Snazzy Daisy November 19 Share November 19 They hire Karen Robinson to play Miss Nancy. You know from the get go that she’s not just gonna be the sweet and doting Miss Nancy. So the predictable twist falls flat. OVERALL: I expect a crime thriller but what I get is a tedious drama that’s 3 episodes too long. The grief part is a bit overwhelming. Alex Cross in this series is not believable as a brilliant detective with a PhD in Psychology. He’s too frantic and temperamental. He’s a resolute guy but he isn’t that savvy. Alex isn’t an attentive father either. Grieving over Maria is not an excuse to delegate almost everything to Nana Mama and sometimes to Two John. Is Maria really the love of his life? He’s already dating someone else within a year of her passing. I like Aldis Hodge in some other projects but not this. He keeps doing this wide-eyed stares multiple times. What is he trying to emote? I would rather watch Luther for a good thriller with a tormented detective. 😘 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150586-s01e08-you-had-me-at-motherfucker/#findComment-8511591
catherinejane November 22 Share November 22 overall i enjoyed but some plot bits i didn't understand (covering 7 and 8) How did Cross Know Ramsey was in the hospital/in that room? Surely he would be charged with 11 murders to give all those families closure? why were the watchers of the live streams not pursued beyond the plastic surgeon. Or did the "speaker" only know of the lady in the house and not the whole extent and kept quiet due to blackmail shown earlier (but i thought she was into the whole book thing) I only realised at the end that the lady detective wasn't a private detective but FBI and actually called Kyla Craig, which is a change from the book FBI agent Kyle Craig. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150586-s01e08-you-had-me-at-motherfucker/#findComment-8514653
MicheleinPhilly November 22 Share November 22 Overall I enjoyed this. But I have no loyalty to any other iteration of Alex other than Morgan Freeman. I did think it went on a bit too long but it was a nice, brainless way to relax after work and I'm happy it has been renewed. But that episode with Alex calling the radio station DESTROYED me, for personal reasons. 😭 I went through the entire series thinking the FBI agent was played by Linda Cardellini. 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150586-s01e08-you-had-me-at-motherfucker/#findComment-8514776

The grief is believable and I'm glad they are allowing the space to show a Black man being emotional without emasculating him. There is no way a loss that devastating wouldn't impact his work and other relationships, especially not a year into the grief process. What I do find annoying is that they are trying to do too much. You can't have this man working through grief, figuring out the new normal that is his life without his wife, and navigating a demanding job, AND a serious relationship at the same time. Pick a struggle! Like you, I'm not feeling Elle and her place in the narrative. Her inclusion feels forced and takes away from the story. I want to like her but I can't because she's being written in a way that comes across as someone hell-bent on taking up the space that Maria still occupies in spirit instead of occupying her lane. In a nutshell, she is giving big "Pick Me" energy. Miss Nancy gave such good villain that I need Ms. Robinson in a horror film ASAP. 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150586-s01e08-you-had-me-at-motherfucker/#findComment-8516292

All good questions that the show glossed over. I was also confused (but not really surprised) by the Miss Nancy reveal. Her motivation seemed outlandish to me, especially since she was the one who talked the white girl into taking the fall for a crime she didn't commit. And was the young man her actual son? The social worker called her a "street mom," so I wasn't sure. Overall, I'm ambivalent. Started out bad, interesting in the middle, but petered out towards the end. Would I watch season 2? Maybe. If nothing else, eye candy! 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150586-s01e08-you-had-me-at-motherfucker/#findComment-8517871

I'm pretty sure she was an unlicensed foster mom which the system chooses to look the other way about in a street justice way. In this case the cops think the one case is grisly enough to ensure the maximum penalty and they are taking away his secondary dream. But we have the mid credits scene where Bobby Trey turning states witness for his 2 year sentence keeps the famous manifesto out and maybe or maybe not the prosecutor goes ahead with more murder charges. The public understands stuff like insufficient evidence to take all the cases to trial, only conspiracy theorist would keep looking. The mid credits scene left me thinking she is too cool sitting there with a killer who had already shown superpowers surviving Cross' gun. They should have at least shown some agents covering her. To go with her lone agent route we get the best friends making up, great. But then without more backup to the gunfight. They had the killer talk like an experienced hunter only to have his victim get up and bust in with DMX blaring in the soundtrack had me eye rolling once again. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150586-s01e08-you-had-me-at-motherfucker/#findComment-8520166
Hanahope November 30 Share November 30 I have not read many books so I have no real preconceived ideas. I liked Hodges a lot so I am a bit biased towards him. That said I did find the plot of him already maybe interested in Elle a bit far fetched after losing his wife only a year ago. But she did seem necessary to the story here and I guess they could not have it be too long after Maria’s death. having Ms Nancy be involved answered a lot of questions as to how certain things probably happened. good on Two John on playing dead. wonder if there was any way to go after Ramseys many accomplices with the swirl tattoo. Like coffee shop guy. Probably not. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150586-s01e08-you-had-me-at-motherfucker/#findComment-8520984
