Yup. There'll be a B2 and one will go home.

By OTT I mean it was overtly sexual, and quite frankly probably too "Urban" for the voting audience. She's always been theatrical, but that was something new to her show. And I don't know that audiences will love it. I sincerely hope I'm wrong, because it would be a crime for her to be B2. But, it is what it is.

So I'm a little upset with Pharrell tonight. 1. Why on earth would you put dancers around Sawyer..that had to be the most awkward thing ever. He's not a performs with dancers kind of guy. Ever. Even if he doesn't have a guitar. And I doubt very much he wanted that them there. 2. Yes, I know he'd sell a burp at this point, but you don't have to give Sawyer complete control over song choice. "Shine On" was apparently very sentimental to him. Okay. Then advise him not to do his second pick.. 3. Speaking of Song Choice. Don't let your contestant sing an iconic song if they can't sing the iconic part of the song. #Koryn. Joshua was Joshua. I'm not sure how many fans he has. Kimberly was great tonight, IMO, but she also might have been too over the top for The Voice audience. Meghan was great with Amazing Grace, but I hated Steamroller Blues. Didn't come close to Bria Kelly's for me. India was meh. I thought Glory was pretty good, and the first half of Lay By yourside..but she ruined it in her breakdown. My B2 would be Joshua and India..but I'm thinking it'll be India and Koryn.

I think my point was what was missed. I never said that there weren't multi-faceted young entertainers. Heck, essentially every major young actor or actress on Glee fits that description. My point was that Darren seemed to be multi-faceted to a greater extent than a lot of entertainers. I didn't think that this list that was created in the other thread disproved my point. And because that list included every little thing that those young entertainers were involved in, I included every little thing Darren was involved in. The fact that one was mocked while the other appeared to be legitimate is what annoyed me. (And it wasn't just Lea's status as an author, there were a lot of fuzzy little things like the ability to play the harmonica.) Because yes, I do think it's rare that an entertainer is as involved in as many areas as Darren is. Gosh, popular musicians are praised and considered a rarity when they write and sing their own music by themselves and are then able to play an entire show by themselves (because of their ability to play instruments). Never mind if you add in theatre, film and tv actor as well as apparently a competent dancer. If people can come up with other entertainers that are involved in all of the above, good on you. This is going in circles now, and I've been as clear as I can be. As for Hedwig, he seems to be getting decent to good reviews from those fans of the show. So good for him.

OMFG. That's their best promo ever.

Donald Glover is more of what I'm talking about. Where his talent spans more than what someone who is "multi-talented" typically spans. Singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, producer, writer, standup comedian. That's what I'm talking about. My point was, that is different from someone like Jennifer Hudson..who is extremely talented, but she's really just the typical singer/actress multi-faceted entertainer.
-
I'm not trying to deflect anything. That list consisted of a bunch of "sings, dances, acts in theatre, acts in film, acts in television" etc..essentially any little thing that entertainer has done. Then, using Criss' example of playing the harmonica was mocked, while apparently Lea's "author" status is totally legitimate (and if you'd like, I could go back to that list and pick on different ones..that one just stood out to me.). You don't see the hypocrisy? I agree that someone who sings, dances, and acts isn't rare. (Someone who does them all amazingly well, that's rare.) Now, when you add in theatre, film, and tv..that's a little different. (And they have distinctions because you act different in each medium.) But then when you add in the songwriting, and the ability to play multiple instruments, that's what makes it different. Most of the time, people who are multi-faceted in the entertainment area where their focus is to "put on a show," they aren't as involved in the "background" areas like songwriting, play writing and playing instruments. (IMO, because most of the time, there's personality differences for individuals who prefer one side over the other.) I'm not saying they don't exist. But to say that it's common is inaccurate, IMO.
-
So you can't. This is too funny.
-
Then. Name. Them. Oh wait..someone did and they felt the need to use Lea's status as an "author" as an example. Also, "rare" and "only" aren't synonyms. You know, Darren's done pretty well for himself. Being that he's an unnattractive, untalented (in anything), uncharismatic, unintelligent human being.

