Halting Hex May 12, 2019 Share May 12, 2019 Wow, May 12 was busy! (Or I suppose August 12th, if one holds to the "nine-month gestation period", as a rule). Ironic that Maggie Walsh was born on the exact same day as the "strong father figure" she was convinced Buffy lacked. One of the most intriguing set of "same day births" was that the actors who played the parents on Family Ties (Michael Gross, Meredith Baxter) were born on the exact same day…June 21,1947. (Gross went on to guest as Ted Mosby's dad on How I Met Your Mother, which connects him to the Buffyverse not merely via Alyson, but because the character's ex-wife went on to marry "Clint" [Harry Groener].) Halting Hex May 16, 2019 Share May 16, 2019 (edited) I just hope that second picture isn't the puppy that Angel nails "to the—" per BB&B. While David may be chasing the Michael Landon Series Regular longevity record of 27 seasons in the credited cast of various shows— (as noted before: Landon did Bonanza [14 seasons], Little House on the Prairie [with Dean "Hank Summers" Butler as Almanzo Wilder; 9 seasons] and Highway to Heaven [4 seasons]; David has two seasons on BtVS [Angel is only recurring in S1], five seasons of Angel, 12 (!) seasons of Bones, and two of SEAL* Team on his ledger thus far; a current total of 21, with S3 of ST on order for the fall *-I originally failed to use the all-caps here, forgetting momentarily that a show about a team of seals would most likely be far different from David's current one about a team of SEALs. Although, ironically, that hypothetical pinniped-focused series is one I'd probably be more likely to watch…) —but David is also chasing another longevity mark; his father, David Thomas Boreanaz (David is simply David Boreanaz, no middle name), better known as "Dave Roberts", put in 27 years' service of his own as a weatherman for WPVI-TV, channel 6 in Philadelphia. (As Channel 6 is known for "Action News", Dave brought you "Accu-weather", as "Action Weather" might have been a bit of an oversell, sometimes.) After an internship with an affiliated station in Buffalo (where David was born), Dave was originally the weekend/relief weatherman, backing up the iconic "wacky" weatherman Jim O'Brien. Spoiler O'Brien (born James Oldham) was tragically killed in a skydiving accident in 1983, leaving Dave "Roberts" the lead weather job…and also leaving behind another future television fixture, his daughter Peri Gilpin (O'Brien and his wife had divorced; "Gilpin" is Peri's stepfather's surname), later to achieve fame as Roz on Frasier. I've always been amused by the coincidence of David and Peri both achieving success so far from the newsroom out on City Line Avenue, even if we never got that "Roz hires Angel" crossover episode that would have tied all the Philadelphia threads together. (But as a bit of second-hand Bufferation, let's note that Peri spent 11 seasons co-starring with Kelsey Grammer, who's currently in Danny Strong's Proven Innocent, alongside familiar demonspawn Vincent Kartheiser. So that's 3 for Peri to David, even without the RL connection, and 4 to BtVS via David.) So it's only a few more years until David can put not only Michael Landon, but his own dad (still going strong at age 83) in the endurance rearview mirror. Maybe he is immortal, after all. 34 minutes ago, Loandbehold said: Aww, a 2004 picture of wee little puppet Angel. Unpopular opinion: I couldn't stand Smile Time, and turned it off after Act 2. So by starting the episode in Act 2, I got the chance to: Thrill as Angel is embarrassed to let Harmony know he's been turned into a puppet! Tingle as Angel is embarrassed to let Wes/Fred/Gunn know he's been turned into a puppet! Stop Giving a Shit as Angel is embarrassed to let the W&H employees know he's been turned into a puppet! Halting Hex May 28, 2019 Share May 28, 2019 Other members of Team 5/28, Bufferated: Ian Fleming created James Bond, who has been portrayed by Pierce Brosnan, whose eyes Wesley's allegedly resemble. But more famously by Sean Connery, who was in First Knight with that same Alexis Denisof. Elisabeth Filarski Hasselbeck co-hosted The View with Whoopi Goldberg, who was in Ghost with Vincent "Uncle Enyos" Schiavelli. Carey Mulligan was in An Education with James McAvoy, who