S11.E12: Inventory

Finally, an episode featuring the whole squad. It’s nice to see you again, Adam! 👍🏻

This is a gripping episode - the suspense, the actions and the grittiness. I love it all.

A glimpse of Al’s photo invokes a sense of foreboding.

Frank Matson kills in pair - the incapable and the protector. My guess is Voight’s one call will be to Hailey. Jo has mentioned several times about their connection. Somehow Voight will survive this and Hailey will not make it. When was the last time they killed a main character?

If the show wants to avoid backlash from Upstead rabid fans, the ending will be Hailey leaving because of this trauma. Hailey mentioned several episodes ago about her brothers leaving Chicago for a better life.

Also, in some of those squadroom scenes did Kim appear to be multiple months pregnant? Or was it just me?

I noticed that too!

Who are we kidding, the only way they won't get backlash is if her ex-husband comes back, explains that he was in a coma & didn't sign the divorce papers & they ride off to his cabin in the woods.

^ Definitely my question too. I'm like was something on the doorknob? lol

I absolutely loved this episode. It felt like the CPD of old. Sooo good. I was invested the whole time. I always complain about not enough Atwater, but even that didn't bother me because it was just the entire team working a case. No personal drama, just a very intriguing case.

I can't believe it was Frank! The guy from the very beginning. He had me fooled; I really thought they had the wrong guy.

This episode helped redeem a really lackluster season. Kudos Jesse Lee!

I think Voight was already acting a bit strange while at the bar. He imagined everyone there was frozen in time and staring at him. Then, when he got home, he seemed a bit wobbly as he got out of his car and also seemed a bit off while calling in that license plate on the white car parked a few spaces in front of him too, but he definitely worsened by the time he entered his house. How he was drugged is definitely still a mystery, however. Hopefully we will find out in the season finale.

When did Voigt get that drug in his system?  He drove home from the bar with no problem.

I think someone spiked his drink at the bar. Contrary to how TV and movies often portray crushing a pill or dropping some liquid into someone’s drink as having an instant effect, this is not the case.  Medications given orally have to be metabolized and processed through your body before they get into your bloodstream. Many opioids, for example, start to work in about half a hour but don’t hit their full effect until an hour after ingesting them. They typically wear off, or lose most of their potency, after about 4 hours.

It’s the same if the drug is given IM (intramuscular). When people on TV instantly pass out after a jab in the arm or leg, this isn’t realistic either. IM injections still have to break down enough before they enter the bloodstream and still need half hour or so to start to work and longer to reach their full effect. If a drug is given IV, however, then it works pretty much instantly as it is going directly into the bloodstream. However, drugs given this way do not last as long because your body metabolizes them faster. There are many drugs, like propofol, which is only available in IV form, that basically stops working pretty quickly after it is put into an IV. Propofol is typically one of a combination of meds they will give you for general anesthesia or conscious sedation procedures.

I think when Voight was looking around the room in the bar and all the people were frozen that this may have been when he felt the first effects of the drug and I think one of the guys there was the serial killer (I remember him seeing a dark haired guy with a beard). If the killer was at the bar and spiked Voight’s drink he may have started to feel it at the bar or on his way home and then it may have reached it’s full effectiveness when he got home.

I’ll give them credit, this one was a nailbiter. And I am looking forward to seeing how it gets resolved next week. Also, in some of those squadroom scenes did Kim appear to be multiple months pregnant? Or was it just me?
