Chris in his guest spot from S2 of Charmed, "Animal Pragmatism"

tumblr_llwtok94qR1qijnffo1_1280.jpgA

As a snake given human form by silly college girls dabbling in magic, one of the first things Chris has to learn is to not let his, er, snake hang loose.  Making for an entertaining episode for some viewers…and reminding Christopher that his WB contract to be a piece of meat was meant rather literally.

(He does become suitably menacing as the episode goes along, thus justifying the Halliwells' intervention. Not that Phoebe [Alyssa Milano] might ever need much justification to check out the Big Snake on Campus, but even so.)

Rowr!  You cleaned up nicely, Billy Fordham!  (Maybe he just needed time to grow into those ears?)

Too often overshadowed by tomorrow's honoree (and I don't mean Ellie Goulding, Sandy Koufax, or LeBron James), but deserves a salute of his own.

(Remember, when Jason went on to star in the original Roswell, he was joined in the cast by Brendan Fehr.  Which, as far as surnames go, would seem an unlikely pehr.)

Speaking of Friday's birthday boy, for whomever has lost (or never had) interest in tonight's Super Bowl, ABC is counter-programming with reruns of Celebrity Jeopardy!  from January, including an episode featuring Seth at 8PM ET/7 PM CT.

(Not to bag hugely, but I'm always surprised Seth is such a celebrity.  I know Family Guy has been on forever, but that's animated.  Are voice actors really big news?  I don't see Dan Castellanata [Homer Simpson, The Simpsons] getting this treatment.

Robot Chicken has its niche audience, but I still don't actually know what it is.  I think that's animated, too.

Seth's been in a number of films, but what's his star-making hit?  Idle Hands?  Old Dogs?  Without a Paddle?  Knockaround Boys?  When the Scooby-Doo sequel [I can't even recall the title off-hand] is your big hit, that's not a great catalog, IMO.

And of course this series…which has been off the air for 21.5 years and where Seth was in a whopping 39 episodes, barely 25% of the series.

I wish Seth all the best, but somebody is looking out for him, IMO.)

WHAT?????????????????????????????

Noooooooooooo!!!!!   😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

How? What? How?

Sarah must be devastated.  First Shannen, now this.

(Okay, Shannen was 8 months ago.  But still.)

Off to read the news.  Only 39.  JFC.

ETA:  Drugs, I guess.  Damn it, it's too soon for this sort of shit.

(And everybody who had Nick in the Death Pool can suck it.)

I mean, too bad about Angelo Spizzirri or whomever, but this is way too soon to be losing main cast!

I think what celebrity Seth Green has is largely thanks to Buffy, but also to the three Austin Powers movies in which he co-starred. "Scott Evil" was a pretty memorable role. He has stayed active in the business as a writer, producer, and voice actor, and still does occasional live-action work.

Moreover, he has been at this since childhood. He was in The Hotel New Hampshire starring Jodie Foster, Rob Lowe, and Beau Bridges at age 10 (or slightly younger — it came out the year he turned 10), and followed up soon enough after with Radio Days and My Stepmother is an Alien. He was also in the original adaptation of Stephen King's It, which was "just" a TV miniseries, but it was a widely watched and memorable one. Gen X and Millennials grew up with Seth.

Also though, Celebrity Jeopardy is not some crown jewel in the American TV landscape. They didn't turn down Denzel Washington, or Leonardo DiCaprio, to get Seth Green. They get "celebrities" who are either famous for being smart (Neil deGrasse Tyson), or those who are confident enough (either in their intellects, or just in general) to play a somewhat dumbed-down version of Jeopardy, for a charity which matters to them.

Look at the contestant list for the latest iteration of the game show. Seth is far from the most "WHO?" name on there: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celebrity_Jeopardy!_(American_game_show)

It's a tribute to the Ageless Lawson that those pictures in the 9-grid are out of chronological order, but you can only tell that (bar the Saved by the Bell shot ) by looking at the show identifiers, not the pics themselves.

And, speaking of ageless, happy 51 to Aly, still bathing in the blood of virgins herself!  Evidence of my own to follow.

And if you think that is all stardust and special effects, here's Aly arriving at the studio, a year later:

October 27, 2024.  The woman is 50, people!  She looks like Willow in grad school, after a late night of studying.  Ye gods.

(No idea why she was there; she wasn't connected to the show and if she was supporting Tori Spelling out of teen-drama solidarity, she was weeks too late.  [And Tori is close friends with SMG, not Aly, anyhow.]. But still looking great.)

Huh.  I wonder if Ruthie and Whistler celebrated together.

(I'd wonder the same about Conchata and Max in 1998, since Go Fish comes right before the Becomings and March is generally finale-shooting time, but as I've noted in those threads, apparently Max was a last-minute hire and they only had him for a certain amount of time [hence his limited shooting schedule], so it's IMO unlikely he was just chilling around the set and splitting a cake with Conchata.)

***********

Although I was never a fan of Conchata's (as I've written elsewhere, she certainly wasn't the only reason I never watched Two and a Half Men, but her presence was hardly a draw), I do feel bad knowing that she put in 12 years' work and only got five years to enjoy all those paychecks in retirement.  (And that assumes she was reasonably healthy before her passing, rather than in decline.). Gather ye off-days whilst ye may, I guess.

I also didn't know that Melanie "Joss Wanted Me to Be Willow" Lynskey was on Conchata's show. (She played the crazy neighbor who both dated and stalked various male characters…wow, definitely a skip for me.). I knew about Amber Tamblyn, but not her.  Huh.

Great observation, I had no idea Melanie Lynskey played that crazy neighbor Rose,  (I actually liked her character on the show) was the actress mentioned who had tried out for Willow's part.  I was never a fan of Conchetta Ferrell, but Max Perlich was excellent in BtVS, wished he had shown up in more episodes. Will have to look for more of his work.

Now that is my flavor of crazy!  (No offense to Melanie.)

Juliet's mother Barbara Bain still looks as perfectly striking as she did in her Mission: Impossible days, I see in that later photo.  Here's another of them together:

(Bain and Martin Landau divorced before Juliet became prominent, so I've yet to see a pic of the adult Juliet with both of them.)

I was pleasantly surprised to see that Bain is still with us, having celebrated her 93rd birthday last September.  (And apparently still has her faculties, since she gave an interview.)

Here is Juliet with a costar from a play she did at a local theater in LA:
