auntjess May 9, 2014 Share May 9, 2014 Guys, I want a place to talk about my favorite type of show, some are in reruns, some only show up occasionally. If you're a fan of Mike Hollmes or Bryan Baeumler, if you love the Brothers on Call, or the Homewrecker, this is the place. A couple of weeks ago, I was thrilled to see that my DVR had set some new-to-me Leave It to Bryan shows, but then they were dropped, and we got yet another showing of Bryan and Sarah building the most ostentatious "cottage" not owned by royalty. auntjess May 14, 2014 Author Share May 14, 2014 Those still show up occasionally. Tall woman named Kristen, or something like that.I've got about 90 Holmes on my DVR, and still watch one a couple of times a week. What I'd love to see reruns of, is Buy Me, with "the man in black" as the voice of doom narrator. 1 Link to comment
auntjess May 15, 2014 Author Share May 15, 2014 I don't remember which show, but remember the woman who went through all her ex-boyfriends on her flip. One would work for a while, then they'd fight, and she'd get another one in. Link to comment
BellaLugosi May 16, 2014 Share May 16, 2014 OMG I used to LOVE Property Ladder! And was so frustrated when they ignored her advice. Link to comment
auntjess May 16, 2014 Author Share May 16, 2014 I was watching Sell This House: Extreme, and this couple in a small town in Louisiana needed to get $125k for their small 2br/1ba, 900 sq ft home. They improved to maybe $150k, BUT they were moving to Washington, and I think they mentioned Seattle.Unless they've got money stashed away, and are walking into high-paying jobs, wouldn't the difference be infinitesimal, dealing with Seattle prices? Or so it seems, from HH I've seen there. And my closest brush with fame, was when I saw my dresser on The Unsellables. They painted it and kept it. Link to comment
auntjess May 23, 2014 Author Share May 23, 2014 As of 11PM ET Thursday night, 5/22, DIY has marathons scheduled tomorrow, first of Elbow Room with Chip Wade.Next, a bunch of Leave It to Bryan shows, though I think these are all ones I remember, and not the newer ones they scheduled a while back, then never showed.Last, and through the night, a lot of Decked Out, with Paul LaFrance. It's a Canadian show, and Kate Campbell, formerly of Mike Holmes' crew, now works for Paul. Link to comment
auntjess June 2, 2014 Author Share June 2, 2014 (edited) Here's the place for outside-the-house how-to shows, like Curb Appeal, Decked Out, Desparate Landscapes, and Yard Crashers, and anything else of this ilk. I've just noticed that DIY (or HGTV?) is starting to run Paul LaFrance's other show, Disaster Decks, which I find more interesting that his Decked Out, because it starts with a crumbling deck, and Paul and the crew show the homeowner how to do the needed work. Paul's good interacting with homeowners, like Bryan is, and is a pretty funny guy. Kate Campbell, formerly of Mike Holmes' crew, now works for Paul. I've seen a few Ahmed Yard Crashers recently, so I've saved them. Meant to add that Ahmed Hassan will be on the Today show Wednesday, according to his Facebook post. That's why I thought to make this to start with. Edited June 2, 2014 by auntjess Link to comment
auntjess June 2, 2014 Author Share June 2, 2014 No, this is my other, first love, genre. But some of the shows are pretty good, so give 'em a try. 1 Link to comment
Tonypitt June 8, 2014 Share June 8, 2014 Found this forum, aunthjess. Decked Out is the newest show my wife and I have started watching, although we may have seen all of them now. Wish he shared the costs of his projects. Link to comment
auntjess June 8, 2014 Author Share June 8, 2014 Glad you found it.I've also seen another of his shows, Disaster Decks, which starts out with an awful deck.I also started a topic for yard shows, called Meanwhile, Out in the Yard. http://forums.previously.tv/topic/8100-meanwhile-out-in-the-yard/?view=getnewpost Link to comment
auntjess June 17, 2014 Author Share June 17, 2014 And I see now the the topic I'd made for yard shows disappeared, so forget that link. Also, I see no option to edit that post. Link to comment
auntjess June 27, 2014 Author Share June 27, 2014 Another musician/rocker, Daryl Hall, has a reno show starting in July on DIY.Once in a while, I'll look at Vanilla Ice Project.I did like Rev Run's renovation, because his wife Justine was pretty funny. He now has a show on the Cooking network, Rev Run's Sunday Supper's which I watch because I know the people from the other show. auntjess July 12, 2014 Author Share July 12, 2014 I just started watching Rowhouse Showdown and took a break to forage.Suz, I don't know if it was always the case, but DIY and HGTV too, seem to change their morning schedules frequently, from what was posted the previous day. I stay up late, and usually check at 1 or 2am, but still find that I've missed a chance to tape a Bryan Baeumler or something else good. I like both of Paul Lafrance's shows, but Disaster Deck is my favorite, because he and the crew are funny with the homeowners. 1 Link to comment
nicepebbles July 13, 2014 Share July 13, 2014 I love to watch these shows for the house porn, tips and to see what idiots people can be sometimes. I used to watch Property Ladder regularly. Every once in a while I'll watch DIY Realities. Those people never fail to amaze me. It's like read a book, ask a professional, Google it for goodness sake. I love Elbow Room but it only seems to run in marathons in the morning. I catch every now and again. I way Chip Wade to do my house one day. 1 Link to comment
auntjess July 13, 2014 Author Share July 13, 2014 (edited) Chip Wade is so inventive, and does amazing things. He would be a great person to have work on your house. The only thing I wouldn't want is to have a room that would open to the the outside, with no screens.Seems like you'd never get rid of all the bugs that got in, or down here, frogs or lizards. And Suz, I won't say much on Rowhouse Showdown 'til you catch up.The reruns of the first one seem to be everyday sometime, and also on Wednesday, when the new show is.And unlike this year's Brother vs Brother, there are people to root against. auntjess July 17, 2014 Author Share July 17, 2014 @Tonypitt, your were wondering about who pays what. Here's a casting call link from HGTV.ca, for several shows, and you can see how much money is needed to be on some of the shows.http://www.hgtv.ca/castingcall/#need-something-custom-built-decked-outs-paul-lafrance-is-bringing-his-one-of-a-kind-ideas-indoors 1 Link to comment
Tonypitt July 17, 2014 Share July 17, 2014 @auntjess, Thanks. Interesting that Bryan Baumler's renovation show indicates a homeowner contribution of $15k+. Would like to know how much Paul Lafrance's decks go for on Decked Out, but it looks like he's on to other types of HGTV adventures. Link to comment
auntjess August 7, 2014 Author Share August 7, 2014 The other day there was a mini-marathon of Leave It to Bryan, so I got to watch about 6 shows I'd never seen.In one of them, John McLendon, Mike's current landscaper, shows up to do work.I love spotting these celebrity(to me) cameos. Mike's plumber, Martin Wroblewski showed up on a Love It or List It once. I like John DaSilvia a lot, but I miss seeing all the details you get in an hour show. One thing I worried about in the new show this week, with the raw sewage and unsupported floor above, was that while he was having the area supported by a temporary for his workers, why hadn't he done this before the hazmat cleanup people worked. auntjess August 9, 2014 Author Share August 9, 2014 ,There's another mini-marathon of Chip Wade/Elbow Room on DIY on Monday, 1pm-6.Of course they may be the same ones you've already seen, because I'm not sure how many he made. Link to comment

