Kostgard May 2, 2016 Share May 2, 2016 I rewatched the episode this weekend because I only half-watched it earlier, and this time I tried to have some sympathy for Derrick after hearing that he was rejected by his mom after coming out, but...blergh. He's like nails on a chalkboard. How on earth does he have two partners? He just really seems like he's not great at...people. And interacting with people like a normal human. Maybe he's trying to turn it on for the cameras and it's not quite working but he's just fine off-camera. I don't know. But everything - in the workroom, his talking heads, him blathering on in Untucked as he was leaving - I was just like, "Derrick. Please, just stop. Okay? Just...stop." And the eyebrow situation was just a tragedy. I get that he was challenged to do his makeup differently, but like Naomi said, this stuff takes practice, and trying it out for the first time two hours before you hit the runway is not a good idea. Practice at night in your hotel room. Kim Chi's story is very sad. I do hope his mom can at least come to appreciate what an incredible artist he is. 2 Link to comment

If I may armchair psychoanalyze for a minute.....Derrick may be used to being a very, very, very big fish in a relatively small pond in Vegas. I'm sure he has his hangers on, maybe due to the fact that he has money. He may be used to being a very, very big deal, and being told he is amazing all the time....and imagined that Drag Race wouldn't be all that hard. And certainly not that he would be told that he wasn't the best at almost every turn. And to face the truth that he may not really be anyone except a replica of Brittany Spears. I wonder if people who seriously impersonate celebrities tend to lose who they are, or not develop as the years go by, because they are so reliant on another person. And I suspect that under the pressure of not being constantly loved and praised he turned into an ass. The feeling of rejection has to remind him of being rejected by his mother and the fact that he couldn't seem to just change one thing or another thing and get the praise he wanted. I do think Derrick is very pretty and cute as Brittany. But, she couldn't even be the pretty girl this year because Naomi Smalls is fucking amazingly gorgeous. Link to comment

But Derrick didn't have time to practice new eyebrow skills the night before because he was up ALL NIGHT decorating his corset due to his amazing attention to detail! 3 Link to comment
Corgi-ears May 4, 2016 Share May 4, 2016 But hey, at least Derrick picked out two colors for the corset that are analogous. (?!?!) 2 Link to comment
Dandesun May 5, 2016 Share May 5, 2016 Analogous colors on a color wheel are 3-4 colors all next to each other. So green/green-blue/blue-blue-violet, orange/orange-yellow/yellow -- that sort of thing. It's a legitimate method of color theory but I'd have to take a closer look at the bodice to see if Derrick really followed through with it. Probably should have been working on doing the eyebrows, though. I don't think anything was going to elevate the corset to anything that the other girls had going on. Link to comment
