S02.E05: Ghost Who's Coming to Dinner

Recommended Posts

Damn! Mr Martin's a bad dude. Janet's unhinged and not giving an inch.  Poor Mr Anderson. I'd forgotten about the flashing lights with no body.

Glad to see our ghosts growing!  Rhonda can now let go of feeling betrayed. Yuri leaving the safety of the pottery studio to help. And Maddie and Wally get to forget about their troubles. A reminder that Maddie getting her life back means Wally is left behind! Sad.

Guessing Mr Martin is how Janet gets back to the school. She wasn't going otherwise, so that kidnapping helps Maddie's cause. Maddie's mom will be so frantic that she's gone again.

So much happened in this episode, but the ghost kids meeting the living kids was amazing, I was absolutely dying, pun not intended. Simon and Wally's failed fist bump, the living kids getting way too close to the ghosts, and of course, Xavier's obsession with salt being the key to getting Janet out of Maddie.

"And use her to do body shots?"

"Oh my God I miss those."

Awww so many cute moments between Yuri and Charlie, Rhonda and Quinn, and Wally and Maddie. Wally is truly the perfect high school boyfriend, other than being dead for forty years.

I knew that something was up with the lights turning off in the last episode, Mr. Anderson has been possessed by Mr. Martin! Huge props to the actor playing Mr. Anderson, he really nailed Mr. Martin's body language and way of speaking in just his one brief scene. Peyton is also doing a great job as Janet in Maddie's body, her working on Maddie's laugh was super creepy, I feel bad for Janet but she's also pretty scary.

I really need to know more about whatever this experiment that Mr. Martin and Janet are doing is, I continue to wonder if they have something to do with the very high mortality rate of this high school. I feel like in most high schools, just one kid dying on campus would be a huge scar on the entire school for its whole existence, but here they lose a few kids a decade, enough to fill a homeroom. Its actually interesting that they seem to have had at least one death a decade since Martin and Janet died, you have Rhonda in the 60s, Dawn and Yuri in the 70s, Wally and the theater girl in the 80s, Charlie in the 90s, Quinn and the band kids in the 2000s, any of the ghosts who show up in the group scenes but don't speak much could be from the 2010's, and Maddie in the 2020s, even if she is not technically a ghost. Its probably because its fun to have characters from different decades in a story like this, but you have to wonder if its a coincidence that their schools mascot is the devils...

It's the high school equivalent of Hudson University on Castle. Or if you watched the Librarians, Wexler University, where "one in every five students disappears or transfers out in the middle of the night"

Students don't just die, they die on campus. A vortex of something going on.

So the ghost who talked to Xavier at the hospital ("Welcome to the the waiting room.") is Maddie's father. Xavier recognized him from the photo of him and Maddie at the house. I didn't pick up on that at first. The eagle-eyed folks at Reddit alerted me to it, but I did pull the episodes up to confirm. I'm curious to see what the payoff will be on that. I'm also curious to see what happens now that Nicole knows that Xavier is the one she's been texting.

I agree that Peyton List has been great at showing the differences between Maddie and Janet.

I find it interesting that all of the characters have gotten at least a hint of pairing up with someone, except Simon, lol. Speaking of Simon, I think it was him and the rest of the living crew that took Janet at the end of the episode.
