Spartan Girl November 15, 2018 Share November 15, 2018 I didn't want a live-action Dumbo, let alone one directed by Tim Burton, but this looks good. Possibly one of the best films Burton has done in a while. Is...is this what hope feels like? "Baby Mine" never fails to break me. 1 Link to comment

Dee March 13, 2019 Share March 13, 2019 Dumbo first reactions trumpet movie as 'dazzling' and 'whimsical,' and Tim Burton's 'best in years' Quote This is a banner year for Disney’s live-action remakes, with Aladdin and The Lion King on the way and a new Lady and the Tramp set to debut on Disney’s upcoming streaming service. But first up is Tim Burton‘s spin on Dumbo, which had its world premiere in Los Angeles on March 11. The first reactions to the film have hit Twitter, and are largely positive, with many calling it a return to form for Burton. “It’s a beautiful and whimsical movie, starring a CGI elephant with so much heart,” Gamespot’s Chris E. Hayner said, adding that “it’s the best Burton’s been in years.” Several critics and journalists also praised the film’s visual elements, particularly the production design and the CGI title character, as well as its pro-animal rights message. There were some dissenting voices, however. IGN’s Tom Jorgensen noted, “Despite some great visuals, a very fun Michael Keaton performance, and an adorable baby pachyderm, the movie never really gets you caring as much about what’s going on as the original. The human stories feel undercooked and it really rains on the parade.” Link to comment

kiddo82 April 2, 2019 Share April 2, 2019 (edited) I was disappointed overall. Some of the circus scenes at Dream Land were stunning and there were touches that I liked (like the bubbles as an homage to the Pink Elephants on Parade scene and the Michael Buffer(!) cameo) but I just thought it was dull. When you spend most of the movie fantasizing about the honest trailer that's not usually a good sign. The one part that I was really looking forward to was the Baby Mine scene and it felt really glossed over. It lacked all the emotional weight of the cartoon and it was as if Burton only included it because he knew people would be looking for it. I agree that Devito and Keaton made the most of what they were given to do. Edited April 2, 2019 by kiddo82 Link to comment

After they based the entire friggin ad campaign around that song???? Good lord- outside of letting Burton do more weird circus stuff, nothing about this project makes any sense. Link to comment
Spartan Girl April 20, 2019 Share April 20, 2019 So I saw it. The CGI elephant was definitely the standout and the visual effects were gorgeous. Honestly this was the most non-Tim Burton Tim Burton movie he's ever made; aside from the creepy circus part, it didn't really feel like his style. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. But hey, at least he didn't give it the Alice in Wonderland treatment. And the actress that sang Baby Mine did it beautifully. 1 Link to comment
Scarlett45 November 17, 2019 Share November 17, 2019 Finally watching this on Disney+. Upon my first viewing of this movie at the age of 3 I burst into tears when they seperated Dumbo from his mother. I was not a child that cried about anything, at first my Mom was confused and then horrified because she was afraid I was scared for life (I was not)🤣. I’m only slightly more composed than I was at 3. Baby Mine still breaks me. It’s just too much. 2 Link to comment