suddenly finds his career reduced to playing Professor X in X-films like the upcoming Dark Phoenix with Sophie Turner, who was on Game of Thrones with Iain Glen, who was on a British episode of Law & Order with Jamie Bamber, who was in Battlestar: Galactica with Edward James Olmos, who was in Miami Vice with John Diehl, who was on Point Pleasant with Adam Busch (although I don't think they shared any scenes). And yes, there's almost certainly a quicker route. Madison Reed is the half-sister of Victoria Justice, who co-starred in Victorious! with Elizabeth Gillies, who is in Dynasty with Grant Show, who (again) was on Point Pleasant with Adam Busch. (They had lots of scenes together. And even some HoYay.) "Little" Marco Rubio, who thought that implying that Donald Trump had a small penis was a winning debate technique, was in various 2016 Republican Presidential Debates with fellow 5/28er Rudy "A Verb, A Noun, and '9/11'" Giuliani, who was in Law & Order episode 11.01 ("Endurance"), where Nick Chinlund played the defense attorney, as noted when we had Chinlund here. (Angie Harmon was in the regular cast then. Halting Hex May 29, 2019 Share May 29, 2019 (edited) More 5/28- Jim Thorpe, "The Greatest Athlete on the Face of this Earth", ended up doing bit parts like his uncredited spot in White Heat, which starred James Cagney, who was in Ragtime with Elizabeth McGovern, who was in Once Upon a Time in America with Darlanne "How is she DEAD???" Fluegel, who was in To Live and Die in L.A. with William E. Petersen, who starred in C.S.I: Criminally Silly Investigations with Marg Helgenberger, who was on China Beach with Jeff Kober. Jerry West, NBA all-time great and model for the league's logo, finally won a championship when joined by Wilt Chamberlain (who went to high school with my mother…whom I don't think was one of his 20,000 paramours…), who was in Conan the Destroyer with Olivia D'Abo, who was on The Wonder Years with Fred Savage, who was in The Princess Bride with Mandy Patinkin, who was on Criminal Minds with various people who were still on the show years later when Nick Brendon was recurring. Hunter "Patch" Adams, noted quack, was the subject of a movie where he was played by Robin "Cloyingly 'Uplifting' Movies are My Jam!" Williams, who co-starred in The Crazy Ones with SMG. (I loved Robin…but wow, was he in a lot of crap.) Zelda Rubenstein, of Poltergeist fame, was later a regular on Picket Fences, with Kelly "Norman Pfister" Connell. James Harris, better known as "Kamala the Ugandan Giant", wrestled in the WWF (now WWE) with Randy "Macho Man" Savage, who was once a minor-league baseball player named Randy Poffo, who in 1973 was managed by Jimmy Piersall, the subject of Fear Strikes Out, where he was played by (the notably non-athletic) Anthony Perkins, who was in Psycho with Simon Oakland, who was on Kolchak: The Night Stalker with Darren McGavin, who was in From the Hip with John Hurt, who was in Alien with Sigourney Weaver, who was in Galaxy Quest with Robin Sachs. Halting Hex May 29, 2019 Share May 29, 2019 Eek! All of that, and I somehow left out Glenn Quinn! Sorry, tiny Irish loser! So, sure I could just do the easy bit of noting that Glenn co-starred on Angel with David and Charisma, or go outside the 'verse to mention that he was on Roseanne with Sarah Chalke who had about a year's worth of How I Met Your Mother with Alyson, but that's too simple. Why take two steps when twenty will do? So…Glenn Quinn was on Roseanne with Sara Gilbert, who co-hosted The Talk with Julie Chen, who still hosts Big Brother, which waaaaay back when was won by Dr. Will Kirby, who was joined by several other ex-Houseguests in a BB-themed episode of Yes, Dear which starred Jean Louisa Kelly, who was in an excellent episode of Law & Order (9.06, "Scrambled") where the defense attorney was played by David Garrison, who was on Married…with Children with Christina Applegate, who was in Jessie with Liza Snyder, who is currently starring in the late Rob des Hotel's Man with a Plan, alongside Kali Rocha. There you go…four separate networks and a side trip into talk shows and competitive reality, and still right back home. Doyle and Halfrek would have made a lovely couple, don't you think? 1 Link to comment