Jesus, Idina Menzel doesn't have perfect pitch. (I"m not comparing the two, trust me I'm not.) Adam Lambert doesn't. Most singers don't. I haven't listened to Darren's audio, but I know him well enough to know he's never going to have perfect pitch during the show because he never has perfect pitch. (And in fact, if he does...good on him.) He just doesn't have the voice..and if that's an issue for Broadway (which, it isn't..I've been to enough broadway shows to know that) then it's not Darren's fault, because the show runners should have known that before hiring him. And this whole "harmonica" and "exact equivalency" is a complete straw man of my entire argument. The ONLY reason why I listed every single little thing Darren did was because others had done the same with their examples of multi-talented younger entertainers. (And yes, calling Lea an author, and listing that as an example of being multi-talented, is just silly. The Kardashians did the same type of book, are we going to list writing as one of their talents?) My point was, that yes..I do think it's kind of rare that a younger entertainer is involved in as many aspects of entertaining as Darren is. He's a singer, a songwriter, an instrumentalist, and an actor through all mediums. That's not to say that he's amazing at what I just said he is. That's not to say that other younger entertainers aren't multi-talented. But to have his hand in so much, I think is pretty rare. And the starter list provided in the other thread didn't change my point, because no..none of those people are as heavily involved in as many different areas as Darren is. And that point is only made further when you feel the need to list Lea as an author. But the only reason why I said that, is because of the praise Darren has been receiving from the show runners. My point was simply that, perhaps..Darren's involvement in so many different areas struck the show runners as special. Maybe that's why they see him as really talented. It's also ridiculously silly to judge Darren's songs and ability to connect and emote through bad audio. And shows a bias that probably isn't even worth arguing. From what I've seen, the most picky broadway fans say he did an adequate job opening night. Given he's nervous and from what I can tell, Hedwig is a difficult role, and who he's following..I'd say that's pretty much as good of reviews as he was going to get from those people.

I don't think including the harmonica in instruments Darren can play is strawman or silly or whatever. My argument was simply, the kid is involved in a ton of different areas of the entertainment industry in many different ways. Perhaps that's a little different. And considering examples of others were, say, calling Lea an author..I'd say it's fine to list that. It's just funny that no one can ever give Criss credit. Darren has never been someone to stay on pitch too well live. I mean, decent enough but he's just not a flawless vocalist like Lea or Amber. So I doubt it'll happen on this broadway run. -
Of all the contestants, Sawyer reminds me of Danielle. Clearly extremely talented, but pretty green. (Kind of wide eyed and innocent.) They both are in genres that the voting audiences tend to prefer. He hasn't been amazing, but he's been consistently good every week like she was. Yes, Danielle had a clear pitch perfect voice, and Sawyer has an interesting tone and emotes better than she does, but even still..there's so much potential in both of them. And they have similar stage presence issues (Kind of not knowing what to do with themselves. Sawyer uses the guitar to hide it some, but it's evident that he's uncomfortable with it.) It's just Sawyer doesn't have two other great contestants in the same genre as he is (like Danielle had in Amber and The Swons) nor does he have a contestant that is performing extremely well every week while simultaneously having his/her personality being showcased in a way that the audience will gravitate too (Michelle)..so he's dominating even more than she did.

From what I've read, a huge chunk of the country block flat out rejected Corey. (Didn't seem genuinely country) Personally, I think there's a Blake voting block, and to an extent an Adam voting block (that's just not as strong.) But people have always cared about quality of the contestant on The Voice. Which is one of the reasons why I like the show. And I actually thought Hannah was the best of the three. She missed some lines, but the chorus was in tune...which beats the other two.
-
No, they are going 6-5-Finale Three more weeks
-
I don't know, he helped RaeLynn, and as much as I wasn't crazy about Corey, he's significantly better than her. I think Corey represents current country to Blake, and even though that's the type of music Blake sings (because it sells) he's a bigger fan of older country.
-
I think this is a very good Top 6. I would replace Joshua and India with Brooke and Mia, but they are really really good. (Even including Joshua and India, they just aren't my type.) Corey needed to go. He probably shouldn't have even made top 12. I'm glad we got some rational results. Hannah though, I thought she killed the other two during her save me performance. But she went first so she was never going to win. edit: I don't think it's the oversinging that's causing India vote problems. First of all, she never sold well on itunes. And second, her vibrato is so obnoxious that even I can't stand it. (And I can stand a lot of goat vibratos.)

