Finale!

RIP Mt. Midoriyama. Actually, that should be “Mt. Midori” or “Midoriyama.”

Just call it Vermont.

I am going to root for the oldies - Sean Bryant and Joe Moravsky.  In the name of the show as it used to be, I am not really interested in kids who have been training obstacles all the frigging time.  Ninja was fun when it was regular people with regular lives who also happened to have fun on obstacles, now it's just another 'pro' sport.  If you make it 'pro' then it should be the expectation of everyone completing the course and just some doing it faster OR doing it prettier/showing off whatever.  They are just trying to go all three routes at the same time and as a result it's not really coherent or doing anything that well.

PS  OK, Sean is out.  Joe.  And Jason Thwait.

As if they heard our discussion from last week, a Bergstrom joins a Beckstrand on Stage 4 :)

For some reason I thought Austin Grey fell last week... now that I know he is still in the running, I am definitely rooting for him.

I was rooting for Joe to win. Heartbreaking he fell on the very last part. I'd have been okay with Sean or Austin, too. Now I've lost track of who's left to try it.

Nacssa Garemore hanging from one arm in the middle of the course asking "Am I allowed to rest?" gave me a good laugh, though.

OMG Akbar calm down.

Did we know Joe played the piano? Hope he doesn't end up with a scar to remember this night by.

I feel bad for Joe's wife more than I feel bad for him.  She is the one who has to carry the load while he is spending all his time at the gym.  I hope he has good sponsorships to show for it, at least.

Vance is the only kid I am rooting against, simply because I don't think twice in a row is a good thing.

I will be rooting for Nacssa and the Bergstrom kid (forget his first name) on Stage 4.

And I think having five people going to stage 4 is kind of ridiculous in and of itself.

. . . and Vance Walker wins again by a margin of 2.30 seconds. At least Caleb Bergstrom made him sweat for a few minutes.

Commercials touted a women’s championship, but that aired in May.

Give me a call when the producers wise up and go back to the better blueprint.

Yes he did have cerebral palsy.  He did a tremendous job but I still would have preferred a different winner.  I would not allow previous winners to compete - but they can't decide if they are a game show or a sporting competition, so it is what it is.

On a separate note, I would like to award my personal 'worst episode editing' prize to the editors of ANW.

This season is over, and I am undecided about next year, but I guess I will watch just to see how the changes in format work out...

I missed it then and never got around to watching on demand. I noted it so maybe I'll watch it if I remember to check my chart (I check the TV listings and note what I want to watch for the next couple weeks so I only turn on the TV when I know there's something on). There's nothing else on that night except Jeopardy.

I know; I was being sarcastic because they said it like four times.

So when they mention their ages, were they saying the actual current age or the age they would be when the season aired?

My guess is that Matt and Ackbar's commentary is recorded separately after the season is filmed and edited, because we know the runs don't go in the order shown, but they sure make it sound like they were.  So they would be using the age as of the airing date instead of the taping date...

I don't know if knowing that Vance won twice in a span of essentially just a week makes it more or less impressive.  On one hand, he didn't let the win go into his head, so it's tremendous mental strength and focus.  On the other hand, if he was in prime physical condition and his competitors weren't, then no wonder it was the same result twice.  Either way, I think it wasn't a good idea and that's probably why it wasn't widely announced and probably isn't widely known by broader audience, just those who closely follow the show news...

I like Vance and his backstory.  He's accomplished a lot through hard work and determination.  As a parent, I always think about what his parents must have gone through raising a child with CP, worrying about his future and then having the wisdom (and guts) to allow him to pursue physical challenges.  I give everyone in the family a lot of credit.

I was not happy to learn that both seasons were filmed in one week.  I understand why they did it but it feels a lot like being lied to.  I haven't really enjoyed it since they lowered the age requirement and brought in so many teenagers and I hate the side-by-side racing when ANW was always about people competing with themselves more than with others.  I may watch the beginning of the next season just out of curiosity but I think I'm basically out.

Vance confirmed the two “seasons” were filmed in 6 days!

Uh, yeah. As I posted multiple times because I attended the Stage 1 finale filming. Including last June the day after. Matt and Akbar were right there on set just like it's shown. Vance won three day apart. The airhorn is probably overdubbed in post production because it was actually hard to hear unless you were standing right at the end. And the signs the audience are shown waving are handed out by production and swiftly collected as soon as the run is over. They must have held some people back to be rookies on the 'new season'.

They filmed another women's competition the next night. Can't remember if there was anything else like a skills test. If they are going to film in October and tickets are available again I will go.

The TV listing says what is airing next week is Season 15, Episode 16 (it's also not marked as new). I guess the Season 16 Women's Championship will air before the next season starts?
