chitowngirl March 23 Share March 23 Bruce and Alex give conflicting medical advice to a young athlete; Joyce competes with Tiger Woods in her alumni magazine; Matt and Serena (almost) drop an unconscious patient. Ms Lark March 26 Share March 26 Sorry, Joyce. Tiger Woods just trumped you this week! 1 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152550-s01e15-sometimes-it%E2%80%99s-good-to-be-cautious/#findComment-8617066
iMonrey March 26 Share March 26 This show just isn't very good, is it? I've tried to like it because I like the cast, but the writing just isn't there. I liked how Alex showed Bruce how a 1% chance could mean losing a year's salary to get her point across, and explaining she's the one who has to take care of the patients who come in with chronic pain while it's something Bruce never has to worry about. But it wasn't particularly funny, was it? 3 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152550-s01e15-sometimes-it%E2%80%99s-good-to-be-cautious/#findComment-8617273

The whole thing made Bruce look incompetent. Informed consent is a bedrock of medicine. You have to explain the risks to the patient regardless of whether they are low, and Bruce really didn't do that. That Alex would need to explain to him why that is important suggests a reckless doctor. I will admit to laughing at Bruce's OR story about how the patient could end up the most successful prostitute in Oregon. 4 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152550-s01e15-sometimes-it%E2%80%99s-good-to-be-cautious/#findComment-8617330

I like it, but we all have different tastes in comedy, so there's no right or wrong! 6 hours ago, txhorns79 said: The whole thing made Bruce look incompetent. To be fair, he did tell the patient that there was a chance of chronic pain. However, he shouldn't have glossed over that fact. He was eager to do the surgery, and with his ego, he thinks that just because he recommends it, the patient should fall in line. I liked Alex's approach much better. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152550-s01e15-sometimes-it%E2%80%99s-good-to-be-cautious/#findComment-8617711
Blakeston March 29 Share March 29 Bruce told the patient about the risk of chronic pain, but then said, "You're young and healthy, so you'll be fine." I'm not a medical professional, but it sounds to me like a violation of medical ethics to effectively tell a patient that they won't get side effects, particularly if it's an experimental procedure. I know we're supposed to Bruce as a loveable goof whose ego is just a little too big for his own good, but I find him to be an insufferable toxic narcissist (who isn't particularly funny). And of course the writers are putting him front and center, because for some reason almost all comedies nowadays revolve around toxic narcissists. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152550-s01e15-sometimes-it%E2%80%99s-good-to-be-cautious/#findComment-8620120
