Best thing about Ghostfacers: actual swearing and the MOTW was f*cking CREEPY AS SHIT.  That's all I got.

@7kstar, I think No Rest for the Wicked should be at 10.  RIP Ghostfacers. 

We must have voted very close together...glad you caught it and it was fixed. 

 

I liked Ghostfacers the first time I watched it and couldn't figure out why so many didn't, but repeat viewing just didn't hold up as well for me at least.  I think the concept was a good one and I liked this version of them, because you get to love to hate them the two repeating characters.  That's all I can think of to say.

I'll give "Ghostfacers" its sendoff, because even with repeated viewings, I still love this episode. In addition to everything I talked about on the last page concerning Dean and how he relates to the "civilians" here (It's one of my most favorite episodes for Dean because of this) and Sam's trying to comfort Corbett - there are so many other details that I love: The beginning "introduction" from Harry and Ed, the Ghostfacers theme song and beginning credits (of course Dean is giving the finger), Maggie, Spruce, and their introductory comments, the setting up the equipment montage with the great instrumental music accompaniment, the death echos, the creepy ghost, Sam and Dean figuring out why the death echos are there ("eww"), Sam and the crooked party hat, and Corbett saving the day. Au revoir "Ghostfacers."

 

Of the remaining episodes, I have two clear favorites, and two that come next. Weirdly, it almost gets easier for me now.

Ah, Ghostfacers...well, it is one that I once liked more than I do now, but I still find it enjoyable none-the-less. I think what I loved about it initially was the concept and maybe after watching it a few times the concept has worn thin. But this episode is a good example of what Supernatural used to do really well--take an interesting storytelling vehicle and twist and turn it around and make it their own somehow. So, rest in peace Ghostfacers, if for nothing else, than for you trying to stand out from the crowd and being a little bit of unique silliness in the world.

@7kstar and @catrox14 - I haven't cast my vote yet today (still thinking since things are coming down to the end), and so I could be easily put on the road to flipping the position of "Jus in Bello" and "Bad Day..." if you want to put up a good argument as I'm not entirely attached to either. Or even saving one of the "babies" over "Jus in Bello." That's because I have a sort of love/hate relationship with that ep, so I could go either way.

 

For me at present, I don't so much mind the order, because while a great episode, I generally have ::cue Spike's friend Clem voice again:: "issues" with "Jus in Bello" whereas I can tend to just enjoy "Bad Day..." and "A Very Supernatural Christmas..." for what they are.

 

My "issues": 1) They killed Hendricksen - %^*&$%# @#*&^%#$

2) What the hell was the message of this episode? It seemed to be wanting to tell me something, but damned if I could figure out exactly what. I don't normally consider myself a stupid viewer, but my brain hurt from this one and the ping pong match it seemed to have from the message it wanted to give.

3) How does Dean have like the best luck ever (no one died or even got majorly injured in his plan) and the worst luck ever (everyone died anyway) at the same time? Well, I guess it's better than Sam's luck, so...

4) Did I mention that they killed Hendricksen? I did? Well, it merits mentioning twice, in my opinion.

 

I'm open for debate - I'm weirdly like that with much of season 3's episodes. I only have a few favorite favorites (and one of those is gone) a few I dislike, and the rest are similar for me... Well for me Jus in Bello is strong because you have the argument that both people love to say, Save the one over the many or save the majority even if you have to sacrifice a few.

 

I just love how smug Dean is, and the ep is pretty tight with pacing.  Ruby I really like in this one.  I really see how they play the line that I'm here to see you win but when they lose at the end, she realizes that Lilith is the only way to go after-all. Or you could say she played the boys but good.

 

Dean is shot and they Save Hendricksen from the Demon, that toilet scene is funny and scary in one breath.

 

Dean's plan would have worked except for one weakness, the least experience guarding the one door that one little demon escaped out of it.  You have Sam being so sweet and coaching the Girl to give him the towel then scaring her to death to get the cross for protection.  

 

No Rest for the Wicked over Dream a Little Dream...The last scene with Dean going to hell and Sam finding out that Lilith couldn't harm him, yet he couldn't save his brother because he had to be upset in order to make his powers work.  It's the one thing they kept consistent

through season 2 - 3. 

 

Why the Christmas one isn't so much higher for me, yes but, getting it out of the way first.  The last scene with the brothers is a killer and it is pretty prefect.  But the pace for the rest of it isn't as smooth.  Plus they did what with Santa in front of a little boy.  With all the deaths in real life...Well it lowers it a bit.  I can understand how I can be outvoted.  But once the few I'm fighting to save are gone...well I can be evil too!  :)

I've never been as much of a fan of Jus in Bello as many.  I didn't care if they sacrificed virgin Nancy. I'm a terrible person.  I only loved the interplay between Henriksen (RIP) and Dean and I wanted them to start hunting together NEVAR FORGET. 

