Jesse L. Martin's pilot got picked up to series at NBC: '‘The Irrational’ Drama Starring Jesse L. Martin Lands NBC Series Order'

Quote

The Irrational, from Arika Lisanne Mittman, was ordered to pilot in February and signs were looking good for a series order. As Deadline previously reported, a mini writers room was set up in the fall to produce a couple of backup scripts, and cast options, which had been set to expire in October, were extended through the end of this month.

Written by Mittman, The Irrational is based on Dan Ariely’s bestselling novel Predictably Irrational. The show follows on Alec Baker (Martin), a world-renowned professor of behavioral science who lends his expertise to an array of high-stakes cases involving governments, law enforcement and corporations with his unique and unexpected approach to understanding human behavior.

Congrats to Jesse!

We'll find out later whether this premieres in the Fall, or midseason.

Friday 3/10 @ 3pm EST / 12pm PST on YouTube ❄️👟

We took snowmobiles up to the top of a mountain in the freezing cold snow and made a thing. A 12-minute single-take short film in deep snow is no simple task (or even a guarantee that you’ll get a complete take that works), but our small and mighty crew absolutely crushed it!! And the cherry on top: I got to work with one of my favorite actors/humans, @grantgust.

So grateful for everyone who went all in for this, and I can’t wait to share SNOWSHOE with you on Friday. Join me at noon PST on YouTube to watch the premiere with me LIVE, and chat while we watch. [link in bio]

Chris wood talks about making the Snowshoe short and working with Grant Gustin in this interview at EW: https://ew.com/movies/chris-wood-talks-reuniting-with-grant-gustin-snowshoe-short-film/

... And in the same way that I was, he was hungry for a different challenge. He'd been doing The Flash for so many years. I hope it shows people how much more he can do from what they've already seen, because he really is such a gifted performer. That's also why I thought of him right away — because there's a lot of Grant's abilities that I don't feel like I have seen captured on camera yet. When he read the script, he just totally got it off the page. We met up a couple times to rehearse, and it was just a blast getting to dig in and really flesh these guys out so that when we got there on the day, we felt like we knew every beat of the dynamic inside and out, and why the characters make the decisions they make. I'm so grateful that he did this with me, and I feel closer to Grant after playing his brother. We still call each other brother now. I think it's permanent.

The star from Ed and The Flash is set to host Hey Yahoo!, a new show for the Game Show Network that’s set to premiere early this summer.

From GSN's press release:

Although he also directs on "Superman & Lois", television audiences may be more familiar with him from shows such as "Ed", "Scrubs", "Trust Me", "Love Monkey", "Eli Stone", "Blue Bloods" and others, while Broadway audiences may know him from the Tony Award winning "Urinetown." The movie Grant filmed last summer with Lucy Hale will come out later this summer on Freevee; the article also has a few promo photos with Grant:

'Lucy Hale & Grant Gustin Headline ‘Puppy Love’'

Quote

In Puppy Love, after a disastrous first date, wild-child Nicole (Hale) and socially-anxious Max (Gustin) vow to lose each other’s numbers until they learn that their dogs find a love match, and now puppies are on the way! The hilariously mismatched Nicole and Max are forced to become responsible co-parents, but may end up finding love themselves.

Hee -- this is Grant's second dog movie!

Grant seems to be playing a version of himself, there are dogs involved, and he didn't have to shave or wear a supercostume; must've been great for him!

It may have, but the movie was awful. I was hoping I’d get to hear him sing-really-really sing instead of the the dribble we got. And that Cyndi Lauper cover wasn’t that great, when I’ve heard him sing much better. The only good thing was the end credits that had outtakes and bloopers.

Yeah...  I was going to post about it in the movies subforum; it was not great.

And I was so looking forward to his next acting gig. I’ve never watched Glee, but did search to find his episodes, to hear him sing, heh. I did watch a movie he did where he was stalked by an ex. He was good in that. It was pre-Flash.

Happy for him! I know he has wanted to be on Broadway.

I love Grant so much and he's so talented. I can't believe that the major studios didn't nab him. Despite my earlier criticisms that his Barry/Flash was like the Timm's Justice League's Wally, he was wonderful in the role and should have been grabbed to play in the movies.

Obviously, it a different situation with him being the lead character and a producer; but it's still amazing to me how many interviews Jesse L. Martin has done for his new show than for all nine seasons of The Flash.

His show, The Irrational, was renewed for a 2nd season, BTW.

Opening night for Water for Elephants was last week, so reviews are out if one wants to find them.

But I thought this was interesting, with quotes from and photos of Gustin:

https://www.townandcountrymag.com/leisure/arts-and-culture/g60267813/grant-gustin-broadway-water-for-elephants-opening-night-photo-diary/

Quote

"After doing The Flash for nearly 10 years, I knew I wanted to get on stage to cleanse my palate after playing one character for so long, and in one medium," Gustin says. "I knew it was going to be scary and hard, and I felt like I needed that. And I got obsessed with the idea of doing Water for Elephants. It felt like the perfect show at the perfect time."

No wins for Water for Elephants at the Tonys last night; but Grant did perform with the rest of the company at the show. (Also, it seems he didn't do the red carpet, as far as I can tell.)

"The company of Water For Elephants perform "Anywhere Another Train" and "The Road Don't Make You Young" at The 77th Annual Tony Awards":
