  1. Yes, Joy has a beautiful thick head of hair, and IIRC, she seems to curl it less than the others. I am really interested in seeing the bridesmaids dresses too. I do hope Michelle purchased a new dress in a different color for this event instead of wearing the MOB dress she wore in Jill's wedding. According to the article in PEOPLE magazine, grey is one of Jessa's wedding colors. I doubt she did anything different to her hair though, she really is attached to the fuzzy mullet.
  2. Yes, that, and he made a lot of very good real estate investments. They both held doctorate degrees in education and were very wise about a lot things, but they never neglected to invest in those they cared about and were very generous and kind to us.
  3. I'm pretty sure JB and Michelle consider decision making for the wedding details non-essentials. They've shown that they're really only concerned with controlling the essentials like the ones you listed above. Although, I'd add marital counseling to the list. Ugh. :)
  4. I agree with you. My Aunt and Uncle were very wealthy millionaires, but my Uncle was the cheapest person I ever knew (my Aunt was not, so she balanced him out quite well). Anyway, he always insisted on buying the bruised up bananas with the ends cut off at the grocery store as well as the banged up canned foods because they were marked down. He also preferred to shop at consignment stores for things like sweaters and shirts rather than pay department store prices, although he purchased items like pants and suits at regular stores bc he was 6' 5". He purchased near new vehicles at auction, mostly. That said, he was very generous and paid for my college tuition and a used vehicle for me at auction. He paid for all his children and grandkids college tuition and left them all with a very nice inheritance. Oh, another funny thing about him was once he retired he would daily go to Nordstrom Cafe and spend 25 cents on a cup of coffee and get multiple free refills while reading their daily newspaper (that he didn't have to pay for) every morning. They knew him there by name! At any rate, with all his thriftiness, you wouldn't guess by looking at his lifestyle or anyone in the family as cutting corners, bc he was always a classy guy, just cheap. Regarding the Duggars, I think the family thinks they are ministering to their viewers by showing off their thrifty ideology to teach us their ways and call it ministry in order to justify to themselves for doing a TV series and and making a boatload of $$ from it. Edited for typos.
  5. Every other day or possibly third day would be fine if you use a dry powder shampoo in between and shower with a shower cap on. Some people just have oilier scalps than others and need to use some type of shampoo daily otherwise you end up looking like you haven't showered with stringy hair. I will say, out of all the girls, Jana looks the cleanest and has the healthiest looking hair. She never looks dingy or unkept. She's one classy girl.
  6. I agree. Jill's hair, maybe more than the others, looks particularly damaged (and dare I say, unwashed?).
  7. At first look, I didn't really care for the color of Ben's shirt combined with the orangey-red bow tie and thought a white shirt would look better also. It's just not my preference, not that it matters to J and B. Seeing the whole wedding party together and a photo of the couple standing up will help form my opinion better. Regardless, I do think they look 10x better than Jill and Derick.
  8. Lotta Body Setting Lotion at Sally's for $6 is better than hairspray and you apply it to towel-dried hair, let it dry naturally or blow dry and then set curls. You can use it full strength or diluted according to your hair type. http://www.makeupalley.com/product/x_showreview.asp?ItemID=8242&Lottabody_Setting_Lotion&Revlon&Styling_Products I use it on my daughter to set curls.
  9. All I can think of, is how Jana, Jinger, and Joy are going to be really weighed down with child-care and cooking duty now that Jessa is married. I feel really bad for them.
  10. Regarding Ben's shoes, apparently GQ agrees that dark brown shoes (as long as they aren't light brown or tan) are appropriate and perfectly acceptable with a navy suit. According to the article they should be as dark as the suit, which looking at the wedding photo, Ben could have chosen a bit darker brown shoe. I don't think he's that far off though. http://www.gq.com/style/style-guy/shoes/200501/navy-suit-brown
  11. I wonder if Josiah was chosen bc he's close to Jessa or if it's bc he developed a relationship with Ben that hasn't been captured on camera?
  12. The dress looks blush in this photo. Much nicer looking dress than Jill's.
  13. Yes! Finally Jessa proved you can wear a fitted dress with unaltered sleeves and necklines and still modest and tasteful. I think PEOPLE got the shade of the dress wrong though, it's beige not blush.
  14. Their first wedding photo. Jessa's dress looks pretty. Ben looks goofy -- not crazy about the color of his shirt and red bow tie combo. The look happy though. http://www.people.com/article/jessa-duggar-ben-seewald-married-wedding-19-kids-and-counting
  15. Someone may have donated their vacation condo or cabin for three weeks and all they would need to do is buy groceries and take plenty of spending money for the occasional meal out and movie night. Someone mentioned upthread that they would be living with the Duggars while Ben is taking online classes. I hope this is just speculation. It's more likely they would move into Grandma Duggar's old house.
  16. It may be popular in the South, but not up North. I've made it a few times with leftover chili for my husband to chow on during football season. He asked for it after trying it at a Sonic Drive In. I'd rather just eat chili, but then I'm not a big fan of Fritos. ETA: Frito Pie has certainly taken on a life of its own on this thread, lol. I'm sorry to be so outspoken about it, but I'm kind of flabbergasted someone would serve this at a rehearsal dinner.
  17. I see it differently than you. Brisket, particularly if it's smoked, made in the oven and slow cooked at a low temperature for for several hours is quite different than Frito Pie (no matter how it's prepared). Apples and oranges, imo. Regardless, Frito Pie is about right for this crew and their dog and pony show.
  18. Higgins, I think Joe Jitsu is referring to the reception, not the rehearsal dinner.
  19. It is pie, in that it is baked in a pan. It is actually a casserole. And I don't know what kind of Frito Pie you've had, but it is not elaborate. You take chili that you've made from the day before, along with cheese, Fritos, and onions and layer it in a baking pan like you do with lasagne and bake at 375 for 45 minutes. My 10 year old can make it with a little supervision. This is a ballgame meal, not something you serve to your wedding party, especially when you're forgoing a reception dinner.
  20. Hope they took notes at Jill's ill-planned wedding reception and are ditching the ice cream sundaes or are revising it and serving up ice cream cake instead. These people aren't dirt-poor -- hire a catering company and do it right! Unlikely though, since their idea of a rehearsal dinner meal is to serve Frito Pie. Tacky.
  21. I know, right? It practically pokes ya in the eye. Mandragor, you're right! That hemline is not Duggar-approved, her knees are, as Jill would say, totally showing.
  22. So many things to snark on here... Frito pie for a rehearsal dinner? Um, no. That's nothing more than a chili, Fritos, and cheese casserole. Basically something your average 15 year old can make in their sleep. Come on! That's just rude. What is the obsession with the gold sweater? I hope Jessa bought herself a new one since Jill has worn that old sweater in umpteen episodes and TV interviews already. Here we go again with the barefeet -- spare me! And more importantly, spare your guests of having to put up with this nonsense, you aren't having a beach wedding. And you do realize, it's Fall, and you don't live in the tropics. Girl, put on a pair of skimmers at the very least, and call it a day or take your wedding to Cancun. What do ya wanna bet, we'll have to witness another shabby wedding? I'll need more alcohol for round 2.
  23. Looks like Jessa is following in Jill's (bare) footsteps. Ugh. http://www.people.com/article/jessa-duggar-ben-seewald-wedding-rehearsal-19-kids-and-counting ETA: looks like we posted it at about the same time, lizzy3.
