Landman is an adaptation of the 11-part podcast "Boomtown" a story about the roughnecks and wildcat billionaires of the Permian basin, America’s highest-producing oil field, in the middle of the biggest oil boom in American History that has seen America become the world’s largest oil producer. With the record production comes record investment and with all that money, comes a lot of good and evil, an oil boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.

A "Landman", an oil speculator, is a person who tries to acquire the mineral and land rights in certain areas in the hopes of finding oil.

Landman tells the story of Tommy Norris, a crisis management executive for an oil company, he deals firsthand with people who live through this up-and-down and dangerous lifestyle, from roughnecks, wildcatters, rig workers and their families, to the investors that fund the boom, the government agencies that regulate it, and secures his company’s interests in the oil fields of the different cities around his hometown, the Permian Basin, such as Midland, Odessa, and Andrews. Tommy Norris is a busy man, there is always a crisis for him to solve.

Everyone congregates at the local diner, the Patch Café. These remote Texas border towns have two booming industries, oil and drugs, and this is the place where they intersect.

Jon Hamm as Monty Miller, a titan of the Texas oil industry who has a long personal and professional relationship with Tommy Norris.

Demi Moore as Cami, wife to Monty Miller, one of the most powerful oil men in Texas and friend of Tommy Norris

Dani Raen as Grace Miller, daughter of Cami and Monty Miller

Rylie Rodriguez as daughter of Cami and Monty Miller

Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, a crisis manager for an oil company.

Ali Larter as Angela, Tommy’s extravagant ex-wife.

Michelle Randolph as Ainsley Norris, the wild and strong-willed seventeen year old daughter of Tommy Norris

Jacob Lofland as Cooper Norris, Tommy Norris' son who is new to the demanding work in the oil and gas fields of West Texas.

Colm Feore as Nathan, an oil company attorney and administrator.

Kayla Wallace as Rebecca Savage, an extremely capable and intimidating liability attorney sent to West Texas to clean up a mess

James Jordan as Dale Bradley, a petroleum engineer and a blue-collar bear of a man who manages and works with roughnecks in the oil fields. He’s also Tommy Norris’ roommate.

Mustafa Speaks as Boss, one of the more experienced roughnecks on Tommy's crew, who's tough-as-nails and has seen it all.

Mark Collie as Sheriff Walt Joeberg, a West Texas sheriff

Paulina Chávez as Ariana, a young mother whose family has suffered a misfortune.

Octavio Rodriguez as Antonio, a hard man who is angry when his family suffers a tragedy.

J.R. Villarreal as Manuel, an oil crewman who is looking for reprisal after a disaster.

Andy Garcia will play Galino, an extremely capable, powerful and practical man.

Michael Peña as Armando Medina, a veteran roughneck tasked with introducing a rookie to the life of an oil rig worker.

I could do without the ex wife and daughter drama, as it seems Tommy has enough on his plate.

Spoiler

I had a feeling Michael Pena wouldn't be around too long. He's a big enough star that he would have been in the promos if he was going to be a cast member long term.

I don't know why Sheridan is so compelled to write female characters who are so ridiculous.  He has written great female characters in Wind River, 1923 and Lioness, and yet he keeps giving us characters like Beth Dalton, and Tommy's ex and daughter.

The actor who plays the petroleum engineer I swear has been in 90% of Sheridan's projects.

The 17-year-old daughter looks like and is played by a 27-year-old.  Totally unbelievable.  Can't they find an 18-19 year old actor for at least a little credibility?

My favorite part of Mad Men was the father-daughter relationship between Don and Sally, so that's making the father-daughter, or...whatever you call this, even grosser and more foul. Agree with @SeanBug--this stinker would definitely not pass the Bechdel Test.

Kiernan Shipka was amazing even as a young child.  I saw a brief interview with her the other day and she said if she's on a date or out and runs into Jon it's like seeing her father. She gets embarrassed and he probably treats her like a daughter.

The scene in the second episode of Landman when the daughter is trying to find coconut oil in the pantry and the camera is just panning up and down her backside was disgusting.  There is absolutely no need for this type of thing in a show about the oil industry. Unless Sheridan is trying to prove every cliche about that type of woman in Texas.  And then the daughter decides Crisco will work just as well for tanning oil.  Unfortunately I know some young women who aren't in TX but are exactly like this character.  You just roll your eyes and think "God help us".   I guess young women thinking all they have going for them is their looks is still a thing.
