thewhiteowl September 12, 2015 Share September 12, 2015 A murder occurs with the opening of the casino, causing Walt to apologize to Nighthorse, for believing he was involved in both Walt's wife and Branch's death, in order to get his help. Lucien Connally also helps in solving the case, being in town to play at the casino. Link to comment
Clanstarling September 12, 2015 Share September 12, 2015 Happy to see Lucien back. I liked that I kept wondering whether or not he had it in for Walt until the end. Just the right amount of "damn you, you shot my brother" and "he deserved shooting." The case of the week didn't really engage me, but everything surrounding it did. Lucien's presence in the casino, Walt's "apology" to Nighthorse (and Nighthorse accepting it), and Ferg chasing down a naked guy. I'm sure the substitute deputy will be back, though there's something about that actor that always makes me think he'll turn bad at some point. But if Moretti syncs up with him instead of Walt, I'm happy. I thought I'd hate the Henry/Hector plot - but I think I'm loving it. Henry is very different from Hector, and his solutions are so smart and humane. I've always liked LDP, but as he's aged, he's really become an incredible actor. 7 Link to comment
Skycatcher September 12, 2015 Share September 12, 2015 Ferg chasing down a naked guy. I loved this "bit", and am somewhat amazed at what passes on Netflix. I was a bit stunned at one scene (not sure which ep.) of the guy peeing on the side of the road - totally real! 1 Link to comment
ljp September 13, 2015 Share September 13, 2015 I agree, the case of the week isn't necessarily the draw, it's the characters interactions around that. Enjoyed Lucien taking the role he did and how he's Super competently just getting stuff done. I'm not sure we got to know the temporary deputy enough to miss him or have much opinion one way or the other. Although I do feel another deputy in the office would be good for the cast, with branch gone plus the (I assume) increase police presence needed due to the new casino opening, 3 of them will be hard put to cover everything. I have to assume Cassino should bring people and money to town and increased police budget. Or at least it would in the real world? Is it just me or does there seem to be a real change in the music? I don't remember this show having music over scenes like it seems to now? Is it new or was I not paying attention? Whatever it is, I like the song choices and think work well. 2 Link to comment

You make a good point about the casino. Although the casino itself is on the reservation, and would be handled by Mathias and his men, there will certainly enough overflow into the town to require more deputies. I thought the music was new. I like it too. 1 Link to comment
fayster September 14, 2015 Share September 14, 2015 I really liked this episode...Walt comes to terms with so many things and - now that Martha's murder is solved - is ready to move on and maybe mellow, He apologizes to Nighthorse, he works with Mathias and Lucien. I was glad they didn't have some long drawn-out investigation into the death of dad Connally. Yeah...the case was just a placeholder but that's ok too. Agree on the music...I liked it. Also, I think they are showing that Ferg is quietly becoming more competent, which is good. 3 Link to comment
JackONeill September 14, 2015 Share September 14, 2015 They need another deputy, but I sure hope it doesn't go the way it seemed to in this episode, where Walt gets jealous because the new guy makes goo-goo eyes with Vic.That's one of the things i liked about Branch. Yes, he had his issues and he and Vic had some issues sometimes, they were really more like a big brother/little sister thing. I think that's more likely to develop than a love affair. 1 Link to comment
Clanstarling September 14, 2015 Share September 14, 2015 My take on Walt's objection didn't have to do with Vic (though I could have missed it because of my huge denial). To me he was more offended that he'd given his word - which he doesn't take lightly - and they jumped the gun making him look like he broke his word. I took the Vic jealousy thing to be more what the deputy decided was the case, because Walt didn't really bother to explain himself or his objections. But again....denial. LOL 4 Link to comment

LOL I've spent some time trying to understand the dynamic between Walt, Vic, and the temporary deputy. Walt has been very consistent in his character - and I agree that his major objection to the temporary deputy was that his decision to go public with the case and thus making it appear that Walt broke his word with Nighthorse. (IMHO Walt is oblivious to Vic's feelings and adolescent games) Vic's love life on the other hand hurts my head. Her choice in men (her ex-husband and possibly deputy....oh and remember the stalker cop from her past backeast?) vs her her feelings toward Walt...make me just shake my head. In many ways she appears to sabotage herself with adolescent games. I agree that the temporary deputy picked up more on Vic's teenager-esque jealousy games than on Walt's perception (or lack of perception) on the situation. But that's just my opinion....I could be wrong. 2 Link to comment
