Gemma Violet December 22, 2024 Share December 22, 2024 A couple of hours ago, the double user names went away, but the really bad wonkiness came back. Clearing the cache didn't help, but I came back 10 minutes later and all was fine. So now I'm OK. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151185-board-display-wonky/page/2/#findComment-8538778
AllAstronauts December 23, 2024 Share December 23, 2024 I just ran a system upgrade to the latest version. There *might* have been a tiny bug that when a routine task to clear out old files ran, it caught a signal from the clear caches thing and unsynced some javascript files. That might be why things work for awhile and then buttons stop working and images stop loading. Anyways, give it a bit then yell if there are problems. 3 2 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151185-board-display-wonky/page/2/#findComment-8539154

I couldn’t respond or post in this thread, nor was I able to create a new topic! But everything seems to be back to normal now. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151185-board-display-wonky/page/2/#findComment-8539156
AllAstronauts December 23, 2024 Share December 23, 2024 Incredibly frustrating as things are rebuilt fine, then a task that runs 3 hours later throws some cached JS files out of sync and then the file names do not match so they don't get loaded. Hoping this is it. 1 1 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151185-board-display-wonky/page/2/#findComment-8539159
shapeshifter December 23, 2024 Author Share December 23, 2024 (edited) Incredibly frustrating as things are rebuilt fine, then a task that runs 3 hours later throws some cached JS files out of sync and then the file names do not match so they don't get loaded. Hoping this is it. So, is this sort of intervention not advisable going forward?: Cleared forum caches again. FYI: I quoted these using the direct quote feature, so not sure why the authors are not showing. The second quote is by @CM-BlueButterfly. But the curvy arrows do direct to the original quote, so maybe more cache disconnects, which is kind of to the point of MY QUESTION(S) : Can clearing the actual forum’s cache (not users’ browsers’ caches) cause more wonkiness? And if a mod clearing the forum's cache does create more wonkieness, is that good/necessary/temporary wonkieness? Or is it unnecessary and slows down the board software from getting back to normal? Or…? P.S.: Feel free not to make this comment live if it’s too confusing. GHScorpiosRule December 23, 2024 Share December 23, 2024 I am noticing this morning that the blue line indicating new or unread replies is gone, but we do see text stating where normally the blue line would be. Also, when marking a thread read, the blue boxes of that would normally have the text "cancel' and "okay" are invisible. And as the poster above stated, quote attributions to other posters are missing. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151185-board-display-wonky/page/2/#findComment-8539232
AnimeMania December 23, 2024 Share December 23, 2024 When you click the "Mark Read" button for a thread, it works fine, but there is no instruction text and the buttons are not labelled. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151185-board-display-wonky/page/2/#findComment-8539250

AllAstronauts December 23, 2024 Share December 23, 2024 This is all on the server end; dealing with it. Mayhaps there is a wild conflict with the S3 (not AMZ) storage so I moved all the theme/css/js stuff back to the server for hosting. All blessings to Krampus, may this bring merriment to the holidays. 1 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151185-board-display-wonky/page/2/#findComment-8539267

ebk57 January 30 Share January 30 The forum has narrowed on my computer screen (Chrome, Version 132.0.6834.111 on a PC laptop) About 2 inches of gray space on each side started appearing a couple of days ago. Everything still looks normal, just narrow. Don't know if this is a "me" issue, or if something is changing. Thanks for reading. CM-BlueButterfly January 30 Share January 30 It sounds like what's happening to me. If it is, it may be that you just need to readjust the page width. 🙂 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151185-board-display-wonky/page/2/#findComment-8567076
ebk57 January 30 Share January 30 OMG, you're my best friend!!! Thanks! (Did that just happen because? Or did I do something to make that happen?) 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151185-board-display-wonky/page/2/#findComment-8567080
CM-BlueButterfly January 30 Share January 30 To me, it always happens just because, although, with some regularity. I haven't paid close enough attention but it's possible that's every month or so. 🤷♀️ 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151185-board-display-wonky/page/2/#findComment-8567081
AllAstronauts January 30 Share January 30 The screen width toggle button on the bottom of the screen is not a traditionally stored setting, its just a browser cookie, and that means per-device. So your phone has a cookie, your tablet, your desktop, laptop, etc... Anytime your browser flushes those out for whatever reason, you'll lose your choice... until you hit the toggle again which sets the cookie and life continues ever onward. Note these cookies have an expiration date of effectively never so your device will only lose these when cookies get wiped out through you clearing your browser caches or ??? There's going to be a dedicated Primetimer settings button fairly prominent in the new hotness dropping soon. Not entirely sure if I'll stick with cookies or just store the settings for real so you'll always have them no matter what. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151185-board-display-wonky/page/2/#findComment-8567463

One thing for you to consider in making that decision, some of us visit the site on different devices, and may prefer one setting on, say, a phone, and a different one on a pc. AllAstronauts January 30 Share January 30 Yeah, that's why I'm leaning cookies. I mean, I could just pull a device signature and then could store across everything but man.... lots of other things time better spent on.
