S03.E10: If You Could Read My Mind

Recommended Posts

I have to say, I really loved this episode. I didn't know how they were going to wrap it all up, but they tied together almost everything, while still leaving a door open for next season.

All of the scenes of Colton figuring things out where great, but the scene where Alice met Colton when he figured everything out actually made me tear up. And I am so glad Del finally time traveled.

Some things I have to nitpick on though - was there a reason Del couldn't go with Colton to San Francisco to meet the record producer? I mean, I know the point was Del was his dream, not music. But still, couldn't he have both?

The stuff with Jacob getting caught was kind of shoved in there, but I guess they needed a reason for Casey to come back and reveal that the Goodwin's land is really the Landry's. That ties about loose ends about Casey and sets up lots of upcoming drama.

Did I hear 1974 Colton say he had a brother? Did we know that? I guess he will show up at some point now that they said it.

Yes, it's been mentioned a few times by different characters that Colton's brother took off at some point after their father died. Now that Elliot has read his mother's letter that indicates she decided to "jump" for "love", I assume she fell in love with Colton's brother while married to Vic, and she and Colton's brother jumped into the pond to tt and leave Port Haven, including Elliot, behind.

I'm also going to guess that Sam has now witnessed Jacob jump into the pond (without Jacob knowing) and that Casey is either Jacob's future daughter or granddaughter. She seems in awe of him, similar to when Alice met Colton.

But how did Sam know what he saw?  If a normal person saw Jacob jump in and not come back, they would assume the worst.  But Sam was calm as a cucumber.  So what does he know.

I loved this episode and teared up several times.  I loved seeing Colton realize who Alice was and talking to her.  And figuring out who Kat was after Alice said "my mom."  I felt more emotion with this one episode than with most of the others.  And I admit one of those emotions was "what the fu...?"

And if Casey is from Jacob's line of the family, I still want to know why she has Kat's ring.  And why her name is Goodwin instead of Landry.   Because I still think Alice is her own grandpa.

It could be that Sam knows Jacob from another time in the past, like Elliot has been Alice's talk -to in 1999. His anger toward Del about her not being "honest" about Jacob's return and then his angry/exasperated reaction the first time Del said Jacob left/ran off and she didn't know when he would be back, seemed like he's personally invested in Jacob not just upset for his girlfriend Del that her son's return was not easy.

It could be that Casey is actually Alice's granddaughter. I've read speculation that Alice has a daughter and she and Max Goodwin's son get together and have a daughter.

Another question I just thought of, because the whole thing is so convoluted...

When we see Elliot's mother and dude (presumably Colton's brother) jump into the pond, they leave the baby on the bank.  But then Colton finds the baby (Elliot) on their porch.  How did he get there?  Either it's a break in continuity or there is still someone else out there that knows something.

That’s a very good point! I have a feeling that it’s not a continuity issue. This show is too detailed for that kind of error.  I bet we’ll see how he got to their doorstep in a flashback next season.

As far as this episode goes, I really loved it. It made all of the odd flashbacks in this season fit together like puzzle pieces (sort of! LOL).

I was so relieved when they announced Season 4 🎈🎊🎈🎉

I've rewatched this again and it appears to me that the person kneeling over the basket is Casey.  Who probably was sent back in time to find the baby and move it to the porch.

Either way a bigger question for me is WHO raised the baby, assuming it was Elliot.  There is no way that Vic raised a baby.  I always assumed Elliot's mom took off when he was like 8 or 10 and he became latchkey kid and hung out at the Landry's when Vic was at asea. So, who actually raised Elliot?  Or did mom run off and come back and then run off again later?  Vic says she wore the wedding ring for "all of 2 minutes" so it would seem she didn't hang around for long.

So maybe Elliot's mom and Colton's brother jumped and end up in 1925. But then what happens to them from there?

And I still want to know why Vic is so pissed at the Landry's, far more than at the Goodwins.  It seems to be about more than just Colton 'causing' his brother's death, in the Founder's Day episode he talks about both families shitting on his since back to the beginning.