 

I can let go of Dream a Little Dream if I think about the Lisa part of the dreams. But when I think about the fantastic scene of Dean fighting Demon!Dean (OH FUCK YOU CARVER BTW) it's hard to let go, but I would keep No Rest for the Wicked over Dream a Little Dream. 

 

But for me I love No Rest for the Wicked because all the Dean angst and fear  and Jensen just friggin' brings it in this episode and Jared too.  Creepy little Lilith is one of the best child actors they've had on this show, right up there with Jesse.  It was completely suspenseful and the entire time I'm thinking there is no fucking way they kill Dean. They'll get out of it somehow. But then the hellhounds come and Lilith is in Ruby and "Sic em boys" and my world shatters and Dean is fucking dead and Sam is broken and then Dean is in Hell. His worst kind of Hell. NO ONE there.  Nothing.   SAAAAAAAAM!  Oh fuck me. That episode is AWESOME.

The last scene with Dean going to hell and Sam finding out that Lilith couldn't harm him, yet he couldn't save his brother because he had to be upset in order to make his powers work.  It's the one thing they kept consistent through season 2 - 3.

 

I liked that, too, but I wanted the show to take more of a stand maybe? Instead, both tactics were wrong? What? Even Kirk beat the Kobyashi Maru test, even if he did cheat to do so. ; ) .

 

And I'm not so sure about the consistency thing. Sam should've been pretty upset by what was happening to Dean to be able to try to do something (As in "Nightmare"). I think they fixed that more with 1) Azazel was dead, so the "source" of Sam's offensive powers were gone, but the defensive ones were still in place. 2) Sam's offensive powers increased when he drank the demon blood - which would explain why they hadn't worked here, since he didn't have demon blood yet.

I've never been as much of a fan of Jus in Bello as many.  I didn't care if they sacrificed virgin Nancy. I'm a terrible person.  I only loved the interplay between Henriksen (RIP) and Dean and I wanted them to start hunting together NEVAR FORGET. 

But for me I love No Rest for the Wicked because all the Dean angst and fear  and Jensen just friggin' brings it in this episode and Jared too.  Creepy little Lilith is one of the best child actors they've had on this show, right up there with Jesse.  It was completely suspenseful and the entire time I'm thinking there is no fucking way they kill Dean. They'll get out of it somehow. But then the hellhounds come and Lilith is in Ruby and "Sic em boys" and my world shatters and Dean is fucking dead and Sam is broken and then Dean is in Hell. His worst kind of Hell. NO ONE there.  Nothing.   SAAAAAAAAM!  Oh fuck me. That episode is AWESOME. 

 

If you're a terrible person, @catrox14, then so am I. I was like why are they bashing poor Sam - and Nancy - so much for considering the sacrifice Nancy plan? Nancy wants to be a hero here. Dean friggin' does the sacrifice himself thing all the time but he's berating Nancy for wanting to do it?

 

I think the main reason I didn't want Dean to go to hell was because that meant poor Sam would be failing - again. Little did I know what would be coming in season 4, so maybe in retrospect, Sam failing here wasn't the worst of it. I also felt bad for Dean going to hell at all, but at the time I didn't know how crazy they were going to go with that - in other words I wasn't imagining the 40 years thing - but that's not the fault of this episode.

 

My favorite part was the Bon Jovi scene, but I agree about creepy little Lilith, too.

 

Okay, I've decided. I'm going on the side of judicious, put them all on near even footing for the moment and let you guys choose... If things start looking even more confused, I'll have to come back to nudge things along - hee - ; ).  Okay, play clean... to your corners and come out fighting!

I think Dean was falling into old habits -- namely, protecting people.  I don't think Dean was trying to keep her from being the hero, I think he was only trying to think of keeping as many people safe as possible.

 

And he did, IMO, have a point.  They're the good guys.  They're not supposed to sacrifice others for their own safety.  Sadly, it didn't work, but they had no way of knowing that.

Oh I think I didn't express that right - I didn't mean to imply that Dean was trying to keep her from being the hero... I was commenting that I thought he should've been more sympathetic to her motives. We know Dean does this, but she didn't know that. Now if he'd said something like "look I get it, but been there, done that... trust me, not the way to go." rather than making it sound like she was nuts and sort of yelling at her, I would've been totally on Dean's side... not that I wasn't mostly on his side here - just not in the way he expressed it.

 

But as for safety: Dean's plan wasn't exactly the safest one either - "we'll let all the demons in and fight them off, somehow without harming the hosts that are still alive" wasn't exactly going to be assuring that everyone was going to come out alive. It could have theoretically ended up in more people dead on the spot if it didn't go exactly as planned.

