S05.E10: The Stuff Dreams Are M...

It was the casino (which Martha opposed) and in Walt's mind Nighthorse and the casino were the reason she was murdered.  Turns out that was not true but Nighthorse hasn't helped his case buy being obstructive and pulling dirty tricks like faking David Ridges' death.  Makes him look pretty shady.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I hate the idea of Vic and Travis.  He's got the maturity of a 10 year old, and is the exact opposite of Walt Longmire.  Besides, it cheapens Vic, I think, as she was sleeping with Eeamonn.  Seriously, how can someone who is nuts over a honorable, learned man like Walt fall for a fool like Travis.  I don't like that one at all.

I think it smacks of lazy storytelling. The writers really can't think of anything else to do with Vic besides give her a pregnancy? That it's an unplanned pregnancy doesn't make it more interesting to me. I'm really disappointed the writers seem to be going down this road.

I didn't mind she got pregnant, but with Travis?  I can't stand that guy and his immaturity.   Plus, as I said one, it cheapens Vic as she was already sleeping with Eeamonn, and there's still no doubt she's madly in love with Walt.  How could someone who is in love with an honorable, mature man like Walt, wants to sleep with an exasperating clown like Travis?

I guess all of this is to show us that Vic is a mess, but we knew that in season 1. I get they're living in a sparsely populated area, but there have to be better choices Vic can make than her boss, a co-worker, and the doofus in the mobile home a few doors down.

Maybe.  But Walt is a grown-up, and Travis acts like a child.   When I first started watching  the show recently, the thought of Walt and Vic didn't sit well with me, but they don't look bad together.  And, as a big Katee Sackhoff fan, seeing her with a guy the same age as I am kinda fills old guys like me with some hope.  :) (If I were single).

I think that Cady said it well when she told Henry, describing the choices of men in town, that "the bench isn't very deep".  But I don't think any of the three Vic is attracted to is right for her.  Her "love" of Walt seems more like a high school girl infatuation with a teacher - mooning over her idol.  I don't see any chemistry at all.  Of the three of them I think Eamonn was the best fit for her but he's obviously not interested.  Travis is, as we all know, a total doofus.  A goofy doofus.

I thought Walt's chemistry with Donna was great.  I loved the scene in the hospital waiting room where they were sitting comfortably with their legs touching.  And when he put his beloved hat on her head at the cabin.  Just nice, simple gestures of a couple that have a connection.

To each their own, but Travis?  Guy has never mentally grown up.   Vic is better than that.

It's been a while since I've watched, so my memory is fuzzy, but I thought Vic only slept with Travis once when they were both drunk.  Still not an ideal pairing, I agree, but I thought it was just a one-time mistake on her part.

That's true.  But she hasn't done much to blow him off since she found out she was pregnant.  Since he has the attention span of a gnat, it should have been easier for her to ditch him permanently if she'd wanted to.

"Attention span of a gnat."

Now that's funny!

I see Walt as Captain Ahab with Jacob being his Moby Dick. He  is so obsessed , even when proven wrong.

I don't know how these things work, but it would be nice if Walt, not that he would think of it, could donate his land as a nature conservancy in perpetuity, while maintaining lifetime tenanacy. That would permanently spike the developers' guns

I have always liked A Martinez, back to the days of him being Cruz Castillo on that soap, with Robin Wright.

I find it weird to see Barlow being such an awful man  I remember Gerald McRaney being always a good guy and this is such  a switch

The show, which I just binge watched over the past week, has maintained big ties with the book plots, although twisted things around  quite a bit. Less mystical stuff , and I feel like Walt and Henry and Cady have been diminished somewhat. I do like the other characters

I miss the mystical stuff as well and the humor, too.  The books are much lighter and funnier.  It's like having two separate Longmires - one the book and one the series.  And I love both so it's all good.  But Henry's truck on the series is a polar opposite from the Rezdawg of the books!

Not to mention that’s there’s zero sexual chemistry between them, and what the show forces feels creepy. This crap with Walt/Vic is really lessening how much I like the show. There were some moments a few episodes back, too, where I worried we were going to get a Cady/Henry pairing. That would’ve been worse, but Walt/Vic is still pretty bad.

I also hate the pregnancy storyline. Am I really to assume that Vic, who was married for years and managed not to get pregnant, is so careless and dumb she doesn’t use birth control? I hate that cliche. Yeah, Vic is kind of a mess, but she can take care of herself.

And good lord, I can’t stand Travis. I don’t find him charming at all. He’s overbearing and controlling, but bad at it so he also comes across as dumb.

