As for the men's special....the bad English grammar, diction and pronunciation aside, I LIKED their man talk. Don't know if I'd watch a show with THEM at the center, but I like their  chemistry and 'brotherhood.'

 

Todd -- genuinely nice guy

Peter -- would be likable, if her werent' such a douchebag

Gregg -- a non factor

Apollo -- his comments were very telling....

 

How can I put this re Phaedra and Apollo.....so people don't misunderstand me....
She knew him before he went to prison right? (or at least has known him a long time, right?)

I wonder IF, just maybe, there wasn't a time when Apollo COULD have been back on the straight and narrow (assuming he ever was).
And that another woman, not Phaedra, COULD have been the woman for him, and made the difference.

((And for all we know Phaedra may have her own shady past, IF what the Angela? girl who wrote a book about her is telling the truth. IF that's so, then Pharda and Apollo BOTH have their own 'legal issues." And in that case she wouldn't have been the best one to straighten him out...because she may have had her own shadiness.))

So, I'm NOT saying Apollo isn't ultimately the one who chooses right or wrong.
But -- in GENERAL -- the love of the RIGHT partner -- CAN make the difference between the other partner choosing one path or another.
And that for whatever reason -- her upbringing, her personality, or whatever, SHE just isn't the one for him.

Maybe she has been a bitch all along. THAT is certainly NOT the way to build up your man. When HE THINKS he's gotten you this GREAT present -- you don't turn your nose up at it -- and say you don't want it. I can see WHY Apollo was hurt. Lots of men would be. Degrading his effort?.......if THAT"S how you treat the people you love, I'd hate to see how you treat people you DON'T care about. (And to be fair maybe she had concerns about where the money came from to PAY FOR all that car.)

Now.....maybe Apollo just IS the scum of the earth, and a criminal to his core -- who never did want to do an honest day's work. None of us knows that.

But Apollo did have a personal trainer business, right? or he wanted to be a personal trainer. And unless that was just a cover, and some BS that he just threw out there...I want to know did Phaedra encourage him to do better, to better himself -- and do it honestl?. Or was she always a bitch and critical of him behind the scenes....and condescending and insulting and dismissive as we've seen her be? And that's CERTAINLY no way to get someone to turn their life around.

We only see a little of that on TV....imagine LIVING with that 24/7.  We'd all be sick of her.

I wonder WHY they're they're together....He says the sex has always been good....and she was pregnant before they got married, right?
I wonder if neither one of them really WANTED to be together, but ....once the 'church girl' got pregnant and had to -- or they chose to -- get married -- or she threatened that he wouldn't see his kids and sort of forced him into it -- that was all she wrote. They became a married couple that never intended to get married. I just don't see any LOVE, or TRUE affection. Oh I see kissing and a lot of lip service (no pun intented)...but it doesn't seem like they WANT to be together.

It started off on the wrong foot...and has never been able -- for WHATEVER reason -- to overcome the circumstances of how they started off.

I don't think Apollo could overcome his criminal past because he really didn't want to. The lure of making fast money via illegal means seemed easier to him than working an honest job or starting a business.

I worked as a prison nurse for a while, and one thing that really struck me was that most criminals are pretty stupid. They do the same things over and over again and when they get caught, they've got a million and one excuses why it's somebody else's fault.

I did enjoy the men's special, though. They were pretty frank. The grammar, though! They must all have something against the letter S.

I don't get the issue with grammar; this isn't an English class.  I have never made a decision to like or dislike someone because of the way they speak...or is that spoke?  Kindness matters more to me.

I'm not saying how one speaks says anything about the KIND of person one is at one's core....You can be the kindest most thoughtful person in the world and speak poorly. 

 

But....people judge you by the way you speak....pure and simple....and one preemption is that one is uneducated when a person's English is poor.

Doesn't mean you can't be uneducated and accomplish great things.....but the poor English is still noticed.

I don't really care about the grammar or pronunciation of the people on this show. Gregg sounds like some of my Southern relatives. I don't judge or make assumptions about people, positive or negative based on pronunciation.

 

I wouldn't want to be married to any of them but I like the dynamic between the men.

 

I couldn't get over the struggle club atmosphere. Peter is really trying to make the Bar One tv show happen. You sir, are no Lisa Vanderpump. However, I'm rooting for him to get his spin off so he can keep his hand out of Cynthia's pockets.

 

Apollo just doesn't give a flying fuck anymore. I want to laugh at him but I feel sorry for Ayden and Mr. President. I bet Phaedra wishes she could put a muzzle on him. I predict she will file for divorce when he's in after a few months.

 

Todd has done a complete 180. He's loving the limelight. I want to like him but in the back of my mind I question how attracted to Kandi he would be if she wasn't rich & famous.

Bravo is really giving Peter and Bar One a chance to happen.  I guess Peter is willing to allow them to film there anytime.    There must have been 5 scences there at least this season and now the Husband's special.   

 

It seemed so staged that the same girl was "dancing" in the background the entire special.

Todd has done a complete 180. He's loving the limelight. I want to like him but in the back of my mind I question how attracted to Kandi he would be if she wasn't rich & famous.

I don't really doubt his intentions toward Kandi, but I have also noticed that he has gotten a LOT more comfortable in front of the cameras. I also find it interesting that he still seems to wear his "producer" hat when onscreen. I can kind of see him guiding things, like with the questions about marriage. He was framing the questions to make the men respond in an open way. He is adapting well, and typically seems natural/comfortable in the scenes. I wonder if he reacts differently about Mama Joyce off camera or if he is just that mellow/deliberate of a person.

It's not even just BRAVO. I have seen it on VH1 with Love and Hip Hop Atlanta, and I think a couple of other shows. He is definitely comping that venue for airtime.

Well, plus he's dumb.  "Juvial."  "I'm not restricted by a sector of the time scale."  You get the picture.  Dude is completely inarticulate and seems just fine with that.  His three year old has a larger vocabulary.