I think there were very few options by that point. They could sacrifice the virgin (which I'll admit I was not down with) and trust that Ruby was actually telling the truth (which I highly doubted) and killed all the demons. Some people would have lived and some people's bodies were probably too worn out, but for sure Nancy would be dead. They could have done nothing and everybody dies. Or they could go with Dean's plan, which was reckless and might not have worked, but at least they would give everybody a fighting chance. For me, I'd go with Dean's plan any day. I wouldn't want anyone to sacrifice themselves for me to live, I'd rather go down fighting and trying for us all to live. I could live with some deaths that way, but I don't think I could live with knowing that I stood by and watched someone get their heart ripped out of their chest because I didn't want to die and was too scared to try something reckless. Plus, Dean's plan makes everyone the hero, not just one person who is now dead and cannot even take pleasure in the win. Just me, but I felt like Ruby's plan was the cowardly way out.

 

However, that's not why I'm not fighting to save this episode. I do like a good portion of this episode, but I hate the ending. I hate they killed Hendrickson just to teach Dean a nonsensical lesson about how he should listen to a demon and trust her advice about fighting wars (sorry, I know that's not the lesson they wanted Dean to learn, but I just can't accept it because she's a freakin' demon, for Chuck's sake). And you want to know what I hate even more than them killing Hendrickson to teach Dean a nonsensical lesson? Ruby's gloating about it and lauding it over them. Yeah, it's totally the yucky Ruby factor that drags this episode down for me.

 

So, I'm going to argue to keep Dream A Little Dream Of Me a little longer. If nothing else, remember the fantastic and totally awesome work the art department did in this episode. Yes, I know Bella was silly and all...but the bird wallpaper and the forest hallway and the subtleties of Bobby's house and...okay, I think you get my meaning, enough said.

Actually it is interesting to see why people vote for what.  I always took Dean's speech even with the yelling is saying Stop.  We aren't killing someone as it's wrong.  Do I think this ep is perfect nope.  But it has two guest stars that I like and how I wish we found out that Hendricksen somehow survived. 

 

But I said this one would be an interesting ride because I didn't think we were really going to agree this season but I do know which one is my negative vote.  LOL.   But season three certainly has a better season than it might have since it was cut short due to the writer's strike. 

 

Ruby was suppose to be the character that everyone loved to hate.  They thought they were being sneaky but I don't think too many were fooled and she certainly knew how to pull the heart strings.  But I can forgive her part since Lilith is just soooooooooo creepy.

I agree they were doing their best and there really weren't many options... well there was one*, but it could've been just as risky, and might have eventually sacrificed some of the people on the outside, depending on what the demons did. I also agree that Dean's plan was the best that they had to accomplish what they needed to. I can't really call Ruby's plan - if it was real - cowardly on her part per se, because Ruby was actually sacrificing herself as well - not just Nancy. And if it wasn't a real spell, I would more call it a totally heinous deception. Weirdly, I'm still not clear on what was actually happening here - which is odd, because I should know, but I don't think the episode gave me enough to be exactly sure what the truth was.

 

As for blame, I want to blame Ruby too. Since we found out she was working with Lilith, she could very well have had some influence with her and gotten the people spared and/or warned them somehow. Later on she was saving angels and being really helpful. She actually should've tried that tactic here... which was kinda stupid on her part since that would've gone a long way towards getting in good with Sam and Dean. But no, Ruby had to make a stupid point about making sacrifices...

 

So yup, I'm gonna blame Ruby, too.

 

* The one I thought of was they could've broadcast the exorcism outside and scared all of the demons away - then ran like hell. the problem there was the meatsuits and what would happen to them, but theoretically it would've saved the people in the building or at least given them a fighting chance.

 

And too bad Sam and Dean didn't know about the demon that got away - they might have been able to advise everyone to leave.

To be clear, I meant it was the cowardly way out for the people standing idly by, I really could have cared less if Ruby died or not. I think it would have been cowardly to have those five people stand around while Nancy gets her heart ripped out so they could live. That's a case of them doing nothing to help themselves and taking the easy way out, IMO. I would never be able to forgive myself for that loss no matter how many people were saved. That's probably one of the thousand reasons I would not have been a good soldier--that and I don't really like being told what to do nor do I usually do what I'm told. ;)

Well someone had to do it. Still, you have to admire how long it took for us to finally vote these guys off the Island.

Let's first talk bout the wonder that is Dream a Little Dream. For me it's the Dean vs Dean scene that haunts me. In light of the ending of S9..... Wowser.

And No Rest is Just Heartbreaking. The goodbye is so quick and perfect. The SONG. And Sam's face as he holds dead Dean. Yeh, nothing will ever be the same in the SPN universe after this episode.
