IA with the Valentine love, kaygeeret.

I am mixed on Moto. I understand what Moto meant, when talking to Almond at the end. They can trust him to have the squad's back so that they can continue to do good by putting away truly evil people. Moto's actions at the hearing allowed the team to continue. I get that, truly. I just also see Almond's point about lying. how that can get in the way of continuing to do good by undermining other official people's trust in your word as trustworthy.  This will be an interesting thread if they can write it maturely. One bit I did not like was that Almond was shown looking in on Moto as he was about to begin his testimony. Either trust him or don't; you're not his parent.

I did love that the McGuffin was a cola bottle from Joan Crawford's belongings! How original and whimsical enough for this show. Thanks for that, show!

Critics be damned, I like this show!

And this epi, I really like due in no small part to the increased presence of the son!

I like it, too.  I almost didn't finish watching the first episode, which I realize is usually a mistake as they have to set up all kinds of stuff for us in it, but when he got to the "I'm you" part, I got hooked.  Now I have it programmed on my DVR.

I must've missed something.  Who's the son?  The gay man who lives with him?

Yes; the result of an encounter with a prostitute (AFAIK, the mother hasn't been shown.)

This show is definitely finding its stride, with a balanced ensemble.  I was a little surprised the non-Backstroms weren't more pushing for Moto to tell the truth, but it shows many of them to have a lesser-of-two evils/situational ethics philosophy that Backstrom personifies.

Also, Almond was a fantastic preacher.  I would have liked to see the "don't commit perjury" scene occur earlier, though maybe there wasn't time…and maybe have a follow-up about it--the frustration of Moto not getting promoted is understandable.  (This show has continuity in character development.)

I'm starting to ignore the cases of the week because if I think about those two hard, they affect my enjoyment of the show. That being said, the way the murder was executed was way to complicated.

But what intrigues me is the team dynamic. There's a sort of angel vs devil thing going on in the unit. It's also interesting watching Gravely use Backstrom's "I am" technique. It'll be interesting to see if she starts adopting his interesting way of collecting evidence.

I'm afraid to like this show too much, but I'm falling hard.- please please please don't break my heart.

I watched this instead of the Finale of Project Runway - and don't regret it.

The mysteries don't matter to me all that much - I'm a Bones fan and gave up on the reality aspect several years ago.  This is a fun hour with great characters and good acting.

I'm in Love...there I said it!!!

I really wish I could be on the love train with boilergal and kaygeeret and the rest of you. But I'm on the hate train and about to get my coat and purse and disembark. Every single time I start liking the show, Backstrom opens his mouth. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Everyone's mileage varies, but Backstrom is straight-up offensive to me as well as one note.

Me too. But in the end, I thought it was consistent with his character which I liked. I strongly question whether eye witness testimony from Moto regarding HIS CURRENT SUPERIOR would actually have more weight than forensic evidence, but I'll just go with it.

I really liked how quickly and effectively Gravely came to Backstrom's assistance when he was being choked by the perp. Especially how instantaneously she reacted. And she's such a little thing, she sure got the job done.

I'm behind a few episodes, but I also loved that a big deal was not made of this. Gravely took the guy down and... that was it. No one made comments about how tiny she was. Or how it was rare a woman could hold her own. It was just... a thing that happens. I kind of love that.

I am also really loving Sarah Chalke and she's always been kind of hit or miss for me (did not like her in HIMYM very much). I honestly feel that she and Backstrom had real feelings for one another at some point.
