... and even after so many years it's still my constant...my touchstone - with regards to TV shows.

My X-files-problem also occurs when I discover totally farfetched X-files shout-outs in other TV shows.

References, like these?  :)   https://www.tumblr.com/tagged/x-files-references-are-my-favorite

So...this is sort of embarrassing, but I'm going to share it anyway because it does really show that I have a problem where XF is concerned.

So the other night I was watching some porn (that right there would be the embarrassing part) and I noticed a tattoo on one of the performers that's the letter "X" in the XF font (which, by the way, is one of the only things I've ever even semi-seriously considered getting as a tattoo myself).  Immediately I was thinking, 'Wait, is that an XF tattoo?  Or just the letter X and it happens to be the same font.  It's got to be XF, right?"  So I switched from watching porn to googling the actress's name along with "x-files" to see if I could confirm that it was in fact intended as an X-Files tattoo.  And I found a Reddit AMA she'd done where she talked about being a huge X-Phile (and being hot for David Duchovny) and said she was even watching XF while doing the AMA.  So then I checked out her Twitter and her Tumblr and saw she'd posted various XF things in the past.  And for some reason it was really exciting to me to discover that this woman is a 'Phile even though...I mean, she's just this chick I saw in a porn video.  It's not like I know her!

So anyway...yeah.  I might have a problem.  (More than one, likely.)

Hahaha! Thanks for sharing. Us X-Philes are everywhere.

Last weekend at a pre-party gathering a friend, who loves the show but isn't obsessed enough to know the titles, said she had just seen X-Cops and how she had forgotten how funny it was and then that she watched another one after she thought was creepy, describing the murders in Theef. And me immediately going, "Oh yeah! Theef! That's a good season 7 ep." The other two people present where like, you know the titles? O_o

smrou, I can't judge.  I'm dutifully searched on Bastille convinced someone associated with the band must be an X-Files fan after seeing the Pompeii video.  No such luck, though.

Bastille is the group with the Bad Blood song, right?  I've definitely heard that song and thought of XF.  Never seen the video though.  Then of course, there's Eve6, which is definitely an XF reference, and Barenaked Ladies' One Week, which contains a reference to CSM.  Which incidentally led to a whole other obsession (see my username) and a discussion of XF years and years ago with the lead singer after a concert once.  I learned he had a dog (or maybe a cat, I forget now but defintely a 4-legged pet) named Scully.

So yeah...I think we all have a problem. But I for one, am not complaining.

Yes, that's Bastille... their video for Pompeii looks like black oil eyes, hence my google-fu obsession between that and the song Bad Blood.  I think I may be reading too much into it, though.  :)

I didn't know that about Barenaked Ladies and the CSM reference.  Can't believe I've never caught that!  Going to have to look the lyrics up now.  I saw them in concert a couple years back; they were fantastic!  Also, had no idea your username was a band.  I always want to read it as Janet for some reason.  lol.

I had a cat named Spooky:

Your Spooky looked like my Lydia (named after Lydia Bennet... huge Jane Austen fan).

I love that picture of Spooky with the Mulder action figure. That's awesome.

One Week has the lyric "Watching the X-Files with no lights on/we're dans la Maison/hope the smoking man's in this one.' Caught my ear back in the day. Bought the album, loved it, and I've since seen BNL more times than I can count. It's a sickness. Jane St Clair is a girl in one of their songs. I've been janestclair online for ages.

I can't believe I didn't remember that lyric.  It's like in your face too.  I am a shamed X-Phile.  lol  I'm also clearly a lightweight BNL fan.  But they may be the best concert I've ever been to.

It's a rapid fire lyric, easy to miss. They put on an amazing show. If I admit how many times I've seen them I'll get that look in the gif in the first post. Haha.

Meanwhile I think I agree with you now that I watched the video. Definitely an XF vibe.

Yay, I'm glad you get the same vibe so I don't have to be alone in my crazy theories.  :)

I could never judge anyone for how many times they've seen a band live.  I've seen Over the Rhine more times than I could possibly ever count.

Holy crap!!

I had this entire episode of Leno on one of my XF tapes back in the day BUT I never thought to look for it on YouTube. Practically wore the tape out. Loved David playing the egg! My favorite part is when Ed (guitarist in this clip) walks David back to his mic after the guitar solo without missing a beat. LOVE. Too bad you can't really see the look on his face. That was the EXACT moment I decided I needed their entire back catalog. LOL.

Gotta love the 1998 VHS video quality. Thanks for finding that!!

So is it a problem when your XF problem feeds a whole new obsession?

I saw a post in another forum about Claymation and thought 'Celebrity Deathmatch'  then I went over to youtube and saw one about X Files that I have no memory of.  Now its on continuous loop.  Its like the perfect snark on X Files.

From Vancouver, Los Angles, and Vancouver again (and I can't believe that I remembered what that is referring to and proves I have a problem).  Men in Black vs. The X Files.

Oh, Celebrity Deathmatch, I remember it well.  By which I mean I specifically remember that one episode since it may be the only one I ever watched.  Mostly I remembered the end of it.

"Okay then, it looks like the action's finished down there."

"Yep, nothing left to see."

"Except Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny kissing."
"And nobody wants to see that!"

But I have to admit, rewatching it now I still find the whole thing pretty funny.

