S01.E14: Ripple Effect

Recommended Posts

I think the show just needs to make a decision. Let them be together and navigate how to work together as a couple, or break them up for good and go back to how they were work colleagues able to get along. They are not doing this angsty will-they-won't-they thing very well at all.

Also, why do they always make their big saves in the first few minutes and nothing for the rest of the show?

Agree.  It seems to me that this is not a rescue show at all, there's hardly any rescuing.  It's a relationship show.  And unfortunately, I don't feel strongly about any of the relationships that this episode was devoted to.

I don't care about the relationship between Hina and her mom or her cousin (or whoever the teen girl was supposed to be).  I did enjoy seeing Hina teaching the hula.  I can imagine that this actress is from Hawaii and grew up going to a dance class like this.  I like that she and her mom are committed to keeping tradition alive.

I don't care about the relationship between Sonny and his daughter.  I pretty much don't care about Sonny, at all.

Although I like both Will and Em, I am sick of this show being 80% focused on their relationship.  Em was acting like a wronged woman.  She's jealous that Will is talking to other women, when she is the onoe that dumped him.  She found out after the fact that Will dumped Julie, and had every opportunity to talk with him about this, but did not.  Will for some reason doesn't want to talk to her either.  Instead, Em uses the fire guy, who is a chump for full well knowing what she is doing but then goes through with it anyways.  Will went on a bad date and then has a random hookup with a woman who tells him she has a boyfriend but doesn't care.

Show needs to just decide, because it's beyond old.

As for the rescue itself, ehhh.  The friend shouldn't have pushed Will's fling but it was hardly her fault that a wave knocked her into that rock.  Boyfriend jumps in and hurts his ankle and then just clings to a different rock.  His girlfriend is unconscious and he can't even try to swim the ten feet over to her?  Um ok.  But she was wrong to blame him for doing absolutely nothing, he did jump in after her, but then he failed.  It would have been better if he too had been knocked unconscious.

I wanted to see if Kainalu got together with Hina's friend.  I thought Hina and Kainalu were going to get together after he almost died, she seemed very concerned about him, but this week they act like they're back to being co-workers and roommates.  Hina seemed jealous that Kainalu was talking with her friend.

Didn't Will dump Em? Then he went home and got dumped by Julie that night. IMO, Em is the wronged woman because she put herself out there and said she wanted to make it work with Will, and he agreed. He originally told her that he would dump Julie when Julie got home, but then he didn't do it and dumped Em instead.

Will also hooked up with the surfer or paddle boarder he rescued after he helped the male paddle boarder first. The cliff jumpers appeared to be teenagers or young college kids to me; they had on matching lacrosse team sweatshirts. I don't think Will would give in to someone so young.

My favorite relationship at this point is the platonic roommate friendship of Hina and Kainalu. I have no idea what Laka is doing anymore, and Sonny is better now that he realized he needed help before.

Ah my bad, you are correct.  These two are so wishy washy I got it wrong.  Will decided that Em was his person and he was going to dump Julie.  Then Laka said something about money.  Next we know, Will is telling Em that he is staying with Julie.  He goes to see her and she tells him that she knows he was with Em in the week she was gone and she dumps him.

Sorry, I must have been tired when I watched.  It was Laka and Kainalu that rescued the cliff jumpers, right?  Then Will rescued the two paddle boarders.  He sent the male one floating in on the board on his own and then went to rescue the woman.  How can the woman be blaming her boyfriend for not saving her, they were both in trouble?

I didn't understand her comment about her boyfriend at all. Maybe he stayed home and wasn't even on vacation with her? Like, those two people Will saved were unrelated?

So now my question is that if Will dumped Em to stay with Julie, only to get dumped in return by Julie, why does he act like he doesn't want to talk with Em?  She seemed receptive to being with him so why didn't he go back to her?  Embarrassment?  Shame?  "Hey, sorry, I made a mistake.  Can we start again."  Then see what she says.

She admitted to Adam Noshimuri (still don't know his name, but he seems to be a complete sad sack on this show) that she is not over Will and that she only used Adam to get back at Will.  So why doesn't she just go to Will and talk to him?

So irritating.  These people are pushing 40.  They're not teens in high school.

I agree with so many here.  I love the locale for the show.  I love that it highlights Hawaiian culture and uses actors who look like they could be native Hawaiians.

The everlasting Em/Will angst has me fatigued.  Both of them made a lot of mistakes in their relationship but...at this point I blame Will for the state of things.  The guy is a cheater.  If Julie was someone he cared about he should have told her he still was in love with Em and couldn't marry her.  But he didn't.  Then he planned to break things off and as soon as shallow as a puddle Laka says a word to him, he dumps Em like he just used her.  I laughed out loud when Julie dumped him.  His shock was a thing of beauty.  Now Em is reeling and he can't even be decent to her.  Enough.  I really wish she would fall for the nice guy.  Will is a loser, imo.

I don't like Sonny either.  I wanted to very much.  His actions after the accidental death of his nephew turned me against him.  It went on and on.  Now his daughter is a sneaky, lying, mouthy brat who really irritates me.  Ugh.

My favorites are Hina and Kainalu.  I am surprised that it turned out this way but there it is.  Oh and I do like  Em's stand in guy too.

Just a picky little point here.  Why does the show never mention sharks?  Hawaii is notorious for sharks.  One would think, watching this show, that the beaches patrolled never heard of sharks or shark attacks.  Incredible given that very recently a famous hawaiian lifeguard(Tamayo Perry), surfer died from a shark attack while surfing.
