  1. A minimum of 5 women make it to the finals, a minimum of 2 make it to Vegas. There's an outside chance of more than that making it through the regular way.
  2. After seeing Ishimoto talk about his sister, I wanted to see her dance too. What a gorgeous pair of humans. Ganbare, Ishimoto!
  3. They don't always do that, it is often in the middle. A few weeks back, Jessie Graff ran after they gave out the "award", so I was pretty sure she crashed, otherwise they would have given it to her.
  4. I guess I'm alone in loving Kaylee and the nisei girl. I'm with y'all on the weak salsa.
  5. If they were going to pull in a SYTYCD junior, I'd rather it were Tate McRae, she at least has the maturity to have a shot against the older dancers. Because they have a fixed score as the cut-off line, all the fancy scoring is just a gimmick. It might as well be thumbs up or thumbs down, unless they are carrying scores forward (I don't think they are).
  6. I wasn't even aware he had covered it. I've always thought of it as a Carpenters song, and Sonic Youth did an amazing cover as well. Originally Bonnie & Delaney, 1969.
  7. He could have taken a less combative tone, but basically I agree with him. Technical advice from fans is not needed or appreciated. He (and any other artist) is quite aware of what he is doing, for better or worse.
  8. Mary told her daughter the drugs were to put the cat down because it had cancer. Apparently that requires a whole case. She didn't have the heart to actually put the cat down.
  9. They definitely want to do a season 2 but no word yet.
  10. Yeah, we had 2 great dramas released in Canada this year, both only 6 episodes (Cardinal was the other one). It really tightens things up compared to the more common 13 episode story arcs we see on Netflix these days, and of course it is almost impossible to sustain any tension over a full-season run of 22 or 24 episodes.
  11. There's only 6 episodes, no time to fuck around. Except when she's fucking around with Joel of course....
  12. There are a few religious reviewers out there who view her as pretty much an assassin for hire.
  13. Spoiler-y mostly positive review in the Washington Post today. No significant spoilers, very positive in the LA Times.
  14. TIL: Killing Me Softly was composed by Charles Fox with lyrics by Norman Gimbel, but inspired by a Don McLean concert Leiberman was at. She described the feeling to Gimbel who thought it would make a good song.
  15. You misspelled Roberta Flack there.
  16. Full episodes are available online here, not sure if they are blocked outside of Canada.
  17. This weeks episode seemed to clarify that she was involved with the boy's death. There was also the matter of her mother, which was hinted at earlier. I am interested to see how many of the plots they wrap up in 2 hours and still leave it open for a 2nd season.
  18. 2nd episode is continuing with the high quality and ramping up the tension quite nicely. There is certainly no problem with dragging out plot points forever, and I guess why would they, with only 6 episodes? Bonus points for using a Sarah McLachlan song that isn't Angel. I thought that scene was very well done and quite touching. I'm not so sure why she has such a problem with someone killing themselves using a gun or whatever other means. Same result, just messier, no?
  19. Nice article about the series for our American friends. The US premier is April 23 on Lifetime.
  20. Thanks! Any other fellow Canuckistanians watching this one? I've loved Caroline Dhavernas ever since Wonderfalls and I think she's great in this one. It's a nice mixture of drama and comedy. I thought her falling for the patient/undercover cop so quickly rang a little false but hey, only 6 episodes, they have to move fast.
  21. The Lennon sisters were originally hired for their singing talents I'm sure. They've been given more and more to do because people love those kids, but I wish they'd just trot them out every other episode to sing another lovely duet.
  22. I happened to catch her in a lightweight rom-com called "Chalet Girl", she was OK in it.
