aghst January 8, 2024 Share January 8, 2024 (edited) Some recent news. Quote Even with the new teaser from Apple, I'm sorry to report that 2022's breakout series has become, shall we say, severed from its work-half. Following the WGA strike and rumors of drama behind the scenes, production on the show was halted indefinitely, according to Deadline—forcing audiences to sit with the first season's amazing cliffhanger. Luckily, according to producer Ben Stiller, production is finally back on. After a fan commented on the cryptic Apple teaser for Stiller to "give us a sign," the comedian responded, "We are working on it." Mark S., hold on, buddy. Stiller also recently shut down rumors of drama surrounding the series creator Dan Erickson and co-executive producer Mark Friedman. The two "ended up hating each other on the first season, per multiple sources," according to The Town's Matthew Belloni, with AppleTV+ going through several rewrites for Season Two. "No one’s going to the break room," Stiller responded on Twitter. "Love our fans and each other, and we all are just working to make the show as good as possible." Lumon Industries, I'm sure, is furious at the lack of efficiency. Those numbers aren't going to sort themselves! But Season Two is still very much in the cards for Severance. Team Severance has been tight-lipped on potential Season Two plot reveals, but Patricia Arquette did issue a sinister warning. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight a year ago, Ms. Harmony Cobel herself joked, “Be scared, very scared." She continued, "I think these guys have been working really hard, and come up with a lot of really creative things. They have a whole world in their minds. They just let us in, piece by piece, into what’s going on, but I think it will be fun and beautiful.” She also revealed that she loves to read fan theories, so if you've been trawling the Severance Reddit in the wee hours of the morning, just know—Arquette is watching. https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/tv/a39650190/severance-season-2/ Best case towards the end of this year or early next year? (Wait, what? I missed that!) https://newrepublic.com/article/190798/severance-season-2-apple-tv-review-frustrations Jeepers. That article is ruminations on the show and then bang bang bang bang bang a giant list of spoilers. I would assume the part you just mentioned is from an episode we haven't seen yet. I've gotta say, I really don't understand the impulse (which this article's writer seems to have, but not as bad as some others I've read) to watch a show that is mysterious and that you know you're in the middle of (ie lots of pieces still to play) and get shirty about the show being mysterious and holding its cards close. Like, that's how mysteries work! That's kinda totally their thing! :D Edited February 4 by ombre Shorty and shirty are two different words. You know, while I really enjoyed the ruminations of the article, I'm mad they didn't put up a warning. I'd much rather delete my post. It's interesting. I remember watching the first season 20 minutes at a time over lunch. So rich that those few minutes were satisfying and left me happy to ruminate until the next day. And then I got to the last 2 or 3 eps and just couldn't stop watching. I don't know how many eps the show has sent out for screener (I'd assume not the whole thing), but I wonder if they cut off just at that point where the season builds momentum and you're unbearably hungry to see what comes next and that poor sod is now stuck waiting along with the rest of us mere mortals. (since, as this guy shows, writers can't actually be trusted to not spill the beans way too early! :P) Might explain his immense dissatisfaction with what is left unanswered. And yeah, it's fascinating how the changing social media landscape has changed the spoiler landscape. It occurs to me that this is my longest-standing social network. By a lot. Especially if you trace this back to twop. I don't use any of the big ones and only participate in two incredibly niche discussion boards. And there's been such a long-standing set of rules here for how to deal with spoilers that I really never see them anymore! Gee... I suddenly feel kinda... Spoiled ! (In, you know, that other way.) arc February 12 Share February 12 from 2022: https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2022/jun/03/buffy-severance-good-place-writers-on-tv-twists Quote [BTVS' Jane] Espenson believes there are now few logical moves that shows can make that no one will anticipate (“Killing a main character, jumping in time, revealing a different culprit … they’re so familiar now”). The temptation, then, is for illogical twists, or red herrings. In one Severance scene our main characters stumble upon a strange room full of baby goats. I ask Erickson if he put it in there to distract the audience from figuring out other twists. “I was not allowed to put the goats in there until I had a pretty damn good explanation for how it would pay off,” he says (although viewers are still waiting on an answer). Erickson and executive producer Jackie Cohn used the term “Hurley Birds” to warn each other off nonsensical developments. Hurley was a central character in ABC’s twist-tastic Lost, and in two episodes of the show, a strange bird flies by and shouts his name. “Then it’s never referenced again, the whole show,” Erickson says. “They probably thought they could find something to do with it later – we are trying to avoid that.” 1 2 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/142580-severance-in-the-media/#findComment-8578457

arc February 24 Share February 24 I cannot get through more than a couple of pages of Ricken's book at a time. Stuff like "Studies show that first names tend to be particular to individuals, whereas surnames are tied to the family" or "Lucille Ball, who would shudder to learn her last name is now synonymous with a bouncing children's toy" -- Ricken is a galactic moron. I realize this is the point but I'm just not in the mind space for this kind of satire right now. Affogato February 26 Share February 26 (edited) https://atoday.org/the-kelloggs-the-battling-brothers-of-battle-creek/ i have a feeling this story is a lot of the inspiration for Severance. Or at least for the Eagans. That cornflakes were once believed to be antimastubatory and that one of the kelloggs ( I can’t find a reference but it is at least a myth, because I’ve heard it more than once) believed that eating cornflakes and following a goat around and drinking from her udder was a way to health…well, it explains the goats.