auntjess September 8, 2014 Author Share September 8, 2014 I don't know. Of the old star shows on DIY, Rev. Run is the only one I liked, though I'd never listened to rap music. Vanilla Ice I've watched a couple of times, but I'm bored with palm trees. I can look out the window to see those. His Amish one bothered me, because they have lots of puppy mills. I really dislike Bronson Pinchot's voice.Daryl Hall's OK once in a while. Link to comment
chessiegal September 11, 2014 Share September 11, 2014 My Verizon Fios provider has made DIY channel available in HD. I'm a happy girl. 1 Link to comment
auntjess September 11, 2014 Author Share September 11, 2014 I never bother with HD. I don't notice that much difference, and I want to be able to click "record" at a moment's notice. HD shows take 3 times the space, or so Uverse says, and I've only got about 20% left as it is. But I love DIY, it's my go-to place. 1 Link to comment
Maharincess September 21, 2014 Share September 21, 2014 Does anybody remember the show Weekend Warriors? Homeowners would take a weekend to do a room or yard remodel. I don't remember which network it was on and I haven't seen it in years but it was one of my favorite home shows. Link to comment

auntjess October 31, 2014 Author Share October 31, 2014 If anyone in NY area is up for a renovation, Rescue My Renovation posted this on Facebook: We're casting for a new show! The show, to air on DIY Network, follows couples that are in over their heads with their renovations: homeowners with more than they bargained for – supplies, schedules, budgets, a lot of moving parts all caving in on them. They’re hoping to mold their dream homes, but they are in desperate need of help, and that’s where this show sets them straight. Are you overwhelmed with a renovation you started? We'll bring in someone to dissect your form and lend a hand to flip the failed projects to something you can be proud of. We'll get you back on track. As homeowners, you're going to get your hands dirty, but you'll also get the game plan to get to the finish line with the help of our host. If you'd like to be on the show, please send pictures of your current project to casting@boywonderproductions.net with the subject line "FIX THIS HOUSE." We are looking specifically for projects that have already started demolition. MUST BE LOCATED IN THE TRI-STATE AREA. We look forward to hearing from you! I thing the tri-state is NY, NJ, and either PA or CT. I think I remember him doing a show in the Philadelphia area. Link to comment
friendperidot November 1, 2014 Share November 1, 2014 Just read thru this thread & all the discussion on deck renovations reminded me of an episode on "While You Were Out" where the wife surprised the husband with a deck renovation (horrible) and he went ballistic! Link to comment
auntjess November 1, 2014 Author Share November 1, 2014 I don't remember that one. I do remember a yard makeover where they planted bamboo.I miss WYWO and Trading Spaces and In a Fix, and what were some of the other ones. Link to comment

I only watched that show a couple of times because the renovations were too fast and shoddy. I wondered if this ever happened! I am not surprised. He probably immediately saw that it had been done improperly. Edited November 1, 2014 by wings707 Link to comment

auntjess November 23, 2014 Author Share November 23, 2014 Ah, the joys of the innernets, especially social media. Yep. We're lucky it wasn't attributed to Lincoln. I had a friend who would post a lot of new agey sayings, and attribute them to Abraham. Finally, I had to challenge this, and say it really was not like anything in the Bible attributed to Abraham. It turns out she was quoting some guru of hers who went by Abraham. 1 Link to comment

auntjess January 5, 2015 Author Share January 5, 2015 Glad that Rev. Run is back for another season.I really enjoy interplay between Rev and his wife, Justine. They were changing a laundry room into a guest room, and I've found something new to add to my "if I win the lottery" list.I googled "what is the cost.." and I gather in the $10k range for the coolest hiding beds.http://resourcefurniture.com/product-category/product-collections/beds-storage-beds-product-collections/ 1 Link to comment
chessiegal January 5, 2015 Share January 5, 2015 I enjoy the Rev Run show too. He and his wife are a hoot, their banter is adorable. They had a show on CC that was fun too. Entertainers make for good TV since they are used to being in front of a camera or audience. Link to comment
