Episode description

Carisi attempts to put aside his role as prosecutor to serve as a witness in a trial. Benson tries to help a rape survivor struggling with her recovery.

Will Carisi need to be excused from prosecuting this case or will they be violating protocol again? I see there won't be a social worker or shrink  assigned to help another rape survivor, who for some reason will have Benson there looking after her.

The Good:
The guest cast. They did a good job with the material, even when there wasn;t much to work with or where they were little more than scenery for the regulars.

Velasco. He also made the most of limited screen time,

Peter Scanavino. He did a really good job elevating some cliched material.

The Bad:
No B plot. It's good that they followed up on this story, but devoting a whole episode to it, with basically nothing for the squad to do was too much. If they had stuck more to the trial prep and tried to use it as a peg to show us the actual process for prosecuting a rape that was not open and shut that would be one thing, but this was just soapy melodrama.

Too much time with Benson playing shrink, and showing off her magic healing whisper.

Why wasn't this case being handled by a more senior ADA? It would seem that a hostage situation with an ADA would be handled by one of the senior staff. But I guess then it wouldn't have been believable to have Carisi trying to tell her how she should be prosecuting the case (Benson would have no problem explaining how the law should work to anyone, up to and including James Madison and Moses.)

Once again why isn't Fin playing a big part in this story? If you are going to bring back Rollins and get the band back together again, he should be there. He has a relationship with both Rollins and Carisi and could be a supporting mentoring figure without being some sort of heroic savior figure. Instead he's off on the sidelines with a couple of lines supporting Velasco.

Overall this was kind of a meh end to this arc. It did what it needed to do, but nothing more. Not a train wreck, but nothing special. It really felt like a space filler and not as special as the end of an arc with a special guest star should be. At least the previews for next week look potentially interesting.

Kind of a bland episode, while I really have liked how they’ve utilized the courtroom this year and have given Carisi stellar material, this didn’t have any twists or much meat to the story and so it kind of bored me. Fin was barely used, and Bruno is always missed when he’s MIA. It did a solid job of wrapping up this storyline but it was just an average episode in that there wasn’t a lot to keep my interest up.

Does anyone else think that Carisi was so out of line for threatening the defendant and that the judge should have thrown out the case because of his unprofessional behavior? This reminds me of the type of incident that happened when Det. Cassidy made threatening statements against an accused child molester at his trial. Why do they have to resort to these type of scenarios that demean law enforcement and officers of the court

A minor point but Olivia told Tess when she was in the hospital that her parents had been notified and were coming. They would certainly have been at the trial where Tess was testifying as a rape victim yet no trace of them….. Tess left with her friend who had been with her the day of the crime. Just thought it was odd that they were not seen at all.

It would be nice if we’d heard any kind of mention of Carisi having gone to therapy after this incident. We’ve seen Olivia and Rollins got to therapists after either traumatic experiences or as part of a return-to-work requirement, but it would be nice to see a man seeking help for a change (and would be a good message to the audience generally that men don’t have to just suck it up and be manly). It’s clear he needs it after losing his shit on the defendant during that trial which could have resulted in a mistrial.

Can the prosecutor be transported over to the mothership? I liked her.

She is quite good! Make it so please!

I did not expect to like this episode, but I did. Tess actress, Paige Herschell, is really good.

Is Carisi the most stylish man of the Franchise? I vote yes! Those suits fit him so nicely!
His character has been quite a win for the show's writers. They got it quite soon that the character and the actor could do better as DA and it worked just fine. We have to give them this, they do not enjoy many writing wins :D

I was surprised Benson didn’t immediately suggest Carisi go to her therapist since he’s so amazing. 🙄

once again we have the NYPD asserting jurisdiction where there is none. Were there ANY local Trenton cops or state troopers or did the NYPD just barge into a NJ residence and arrest the drug dealer?

snd why was a Brooklyn ADA assigned to s Manhattan case? Is Carisi the only Manhattan ADA n the payroll? If ever there was a time for a crossover, this was it. Price could have prosecuted the case. Of course he probably would have bungled it like he did the one he just handled, but still…🤷‍♀️

The Manhattan DA’s office would have had to recuse itself since their employee was a victim. This is a normal thing in real life— when there’s a conflict an interest, a prosecutor from another county is brought in to handle the case.
