S11.E12 : Then There Were Three ( Semi-Finals)

This is the strongest final three in all the seasons of this show.  All three were fantastic in the singoff.

Clock (Thelma Houston) eliminated.  I'm disappointed.  I actually thought she was the strongest performer tonight.  She was amazing on "Dancing in the Street".  I did like that we got to see the entire goodbye performance of her iconic signature song.  Most people who weren't around during the disco era are mainly familiar with Thelma Houston because of the frequent use of "Don't Leave Me This Way" in the early years of "American Idol" when it seemed like everyone was singing it.

I thought "You Oughta Know" was a poor choice for Goldfish.  I know she wanted to show that she is a little edgy, but that song is better suited for someone who can't really sing and just relies on screaming/shouting.  That song would have been perfect for the awful Medusa from last season.  Goldfish needed a song which showcases her amazing range and vocals.

I would have preferred a Clock/Goldfish finale.

Sorry to sound like a broken record (LOL), but Gumball's singing isn't consistent or clear enough for me.  When I can hear his voice, it is really good, but too many times it's a mix of him and background singers , without a focus on the featured singer.  Other times, it's muffled.  Thelma Houston and Goldfish have both had their vocals showcased each performance.  YMMV

Yes, the only thing I was sure of was that Goldfish would go into the finale even though I agree the song choice wasn't the best.

I'm a little disappointed that Clock didn't get to the finale but I also had a feeling that TPTB may have wanted a male in there.  When Rita first said Thelma Houston, I wasn't sure but it made more sense than some of the other guesses (a couple I could never see doing it and one isn't as mobile as she used to be).  But during the battle royale she hit a few notes and I knew Rita was right.

I also think TPTB didn't want two women in the finale, because Clock was better than Gumball in my opinion. I also agree that Fish should have chosen a different song, but I think this season is hers to lose.

I've guessed Thelma Houston for the Clock since her first week but watching her perform, and knowing she is 78 years old, was amazing. She should have been in the finale.

Goldfish goes last a lot. Seems unfair.

In fact, I hate the way the show seems to favour her. They act like she is some singular talent but she's just a good singer. And I find they really use the backup singers to make her sound stronger than she actually is.

Mostly I'm salty that we didn't get to see Clay and Ruben sing "A Moment Like This" That would have been epic.

I think the two remaining are the correct ones in the final.  Thelma Houston was the weaker of the three.  If this is a legit show and the audience really does vote, I'm guessing that most in the audience did not know who Houston was.  There are a lot of young people voting, so they voted for the younger sounding singers.
