babyrambo December 8 Share December 8 Don’t know too much about this genre but so far this is the mildest apocalypse ever. Things almost felt cozy, even with the rat attack, which would’ve been my final straw. Nnot that I would’ve even made it that far; I never get why people want to survive so much in these situations, because I love my 21st century spoils; no matter how ‘calm’ the apocalypse, the idea of going back to basics & rebuilding my piece of the world from the ground up sounds absolutely hellish. I’m sure the person they showed at the end will introduce some tension, but I don’t mind the more lax vibe. Though the writing is still rough. I didn’t expect or want them to have deep philosophical discussions, but the dialogue is still so flat, artificial, and sometimes juvenile, that it takes me out of the moment. The chemistry between the leads is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Although I didn’t for one second buy that Emma would just up and move in with a strange man so quickly. Nor did I care for the pregnancy plot, because there’s no way all the pharmacies/ grocers/corner stores weren’t still stocked with condoms and other contraceptives. But unexpected babies seem to be an apocalypse staple so of course. I also didn’t like them just putting their address out there for anyone to know because low population or not, bad people still exist and will likely be even more dangerous in a situation like this but I guess they needed to get things moving somehow. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151003-s01e02-the-space-between/#findComment-8527759
ribboninthesky1 December 10 Share December 10 I'm usually not interested in post-apocalyptic shows, but this one has intrigued me so far. I don't mind the pacing, at least not yet. I questioned this too, but a couple of scenes later on kind of explained it for me. Emma talked about how she missed people, community. And we see her crying while looking at family photos. I originally thought that the picture of young girls was of her and her sister/cousin. But after she mentioned losing two children, I'm thinking it was a picture of them. She seems more extraverted, and while I relate more to Ish's introversion/loner nature, I can only imagine how hard it must be for someone who relished community and family to be utterly alone. Listen, I watched this episode forever grateful for butchers and grocery stores where I can buy the cuts of meat I want without having to hunt. I know people who relish living off the land and such, but I appreciate modern conveniences. Quote Nor did I care for the pregnancy plot, because there’s no way all the pharmacies/ grocers/corner stores weren’t still stocked with condoms and other contraceptives Especially after we see them stocking up. And it's not like Emma moved in and they had sex the same day. Plenty of time and opportunity to grab some. Because I understood Ish's initial hesitation (no docs, no hospital) more than Emma's "my body was made for this!" perspective. I'd be terrified of carrying a child to full term in such circumstances, and no I don't care that women did it for millennia before modern medicine. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151003-s01e02-the-space-between/#findComment-8529168
Anela Wednesday at 06:04 AM Share Wednesday at 06:04 AM (edited) They are very sweet together. I had to fast-forward through the parts with the animals, and also the birth. I was also pissed at his initial reaction to her news, and that she’s been afraid to tell him. They’d been having sex, pregnancy happens. I also wouldn’t have spray-painted my address in town. I would have left a different address, to check once or twice a week. Depending on how often they go. The library, for instance.