I still have that on a VHS tape somewhere.  One of these days I'll have to go through all my tapes of random XF stuff and see what I want to transfer to DVD; I'm sure that will be good for a laugh.  When, years ago, I finally went through my boxes (yes, plural) of XF magazines, books, clippings, etc. and tossed most of it, I wondered why my family didn't have me committed in 1997.

It's NOT fair! Even claymation M & S have a kiss scene that's better angled :P XD.

- You can play just about every theme on piano

- You not only have all the soundtracks on your ipod, but also every song that's featured in the series (Walking in Memphis, Wonderful Wonderful, Memories Child etc)

- You've converted your family and friends into x-philes

- You want to read Scully's senior thesis

- You "borrow" lines from the show all the time

- You know every episode by name

- You watch your favorite episodes over and over and never get tired of them

- You periodically lose interest, but in the end you always become obsessed with X-Files again =D

- You get reminded of them while watching a show that has nothing to do with the X-Files.

I had that happen recently. I was watching a Perry Mason movie (either the TCOT Notorious Nun or TCOT Musical Murder) and Perry told Della that it would be something if sometime in the next century doctors would be able to implant chips into people's brains. <-- not exact quote

It reminded me of when Scully had one implanted in her brain. Pretty creepy.

I knew there was a thread in which we discussed references to XF in other shows, movies, songs, etc. but it took me a while to find which one it was.  Anyway ...

I watched Tammy the other night during my free HBO weekend (thinking maybe the great cast means it's a better film than it looked from the ads ... it wasn't, and I should have gone with the free porn on Cinemax instead), and when Tammy and Pearl wake up in the woods, with their car surrounded by trees, confusing them as to how they even got in there (they were drunk), Tammy says, "This is some X-Files shit right here."  Nice to see it getting a shout-out in 2014.

You know you have an X-Files problem when you have a really detailed dream about watching an episode of the upcoming season and there's a point where Scully's arms get blown off and she runs into Mulder's arms, throws her bloody stumps around his neck, and they start making out. In the dream, I had to turn off the TV and come to terms with the fact that the new season was disappointing, but at least I would always have my MSR memories...

Eeek!

I had an XF dream the other night too, heh.  It was kind of a strange mishmash of old episodes and other shows.  In my dream, Scully and her daughter (?!?) were at a movie theater and there was a man there who had the ability to kill/maim people thru sex, but only Scully could tell that there was anything wrong with them afterward (kind of like Folie a Deux).  One of his victims was an older woman, to us she looked normal but Scully could see that her face and upper body had become deformed (like the Reapers from The 100).  At some point it became obvious that the man had picked out Scully's daughter as his next victim, and Scully was having to figure out a way to stop him without letting on that she could tell what was going on (like Odd Thomas).

I don't remember anything else about it other than William was there but it wasn't any big deal, and Scully referred to "her husband" at one point (making me squee even in my dream!) and the daughter had red hair and was about 14 years old.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's had X-Files related dreams before...

The weirdest one was about a year ago, when I was in the midst of rewatching the show and was going through 2-3 episodes per day.

I dreamed that I was a toddler in a grocery store. I also had the brain of a toddler and couldn't really understand language or form comprehensive thoughts, if that makes sense. I looked up at my parents and they were... Mulder and Scully! But they weren't "Mulder and Scully" in the dream, just my parents. I followed them around the store for a while and then we somehow got separated. I started crying and ran around the store, then raced outside to the parking lot. I went towards our car and could see them being taken away by shady government officials.

Not that exciting, I know. :P

Since I quit watching in season seven, all I know about Monica Reyes is what I've read.  And pretty much all that stuck is Monica = whale songs.

So, since anything I remotely associate with XF is something I primarily associate with XF, I got a good laugh during my recent re-watch of Cagney & Lacey:  There's an episode where Lt. Samuels is supposed to reduce his stress, and people keep annoying him with suggestions for how he can do so.  The straw that breaks the camel's back?  When Esposito plays him a tape of whale songs.

  • Love 2

Ok, so I am really excited the show is coming back...not for the show, but because this forum will populate.

Let me preface this by saying I've seen every episode at least 5 times and some as many as 50. All Things is my favorite because I like the Scully background and the ambient music is so amazing.

My most embarrassing moment is having my brother watch this show, getting to this episode, and reciting every like from the entire episode a few seconds before it happened.

I'm worried I could do this with more than just this episode, too.

  • Love 1

all things is just okay to me, but I definitely share your problem with several episodes -- I can quote Bad Blood, Small Potatoes, and José Chung's From Outer Space verbatim, and there are quite a few other episodes with which I can quote along for huge chunks.

A friend and I regularly get together at my place or hers for nights of drinking, eating, talking, and watching movies/TV shows.  I can't even hazard a guess as to how many of such nights have involved a viewing of one or more of the episodes I listed above.

I have an XF problem. But I'm coming here to ask for help. I bought a new flash drive and want to name it something XF related. I need to name it so it doesn't show up on screen as "removable drive d" (how boring). It can hold 16gigs, which is a lot of files. Lots and lots of files. See where I'm going with this? Any other great XF device or obscure names that would be good for a flash drive? Of course this is just for my own amusement when I plug the thing in, no one else will really see it or know I've named it anything in particular.
