hair (mousy?) which could explain it. And, as others have pointed out, that turkey photo looks like a classic dick pic. I wonder if Derrick is aware and is just doing his usual faux-innocent trolling or if he's genuinely clueless as to how it looks.
  24. That was a really interesting article @LilJen thanks! It had never entered my mind that tipping a waiter would be a sign that I thought them to be inferior in any way; to me it's just a token of appreciation for a job well done. This is what makes these boards so great, I always learn new things and perspectives.
  25. As a European I apologize! Tip isn't always included (at least where I live it is quite rare), but we do tend to find American tipping culture a bit weird and vaguely offensive. Whenever I eat out I usually tip something, but that is as a thank you for good or great service and the amount is dependent on that. The idea that you have to pay 20% extra at all times whenever you go out to eat feels a lot like the restaurant owner is expecting you to pay part of their employees' salary because they are too greedy to pay their workers a living wage. Tip in Europe is more like an extra perk, it's not meant to be something the waiters are dependent on for a living. So, we don't mean to be cheap and mean when we go to US restaurants, we just don't view tips in the same way as you do. I think most Europeans learn and adapt to US tipping culture after a while but it can still feel a bit odd.
