Both displayed so-so lip synch skills (I saw both miss words or their timing was off), but I kept feeling like ND was trying to hard to be fun and sexy. 1 Link to comment
betsyboo February 6, 2016 Share February 6, 2016 Tim Tebow was much more personable than expected (I don't watch football, and while I am familiar with him and the craze surrounding his beliefs, I don't know too much about him.) I was pleased to see that he didn't take himself too seriously and was having a good time with it. I could have done without the girl in the front row LOSING HER MIND LIKE HE WAS ONE OF THE BEATLES, but he was nice to her, so kudos. He *is hot...and I feel dirty for saying it. ND was ok - also having fun - but I agree with Impish Tad Cooper above that she tried too hard. 2 Link to comment

I was underwhelmed by this episode. I agree that Nina Dobrev was trying to hard but I didn't think either of them did a great job with the lip syncing in general. 1 Link to comment
possibilities February 6, 2016 Share February 6, 2016 (edited) A good time was had by all, and they were about equally matched for both lip sync and surprisingly awkward dancing and general goofiness. I give them both credit for going all out in spirit, even though they both seemed kind of embarrassed by the situation. I think if we hadn't been treated to some of the truly amazeball performances we've been seeing in the past few weeks, tonight's show would have been plenty good enough. But the standard is so high now, I kind of feel bad for whoever is on the program who's not a total master. Also, they both seemed to be more focused on the choreography than the lip syncing, but they also both seemed to know the words and not be phoning it in at all, so I'm OK with it, because it seemed like nerves, not apathy. All I knew about Tebow before tonight was "he's a football player and a Christian." He came off very likable and... I want to say humble? approachable? Sweet? Just a really different persona than I expected. I have never watched Vampire Diaries but I remember Dobrev from her days on Degrassi. It took me a while to get over the shock at how tall she is. I don't know if she was really trying too hard, or if she just looked that way because Tebow was playing a different game. A lot of the people who do this show play up an aggressive rivalry and there have been some very provocative moves thrown back and forth. If Dobrev had been paired up with any of those players, she would not have seemed over the top. It looked to me like she was trying to "make it personal" because that's how the show often plays things. I still remember Krasinski and the "photo of your wife"-- after that, there's no reason to think that teasing your opponent, using what they're famous for in your dance, or trying to embarrass them a little with suggestive flirtation is out of bounds. It's just that Tebow was going for the soft romantic flirtation while Dobrev was going for the hard, scandalous flirtation, so it kind of fell a little flat. I liked that they left in the exchange with LL about how going out of your comfort zone is necessary and is ultimately how you win. Everyone seemed uncomfortable tonight, but also it's just a good idea in general, to look at things that way. Edited February 6, 2016 by possibilities 1 Link to comment

Also, how predictable it would be country music (although I suppose cheesy 80s music as the followup wasn't as obious). Ugh, this episode was shit. Dobrev was hardly at her best either. Just me, or waaay more annoying cuts to Chrissy during the performances than usual? Watching a few episodes of the UK version online made me realize even more how annoying Chrissy is. I mean the UK show is a bit lame too, but at least we don't get the pretense of... whatever the fuck Chrissy is supposed to be doing. Link to comment
