S23.E04: Chris Hayes; Rep. Byron Donalds; Tara Palmeri

He was on before and just as bad. We had a lot of discussion about it.

Now the narrative is that because Biden did it, Trump can. So no one can be the adults in the room? The larger context is that executive power is way out of control, regardless who is on there. Congress has been farming out their duties for decades. The president is only a tyrant that legislates by executive order only when you're not the party in power. It's really got to stop.

Please, is the guy who has all the defense contracts going to audit the defense budget with the same vigilance as .7% of the budget?

No one is arguing that auditing spending isn't a good idea. Clinton tried it. But either you're trying to gaslight everyone into forgetting about due process or you're just delusional.

I'm sorry though; just acknowledging your institution or company is on tribal lands isn't why Harris lost. They do it in red states too.

I don't know if I buy Bill's theory that all this virtual signaling lost the election. I think the electorate is just largely uninformed and people not voting were far more important factors.

I’m sure virtue  signaling was part of it.  But not voting, not reading, bias toward believing the white man over the black lady , hatred of others, and many other things contributed as well.

Donalds really likes pretzels so much he emulates the twists so he can support trump.  The BLM protests were not equivalent to the Jan 6 riots so the investigation is definitely political.

Palmari could have been stronger to push back.

i did like Bill’s comment that oh trump saying announcing we are doing criminal things is ok, but Biden not saying we are doing non criminal things is not ok?

Hayes was fine but I would have liked him better on the panel.

i have to pay to watch the Super Bowl either way, pay for cable tv so I can access Fox or pay for Hulu.  No tv is really free anymore.

This just seems far more of a component for me. I would agree that Harris should have walked back the comments she made in the past, but I just don't recall hearing anything from the campaign in terms of lgbt legal protections being the main issue for them. I support a candidate saying 'The purpose of the DOJ is to make sure all Americans are equally protected under the law, whether you vote for me or not.' So maybe they could have been clearer then. However, given the stark drop off between 2020 80+ million voters and 2024 63? That's the reason for me. Could virtue signaling been part of it? Maybe. I think it's more just being stupid and 'bothsidesism'.

I'm eagerly awaiting a potentially upcoming pbs newshour segment in Michigan to hear what everyone thinks of the plan for the US to occupy Gaza.

Also BLM protesters who broke the law were prosecuted just like J6. Except Biden didn't pardon any BLMers.

I've heard the equivalency of the loan forgiveness plenty of times, and no one calls it out for the canard that it is. Biden was working within the existing purview of the Heroes Act. Yes, it was ruled that his executive order was outside that. He did try other ways. One of the other ways, was in fact legal. There's the law that says if you work in the public sector for 10 years, your loans are forgiven. That was within the purview of the law.

Like I said, I agree that executive power, this century, has been escalating at alarming levels. That is actually a both sides issue. The solution is Congress to assert their Article I powers. Get back to normal order and budgeting. Donalds was being a bit whiny. "We requested documents and they wouldn't give them." Hey, you got a jail there. Subpeona the records. Sure, you tend to go to court over a subpeona because you can't just pull a fishing expedition. Was your subpeona in good faith? Did you issue one? Did they refuse? Then hold them in contempt and throw them in jail until they comply. Give me a real example. Otherwise, you're grandstanding.

Some people already have some regrets at voting for Trump or not voting for Harris and seeing Trump win.

For instance, Venezuelans in the Miami area voted for Trump, now angry that he targeted their community for deportation.  The naturalized citizens aren't at risk, for now.  But their friends and family members were deported, going back to Maduro to be persecuted.

Then Muslim-Americans in Dearborn, MI and other key swing states either voted for Jill Stein or didn't turn out at all or some outright voted for Trump, who's now talking about sending US troops to clean Gaza out of any remaining Palestinians, so he can build a new riviera with oceanfront resorts.

Bill obviously would like his narrative to be the reason that Trump won, that the Democrats focused too much on LGBTQ issues or were punished for being woke.

What a crock.

It's a one-off for me. I gave up on RT ages ago. I'm mainly interested in the Chris Hayes interview.

Though I'm a little sympathetic to Bill when it comes to phone updates and the current state of tech.

It would have been nice if Chris Hayes had spoken more about his book, which I'm actually interested in, rather than wasting his time being an obsequious sycophant for Bill.

🤷‍♀️ Chris has been in media long enough to know he has to tailor the message for each audience. But I was a little disappointed too.

I have the book on hold at the library. I usually wait for the paperback or the price of the Kindle version to come down.

It depends where you live.  I can get all the major networks and about 20 other channels for free with an HD antenna.

In some instances the picture looks better because it's not being compressed for streaming or shoved through a box, and sporting events are a good 10-15 seconds ahead.
