Since I appear terminally unable to locate thrads or forums on this site (or even a proper search for same), I'm going to post this here. Perhaps a kind member can direct me to the proper place.

CDC and public health officials in several states are investigating an outbreak of E. coli O121 infections linked to multiple brands of recalled organic whole bagged carrots and baby carrots sold by Grimmway Farms. Carrots on store shelves right now are likely not affected, but check what you have at home.

Here's the list of recalled carrots.

In response to the carrot recall, Fabalish announced a recall of its Kickin’ Carrot Falafel Bites.  Notice here.

There was also a ground beef recall this week, but the beef was sent to restaurants, not stores.  If you're ordering a burger from a restaurant, you may want make sure they know about the recall and have made sure they are not serving any of the recalled beef.  It's from Detroit-based Wolverine Packing Co. (which recalled nearly 170,000 pounds of ground beef it distributed to restaurants across the country).

Kirkland (Costco) organic eggs recalled for potential salmonella contamination

Quote

These units of the Kirkland Signature Organic Pasture Raised 24-Count Eggs were distributed into 25 Costco stores in the States of Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee beginning November 22, 2024.

The Organic Pasture Raised 24-Count Eggs with UPC 9661910680 are packaged in plastic egg cartons labeled with Kirkland Signature on the top. The recall only applies to units with the Julian code 327 and a Use By Date of Jan 5, 2025, which can be found printed on the side of the plastic egg carton. No other products are impacted by this recall.

The recall was initiated after the company determined that eggs not intended for retail distribution were instead packaged and distributed in retail packaging. Additional supply chain controls and retraining are being put in place to prevent recurrence.

To date there are no illness complaints. This recall is being done in cooperation with the FDA.

Not exactly a recall, but a bagel store near my apt. on the Upper West Side of NYC just closed because of terrible health violations.  People are "losing it," according to the Times.  This place always had a ridiculous line.  Like Yogi Berra, I would avoid it--"it's so crowded nobody goes there."  I hate stores with cult followings for ordinary foodstuffs.  I can get good bagels at three other places within the same radius.

Here is a gifted link.

I do not belong to Costco.

I wouldn't if I could only go evenings or weekends -- too crowded!  But since I have the flexibility to go at off-peak times, it's well worth it for how many things I can get there at a better price than anywhere else around.  And they treat their employees well, so I don't have to worry that my savings are coming at their expense.

I dont live near enough to a Costco to make it worth while. That’s another reason.

I've been inside a Costco exactly once.  I'm never going in again.  I AM a member of a grocery delivery service where I get fresh produce delivered weekly.  Some items are locally farmed/grown in their warehouse.

This is a Don't Let Your Pet Eat That! recall warning:

After a cat in Oregon died from bird flu, due to consuming food contaminated by the virus, Northwest Naturals recalled its Feline Turkey Recipe raw frozen pet food.

Details on the recall here (from the manufacturer), but basically if you have this with a sell-by date between May 21 - June 23, 2026, throw it out; that's the infected batch.  Northwest Naturals is based in Portland, and distributed across the country.

Personally, I'd throw any of it out -- not sick, dead.  And the causation is not speculative; as this article in The Guardian details, the cat was indoor only and the virus in the food and the virus in the cat were a genetic match:

The Oregon agriculture department issued a notice saying that tests confirmed a genetic match between the virus in the raw and frozen pet food and the infected cat.

“We are confident that this cat contracted H5N1 by eating the Northwest Naturals raw and frozen pet food,” said Dr Ryan Scholz, an ODA state veterinarian.

“This cat was strictly an indoor cat; it was not exposed to the virus in its environment, and results from the genome sequencing confirmed that the virus recovered from the raw pet food and infected cat were exact matches to each other,” Scholtz added.
