Sniff Sin City, Poor Dean unable to get rid of the demon because he needs that book and then to discover there is actually a demon that might be interesting...maybe worth saving.  The poor hunter that is so bad at the job.  This might be the closest we see Dean getting to Vegas, right.  It had some really nice moments but it also had weak ones too.  My problem  I still haven't rewatched all of this season and so I don't know which ones are really my best votes.  I still seem to like ones that others don't.

Out of respect, I rewatched Long Distance Call since I was consistently downvoting the episode.  I still disliked the horrible stereotype + flies + bleech jaw guy but the actual premise (luring with the voice of dead loved ones) was innovative. Best parts: Sammy Whammy of Puppy-Dog eyes (he was so good at getting people to talk!), "...and me?....moment's over." - nice bro-scenes.

I'll leave the nice words for "Time Is On My Side" for someone else who can do it better... In some ways, I preferred "Long Distance Call," though I do agree with your criticisms @SueB. As for my favorite bit not mentioned - even with the stereotype (which they avoid better in "The Mentalists"), I still enjoyed the entire sequence with smug Dean finding the "lead" in the hotel pamphlet, Sam's whole "aw really, man, I'm never living this down" reaction, and then the whole resulting tour in the museum. I thought that the woman playing the tour guide made the most of her somewhat stereotypical part, so I'm never not amused by her whole "quotey-fingers" tour and Dean's reaction to it. So goodbye to "Long Distance Call" ... "and we're walking, and we're walking.... and we're not touching that...."

'Time is on my Side' is one of those eps I rarely rewatch but there are some awesome gems. First is the lengths Sam is prepared to go to. It's scary and I personally think it's a critical insight into how much damage Sam ends up suffering with Dean's death. That Dean won't cross that line is also a key character moment. I didn't like the hasty wrap up of Bela. I wanted better for her. But that line of seeing her in hell ... And meaning it ..was very chilling.

But I want to touch that, AwesomO4000! Okay, that was not supposed to sound dirty, get your minds out of the gutter folks! Hee!

I love the idea of Time Is On My Side...Doc Benton was a great monster and a good discussion happens in this episode. Plus, we meet Rufus--gotta love Rufus! But Bella's resolution is still not one that I like to think about. I didn't mind that she ended up in Hell, per se, just didn't care for how they were trying to tug at my heartstrings by putting the molestation factor to it. I think it would have been better that she sold her soul because she was always a self absorbed person that wanted to take the easy way to get what she wanted and now was paying for it. Rather than her be a molested child that sold her soul to escape horrible parents, but then used it only to become a self-absorbed and truly horrible person. Sigh, probably enough said about that right?

 

I really like Long Distance Call though, for most of the reasons you point out @AwesomO4000. Plus, I will add: the fight scene with Dean and that guy is one of their best IMO, and I really like how Dean is really starting to get scared and he's wanting to believe beyond reason that Dad will swoop in and save him and Sam seems to be at a loss to help. There's a nice balance in the episode that I like.

What is it with me and this season?  Well, stepping up Darth SueB in the house, it's time for some cleaning.

Fresh Blood:  Sam cutting Gordon's head off with razor wire stands out as probably his most brutal kill.  I liked how they showed Gordon's vampire vision. But I didn't feel bad when he died.  Retrospectively, I agree with many who say -- he died but he actually wasn't wrong.  Sucked to be him.

The Kids Are Alright: Despite the over-the-top mini-me moments, this had some nice scenes. I really liked both Lisa and Ben and adored the little kiss at the end.

 

After this post, I believe we are down to single +'s as we are halfway thru.

I had no trouble with the way Sam killed Gordon--brutal maybe, but it wasn't like he planned it out or anything, it was self defense afterall. I'm pretty fond of Fresh Blood, not that it would make my top ten list or anything, but I love to hate Gordon and I love how Sam calls Dean out on his bravado bullshit and I love the scene at the end of Dean showing Sam how to fix Baby. And The Kids Are Alright would probably make a top ten list for me if it weren't for the Mini-Dean stuff and it also has Yucky-And-Totally-Obvious Ruby in it, so.... The woman slowly losing her mind throughout the episode and tries to drown her monster-daughter was all sorts of fantastic, though.

 

And this is the point where it gets a bit more difficult...

The Kids -- Never had a problem with the mini Dean and this one is higher on my list.  But I knew it would be a losing battle.  I just wanted Fresh Blood to go out with it.  LOL.

 

Fresh Blood, has such a few great moments, Sam getting through to Dean before his risk taking got him killed and the ending is one of the most bittersweet moments. 

 

I would rather have Henriksen over Gordon, but this does show how brutal Sam can be.  I've always liked Season 3 Ruby over Season 4 so she doesn't bother me that much.  I blame the writing and directing because I see a lot of potential for this Ruby. 

 

Still on the fence so my voting may change as the mood strikes me.

20 - Ghostfacers - I don't hate them but after repeat watching I'm bored.

I can see that point of view, and I know I have an inexplicable love for this episode, but I think for me this holds up because of what I learn about Sam and Dean in this episode even though we're seeing it from almost an outsider's point of view. (It's one of my favorite Dean episodes). We see how Dean tries his best to relate to the civilians and he "gets" that they think looking at things through the camera somehow makes it less scary, and he uses that to help him communicate with them. (We didn't often get to see Dean use this skill, especially if he had Sam to rely on to do it instead. Here, Dean had to rely on himself, since Sam was missing, and he rose to the occasion). We see how even though Sam is scared and it's likely hopeless, he tries to be there for and with Corbet, so Corbett won't die alone... And at the same time we see Sam and Dean smash the Ghostfacers' dreams, because the world isn't ready to handle the truth or what people would do with it - or maybe to - the Ghostfacers. So we see jerky Sam and Dean also - layers and complexity that I liked in this episode.

 

And for me it's sort of why "Dream..." doesn't hold up as well. We learn some things about Bobby and we learn some things about Dean - sort of - but the opportunity for Sam is wasted (we never see inside Sam's head in the same way we do Dean and Bobby), and in addition, in the end, Dean learns little that sticks. It's good that Dean decides that he doesn't deserve to become a demon and that he didn't deserve what John did to him... but none of that really sticks at all, and it's soon back to Dean's self-esteem issues. Whether it was his hell experiences or it just didn't stick even before that, Dean's revelations here don't end up amounting to anything.* Which is kind of too bad, because with some Sam insight and maybe more change in attitude from Dean after this episode, this one could've been really, really great for me.

 

* and of course Dean still became a demon in the end... It just took a little longer than he thought.

Yes you did.  I would say No Rest for the Wicked is in my top 5.  I think that Dream a Little Dream holds up and Bella is fun in this one.  But I like Bella and think the Actress is really strong. 

 

My other top 4 not decided on the order yet, guess I will have to figure that out shortly I may just see how my mood strikes.  Glad you joined us.  Next season...oh dear I guess I have to rewatch to see which one is which  not sure I even remember most of them.

I'd rather "Dream a Little Dream..." go down before "No Rest...,"  but since that doesn't look to be in the cards, I'm picking on "No Rest..." I like some of that ep - especially the Bon Jovi scene -  so I hate to do it, but I'm not ready to lose "Ghostfacers" yet, so I had to pick something. : (

 

Next season...oh dear I guess I have to rewatch to see which one is which  not sure I even remember most of them.

 

My problem is that I remember some too well - in that I really, really don't like them... and I'm guessing that some of those episodes I don't like will be ones that others do. Season 4 is really divided for me. There's some I really love and some I really dislike. And then some that just depressed me.
