First season this show was about a psychiatrist — or are they psychologists, can’t remember — who’s having difficulty coping with the loss of his wife and now trying to raise his teen daughter by himself.

The main thing was that several of the characters had no boundaries, with Jimmy taking in his patient in his home and just mixing his professional, social and familial circles.

Maybe it could be portrayed as a sign of his grief but what about the other characters?  Jimmy and Gaby start to have an affair and the people who find out make jokes about it.

Gradually, if they weren’t having sex with each other, Jimmy’s colleagues and his patient and friends started getting into each other’s business.

The one who didn’t have any boundaries was Liz, the next door neighbor, played by Christa Miller, the wife of the show runner.  Liz was kind of like Kramer from hell, not just a nosy neighbor but someone who wouldn’t leave people alone.

It appears from the first two episodes of season 2 that Liz’s role is expanding.  She’s not developing into a more rounded character, just more of her cartoonish antics.

She shows up in Gaby’s class and then prevents one of the students from talking to Gaby.  How does anyone put up with her?  They must think her lines and antics are so funny.

In another scene, Liz asks her husband if they can pay a teen girl to fuck their son.

Such a wit but it would be consistent with the character to mean what she said.

There’s a bit of Liz in other characters such as Brian, who says ‘fuck you’ to random people on a hiking trail and then asks Grace, as her lawyer, if she knew Jimmy and Gaby were fucking.

PauL objects to Jimmy’s professional behavior, takes Sean, the patient who lives at Jimmy’s house, from Jimmy.  Why doesn’t he fire Jimmy?  Grace may have a case for suing Jimmy and Paul.

He makes a joke about Jimmy and Gaby — “our doctors fuck.”  Then the three of them are discussing each other’s patients, by names.  No doctor-patient confidentiality?  Paul says he’ll have to drop a patient because he is taking on Sean.  Gaby says it’s his favorite patient, suggest they can still socialize?  So apparently they discuss which patients they like.

Gaby confronts Jimmy, did he know that she was starting to have feelings for him while they were having their affair, yet took advantage of that so they would keep having sex?

Not cool.

Even sweet Alice is messed up, now that she has a drivers license, she goes to stalk Roy Kent, who is the drunk driver who killed her mother.

Did he (take advantage)?  Or was he too starting to "catch feelings" but couldn't bring himself to admit it?  I thought it could go either way.

Why isn't the drunk driver who hit & killed Jimmy's wife in jail?  Surely he would have been found guilty of some sort of manslaughter charge and had to serve time, wouldn't he?  I don't remember how much time has passed since her death, but I'd think he'd be locked up.

I thought of this too. I believe it’s been a little over a year since the accident. The case could still be pending and the driver is out on bail. Or he could have been convicted of misdemeanor vehicular homicide with a maximum of a one year sentence, served his time and now is out. We really don’t know the circumstances of the crash. It could have been the guy’s first offense with no other record. He could have had a low alcohol level. Tia’s driving could have contributed in some way. I suspect we will find out more in future episodes that there were mitigating circumstances.
