The only other current criminal court shows that I can thing of are some  Special Victims Unit's  and The Lincoln Lawyer

I don't think I've watched those lately. Maybe it was an old rerun I watched recently?

Re the cold open, who only applies to one university? Anyone other than a guaranteed legacy admission, that is.

Early guess: the perp is a parent of the girl who didn't get into Northwestern. (ETA: Nope. It was a fellow student at the prep school. Close though.)

I didn't realize people had to test into AP English. Do all schools do that now?

It's curious to me how Brady decides which perps to interview herself instead of letting Riley and Shaw do it.

Ditto comments upthread, I agreed with tossing the confession. Brady clearly noticed the girl's neurodivergence-related anxiety and took advantage of it to wrest the confession from her.

Meh, not really interested in Brady's problematic adult child but I guess for this case her situation with him was sort of her personal interest angle.

Maybe decisions about which students get extra time should be made by more than one person. Less opportunity for a single individual to get a target on their back.

Nobody was concerned that the killer would kill again the next time she was stressed???

That's exactly what I thought when the mom sacrificed herself for the daughter. What'll happen the next the girl decides murder is the best option and she doesn't have a parent to take the blame? Maybe she'll be able to share a prison cell with her mom.

The version of this show I want to watch is one in which Brady does a Lennie Briscoe-ish mutter like: "At least my son doesn't beat people to death" as she's dialing his number.

Most if not all AP teachers evaluate every student who wants to take their class to see if it is appropriate for them. How they do this evaluation is dependent upon the school and the number of students wanting to take the class. I can see an elite prep school doing an actual test to determine suitability mostly to cover their own asses. When all of your students are high achievers and their parents are active in their child's education, you have to have some kind of baseline to exclude and an unbiased exam can be that baseline.

Stone & McCoy had more success defeating motions to suppress confessions based on police deception. The Miranda speech should be amended as follows:

You have the right to remain silent

and we have the right to deceive you

I thought that Price built up a great defense for the girl, that the school was giving away extra time to those whose parents bought it and penalizing the kids who genuinely needed the time because of learning or emotional issues. And then suddenly he's using to prove motive.

WTH is wrong with this show? Last episode a traumatized 13 year old was tried as an adult after being lied to, and this episode the corrupt system wins. I never thought that the lawyers were supposed to be the bad guys.

At the least, I wanted the episode to end in a public scandal for the school because of how they were basically selling high grades to rich students.

If everyone gets extra time then it's not extra. And then paying clients stop paying for what's free.

Not everyone got it, and many of those who did were the children of rich parents who basically bought their neuro-normal kids extra perks rather than the kids who genuinely needed it.

Something I thought was going to turn in to something is that in the mom’s testimony she kept saying we. WE worked so hard to get her in, WE finally made it, WE thought it would save us etc.

For parents of kids who are neurodivergent or with learning disabilities, it really becomes a "we" thing, researching the best way to scaffold and support them.  Especially now when information is easy to find over the internet, many parents know more about how to treat these conditions than teachers or counsellors do.  A friend of mine could not find knowledgable tutors for her daughters so she did her own research and founded her own specialized agency.

Stone had a case involving a death at an electroshock clinic for kids... one of the mothers constantly cheated on computer tests for her son to keep him there. Unfortunately, Stone proved her cheating in court and used it to shut the clinic permanently. After the verdict, she asked Stone rhetorically if he would take care of her son.

That was McCoy, not Stone. The episode was Cruel and Unusual from Season 5. Interesting but a very sad episode with no real easily solution.