And while I have only seen the first two episodes of Season 6 there seems to be way too many soulful looks between Vic and Walt.  I hope to heck these aren't heavy handed anvils for a pairing in the end.  That would ruin the entire series for me.  I know that there are a lot of people who feel the opposite but I see no chemistry either.  She's like a teenager drooling over her teacher. Walt and Donna had way  more chemistry between them.

I hate the idea of Vic and Walt, for all the reasons stated. Of course, by the end of this season I am disliking Walt so much that I didn't care one way or another.

I enjoyed the season finale. Walt's realization that he was in deep shit was nicely done. He has been driven by obsession and ignoring the warnings from the people who love him. I was surprised that he broke into the investigator's office and stole the files. Guess he was feeling desperate. At least, he tried to get Vic to step back from his mess. Of course, all that did was made him realize that he still loved her when she refused. I was glad that he and Donna ended things like adults. That relationship was going nowhere. I don't even think that slept together. And as usual by the time Walt decides to make a his move on Vic, she decides to move away from him after all his rejection. Argh.

I didn't like Vic getting sucked in by Gilbert, but I could see how she would be desperate to get rid of him. I have no problem with Vic being pregnant, I am just annoyed that baby isn't Walt's. Travis really is annoying. Katee Sackoff looked very pretty in this episode.

Jacob Nighthorse has become one of the most complex and enjoyable characters. I love his partnership with Henry. I am glad that they figured out that Malachi was behind the "Hector Lives." Also Mathias and Henry's new bond continues to bring goodness.

Poor Henry. Malachi laid a trap using the perfect bait; his compassion for his people. He should gotten a bodyguard like Jacob suggested.

This was a strong episode for Cady. I usually don't think much of her stories, but having her scenes with Jacob about Walt and Mandy were well done.

Dave continues to be hilarious. It is difficult to believe that Walt doesn't have tons of people who can be his character witness. What about Omar?

I have been binge watching the seasons made for Netflix the past couple of weeks.  I must say, they seem much better to me than those seasons made for cable TV.  I seem to recall people on the cable show commuting to clean houses from Durant to Aspen...  Ridiculous!

As someone somewhat familiar with northern Wyoming, I have to say that it is good to see that part of the world depicted on film.  Some of the issues the program has brought to the fore include the neglect of the FBI when it comes to policing major crimes on reservation lands and the poverty typical among natives. During the course of the run of the program, I believe the Violence Against Women Act finally passed Congress and changed for the better at least one of the shortcomings depicted on this show.

Although the series is evidently filmed in New Mexico, it really does look a lot like Wyoming, except maybe for the town square in Durant.  Most towns in that part of the world sprawl along the sides of a state or federal highway.

I do wonder how successful that casino would be ...  There just is not a major population center near enough to provide a regular flow of gamblers.

That said, I like the Greek tragedy suggestion about Walt.  I want him to be wrong about Jacob.  He has really always been a flawed man, but I do not want him to bring about his own destruction.

Gamblers will go just about anywhere and love new places. I live in a small town about 10 miles from a Chippewa casino in the middle of absolutely nowhere.  They are adding a multi-million dollar addition and hotel.

As do I.  He's his own worst enemy.  I wish he'd remember the "boots are too small" remark he made to Henry more often.

I forgot to mention that I love Jacob's house with its huge windows and bright light. Although given that his life is danger, you would think that he would lower the blinds.

I agree about Travis. He is a fool. To be fair, Vic had only had a one night stand with him. She didn't fall for him. He pretty much annoyed the hell out of her. I did like Eammon though. However, he was right that he was pawn between Walt and Vic.

I do think that the constraint of fitting the episode into an hour (well, actually it's way less than that since there are commercials) put a crimp on the production values when on cable. Netflix was able to really round out the characters a lot more since they could use whatever time they needed.

My biggest pet peeve - from spies, to cops, to criminals, no one seems to care that people can see in at night.

Just as an aside, house filmed as Jacob's is the famous Fir Tree house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Thanks for posting. Now I get why I love Jacob's house. I am not an architecture enthusiast, but I remember watching a show on Wright's style. I am really drawn to houses with unusual shapes, huge windows, and spacious rooms with stunning views and many of the houses that he designed have these characteristics.

Dedicated gamblers will bust an axle going down an abandoned logging trail if there’s a craps table or deck of cards at the other end.  And let’s not forget the tour buses - people are dying to get a ride on one!  ;>
