Strictly in the Media

Recommended Posts

There's a feature in this week's Radio Times on the show, with pieces by Jeremy Vine (he says everyone's lovely behind the scenes) and Craig, giving his views on various contestants.  Apparently Peter Andre takes twice as long as everyone else to learn a routine.  Nothing else very interesting (except that of those already out, Iwan Thomas "loved himself more than the dancing").

Thanks for providing the link, Legaleagle53.

1st ever! you say. Somebody must like all the props and tinkering with the songs and dances that we tend to complain about. ;-)

Having said that, I clicked on the link about the British government going after the BBC, but when I checked out the winners in each category I noticed BBC programs won in the majority of categories. Is this a case of Public TV working too well, so the government has to interfere so commercial channels get a fair shake... and the public gets shit programs from everyone?

Good question. He initially said that Spring 2015 was going to be his last season with DWTS, but he was back for Spring 2016 after sitting out the Fall 2015 season.  That's why I don't put too much stock into this current idea that he's now done with Strictly.  In other words, I'll believe it when I see it and Anton has replaced him on the panel (as James Jordan hopes will be the case if Len really does quit).

I imagine the show will do a tribute to him.  Maybe Anton will choreograph a ballroom number in his honor.

Oh, they did. I saw it on YouTube, it was really nice. This is the only show I saw him on (being on the other side of the pond and all) and even I got a bit sentimental watching it.

Speaking of YouTube postings, they haven't uploaded anything yet for Saturday's show. Nothing to do but wait, I suppose.

The BBC will only post clips of the dances and any pro exhibitions.  It never posts the entire show or anything from the companion show It Takes Two, which has no counterpart in the US.

The only show so far was the launch show in which they did the tribute to Bruce.  The first of the live shows is this Saturday, 23rd September.  This is the group dance from the launch show.  Hope you can view it...

So...Seann and Katya's 'snog-gate' is now pretty much a...national scandal, apparently?! I guess the suggestion of an illicit affair is a lot more palatable and exciting than actually having to see two people drunkenly sucking face in an alley.

Given that Seann's (now) ex-girlfriend released a statement that suggests emotional abuse on his part, the whole thing has gone from salacious to serious pretty fast...

It's no more of a "national" scandal than Flavia Cacace's affair with one of her celeb partners a few years ago was.  That supposedly was what ended her long-term relationship with Vincent Simone, although from what I read at the time, that relationship was already on its last legs long before she admitted to having the affair.  And it really didn't last all that long.  Flavia ended up marrying another one of her celeb partners (Jimi Mistry, whom I adored), and Vincent is also now happily married to someone else and is the proud father of two kids. So whatever Seann and Katya might have going on is no big deal as far as I'm concerned.

And before that it was Brendan Cole and Natasha Kaplinsky, which supposedly ended his relationship with...another dancer whose name I forget. And there have been many others - basically, the trash media will pounce on even the slightest hint of either potential romance or of scandal and then blows it up out of all proportion.

Yes, didn't they even once try to sell a romance between Ian Waite and his celeb partner?  Ian. Waite.  The poster boy for marriage equality.

Hee.  I don't know if this ever happened. I wasn't watching the show when Ian was on. But I certainly wouldn't put it past the gutter press.

Now THAT is an example of REAL fake news.

Oh, don't get me wrong: i'm utterly bemused by how big this news is when - as you say - there's been all kinds of shenanigans going on in previous years (and I suspect we don't even know the half of what goes on!). This one just seems to have...snowballed. It was on the bloomin' nightly news, for crying out loud.