That's true, but it's where the WGWG name comes from, and that type of thing is going to be carried from one show to another. I think it's not really a problem for The Voice, like it became a problem for Idol. But when people bring up the term, and why it's negative, the explanation starts with Idol.
-
Oh, WGWG is definitely negative on Idol. Because the problem with a great majority of the WGWG's on Idol is they can't sing. And when they "Change up" a song, they do it because they can't sing half of the notes of the actual melody. That's just not the case with The Voice WGWGs. (probably because blind auditions exist). No one would ever say that Will Champlain, James Wolpert etc..can't sing. Joshua is more limited, but he still stays on pitch..which again is different from the Idol WGWG. Now, I would hate to see The Voice go down the same road as Idol, where that contestant wins every year. But I don't think it will. Matt was the strongest one they've ever had, and he still didn't win because Craig was a better singer, IMO. (Chris was too, but song choice..) edit: I want to touch on The White part. First of all..they were all white (and if they weren't, they weren't given that same benefit.) But personally, the whole thing irked me because it legit turned into "white male privilege" on idol. Everyone else had to be 10X better to have about a five percent chance of beating that contestant.
-
To me, there's an actual genre associated with WGWG. It's like a cross between alt/indie rock singersongwriter and folk. Think John Mayer or Damien Rice. I don't consider Corey a WGWG. I just consider him a mediocre country singer. Sawyer has a different sound to him. There have been some god ones. (Will Champlain) and Some not so good ones (let me get out the list of Idol winners.)
-
It bothers me when there's a gender switch too. Sing the song as written. ESPECIALLY if it's a Beatles song.
-
I thought it was a pretty good song to be honest. Kind of a combination of pop/alt/rock. Republic seems to like him and Chris, so it'll be interesting to see how well they do.

Broadway is a part of the entertainment industry, but it's not the entirety of the entertainment industry. Darren Criss: Film Actor, Stage actor, broadway actor, television actor, pianist, guitarist, percussionist, plays the mandolin and harmonica as well, singer (touring and recording), songwriter, dancer And despite people making a list of what people are involved in, it's still not as diverse as Darren's. And that's what I was talking about. I'm not saying other young starts aren't multi-talented. I'm saying Darren's list is extensive. It's to the point where I don't know where he'll end up in his career..(I still think Disney songwriter might be the best place for him, but that's just my opinion.) I think you could argue it's not necessarily a good thing. That perhaps if he had focused in a few areas instead of going everywhere he'd be better. But an entertainer that acts across all mediums, sings, dances, writes, and plays 5 instruments...I don't think that's as typical as some are making like. -

But I'm not talking about in the context of Broadway, I'm talking about in the context of the entertainment industry. How many young actors or actresses are involved in writing music, performing music (vocally and with instruments), theatre, film, and tv? Serious question because I really don't know of that many. And I think that makes him rare in that regard. And despite what people here think, he does get a lot of praise from a lot of different outlets from all of these forms of entertainment. So I don't think calling "good" in all of those areas is hyperbole or OTT. Now, that's in a lot of ways irrelevant for his role as Hedwig. But I could see where someone getting to know Darren might be impressed with all that he is involved in. Oh, and Adam Lambert would be the dream casting for Hedwig. I don't know that there's a better entertainer/role match out there, anywhere. -
Kim's Creep was clearly influenced by Haley's Creep..just because that got so popular otherwise how in the world do you just randomly come up with "Let's do a jazz cover of Creep." But Kim definitely did it differently and Haley's is a lot better. (Even though Kim's was pretty good.) Bad song choice from Meghan. You don't shout that song. Bad song choice from Hannah. People are going to forget that. Corey was as mediocre as ever. But India..that was easily my favorite performance from her. I thought she was just breathtaking. It was also Sawyer's best live performance version. Him and Gwen were so cute tonight too. I thought Koryn did a good job, but I prefer her so much more in rock. edit: Also I want to comment on Usher. It's amazing, in the whole five minutes he was on the show..he helped the audience make a personal connection with Joshua in ways that Adam hasn't done all season. They all better hope he doesn't come back because he'd dominate.