CoderLady September 20, 2015 Share September 20, 2015 (edited) But that's just my opinion....I could be wrong. I think you're spot on. Vic makes bad decisions about men that so far has put her in a couple of relationships that have been sticky to get out of. Walt has seen the fallout from the bad decision-making but doesn't have a clue that Vic is interested in him as her next bad choice. Plus, the day he did respond to another woman was the day of Cady's hit-and-run, and I think he still hasn't returned from the guilt trip that that sent him on. HipOldBat September 28, 2015 Share September 28, 2015 I love this show, and was so glad it was picked up by Netflix. In fact, I joined Netflix just so I could watch it, and Sherlock. One thing I didn't understand was when Walt and Mathias searched Henry's apartment, Ursula and her son were gone. I thought for sure that they would be found there. Did Walt warn them ahead of time? I was disappointed that he would have gone along with the search, but then when she wasn't there... 1 Link to comment
margol29 November 19, 2015 Share November 19, 2015 Just now getting caught up on this show. I am glad that they are not drawing out the story arcs light the Martha's murder. I am wondering if they will address the Connelly fortune. Now that Branch and his dad are both dead who will inherit that fortune. As far as I know, Lucien is the only living relative of Barlow's. I am sure his ex-wife will not inherit. Link to comment
Nashville November 27, 2015 Share November 27, 2015 I have to assume Cassino should bring people and money to town and increased police budget. Or at least it would in the real world? Eventually, maybe - but not immediately: The immediate primary affect will be to enrich the Tribe, and (judging from the constant references of how the town is being overwhelmed by casino visitors) it will do so immensely. The casino is on Cheyenne reservation land, however, which is sovereign territory - meaning neither the state of Wyoming nor Absaroka County will collect any revenue tax from the casino operations. The immediate secondary effect will be a business boom in Durant (the nearest city to the casino), particularly for the town's hotel, restaurant and tourist industries. Tax revenues from these operations will come back to the state and county - but it's unlikely current county budgets (such as that of the county sheriff's department) will reflect any of this increased revenue until the next fiscal year's budget at the earliest. The long-term effect will almost certainly be a period of explosive business and population growth in Durant - new businesses to take advantage of the increased tourism traffic, and an increased population of new workers, both in the casino and associated new businesses. Both of these will also feed increased sales, property and (possibly) income tax revenue into the local government - but will probably take at least a year or two to develop to a significant extent. Yeah, my job's had me in relatively close contact with a lot of Indian tribes over the years. :) I am wondering if they will address the Connelly fortune. Now that Branch and his dad are both dead who will inherit that fortune. As far as I know, Lucien is the only living relative of Barlow's. I am sure his ex-wife will not inherit. Branch predeceased his father Barlow, was unmarried, and (to the best of our knowledge) had no children. Unless Branch had a will stating otherwise (which would be somewhat surprising for such a young man), Branch's divorced parents would split any residue of Branch's estate - not that Branch was likely to have yet accumulated very much of an estate. Barlow is a different manner: he's got beaucoup bucks, and I'm certain he would have a will in place. The problem, however, is Barlow's will probably left everything to Branch as his sole son and heir - a bequest which cannot be honored since Branch predeceased dear old Dad. Barlow was divorced at tiem of death, so unless (a) Barlow revised his will immediately after shooting his own son or (b) Barlow's will designated an alternate heir in the event Branch predeceased him, Barlow will be considered to have died relatively intestate - special requests in the will may be honored, but the primary bequest of the remainder of the estate cannot. So the residue of the estate would probably go to Barlow's nearest blood relative(s) - in this case, Lucien and any other surviving siblings. 1 Link to comment
