Mini-eulogies:

"Who Do You Love" was low on my list because it just seemed so... re-cappy and less mood-building.  OTOH, there were two moments in the montage that were ultimately dead give-aways for the season.  The first is Charlie saying that when the Winchesters were united there was nothing they couldn't do (and of course the season tore them apart).  Second was the song title in the first place.  Who DID the boys love during the year and what were the consequences?  Dean stuffed an angel in Sam and Kevin got killed.  Sam tried to assert his independence post-violation and Dean got killed. It was, at best, a mixed message.

 

"Back in the Saddle" - kudos for being the first mid-season montage. That was nice. OTOH, I didn't like how it seemed to be a celebration that Dean's relationship with Lisa failed, plus IDK... Aerosmith... too screechy for me.

I wasn't away on purpose... It's been a really weird week.

 

Farewell to "Heartbreaker." Somehow the song just didn't seem right for me, as in either the mood or the message was entirely wrong in my opinion, especially for season 9 which was either a moody season or a season full of violence ready to burst out... which while this song has that somewhat, the jilted lover lyrics are just too off the mark, for me anyway.

What made Stranglehold great was because it was such a Classic Hard Rock song with screaming Ted Nugent vocals that it immediately puts you "into" the Supernatural vibe when it starts Season 2.  Like the end of S1, this helped to cement Supernatural's Hard Rock heartbeat.

I haven't voted in this round because I never paid much attention to the "Road So Far"s.  Probably a good thing because you guys would have had a fight on your hands, especially with "Hell's Bells".  The tolling of the bell in the song fit so perfectly with Dean counting down his remaining time above ground, I've always thought.  While I'm not an Aerosmith fan, I also would have fought for "Back in the Saddle".  And down voted "Long Black Road" every chance I got.

 

So it's probably a good thing I didn't vote this round.  ;-)

A memorium for "Locomotive Breath": I thought the song choice was a great one. The mood and general message of the song was great for embodying the endless struggle that Sam and Dean had found themselves in and that "God stole the handle" a long time ago and Sam and Dean did what they could to slow down the train going off the tracks, and in the process they ended up getting run over by it. The scenes managed to reflect that somewhat relentless and chaotic tone. I also liked the little detail of Crowley snapping his fingers and the music stopping and ending with the last scene of Dean in the uncertainty of purgatory without no music in the background. It made me excited for what was coming... as for what actually happened afterwards, well, never mind.

Nice eulogy. I agree. I like all the songs on the list, to be honest, but these last few each have a particular fondness for me.  I know if something really "clicks" if I rewatch JUST this part multiple times (like a music video).

Well my votes are with Long Black Road. I think it has the best edits and most perfect song choice for basically everyone in s10 but especially Dean to that point of the story. Plus that song is so underrated.
