Isn't this the third Durst episode they've done (if you include the one in L&O: Mothership)? Are there other celebrities/criminals who've inspired three or more episodes? I'm sure there must be, but none come to mind.

To be fair, the show is 17 seasons in. I'm thinking repeating plots is de rigueur now.

If I recall correctly, they've done Sante Kimes twice -- once with Laila Robins (Mothership) and once with Carol Burnett (SVU).

I hadn't followed the Durst case much, to be honest, other than random articles, so I only picked up on it when Carisi was shown with the headphones.

 

And then I laughed.

 

And then I thought 'omg that's not funny, people are dead'.

 

And then I laughed again.

 

At least we get Dallas Roberts again, and it's not a crossover, and it has Barba, and it has Carisi. Sold.

The promo for this actually looks very promising. Beat last season's promo & key art that only featured Olivia & Noah. This one has all (current) cast, no Noah & a heinous crime. All the ingredients that made me fall in love with SVU.02, well minus DP then :(

And Dallas Roberts did Yates perfectly. From a preview clip it looks as he (or the Durst character) has Rollins' ear, I really liked the interrogation scene with Rollins & Yates so I'm hoping it's Yates. I'm hoping for a bit of Lecter/Clarice vibe. And I'm keeping my fingers crossed there will be tension between Liv & Rollins and that it just isn't the promo monkeys playing with us. 

And then I really, really hope Kelli Giddish doesn't miss too many episodes cause it will be bad enough that DP is gone :(

Remember the Rev. Ted Haggard, who preached against the evil sin of homosexuality, and then turned out to be having homosexual sex and doing drugs with a male prostitute?  There were three episodes loosely based on him:

 

Law & Order:  SVU  8-17  "Sin"

 

Law & Order:  Criminal Intent 6-15 "Brother's Keeper"

 

Law & Order 17-14 "Church"
