I really liked this. Reminiscent of Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.

Sunny and Sadie Sandler might get crap for being nepo babies, but they were good. Really good. And they’ve been cameoing in Adam’s movies since forever, so if they want to keep doing movies with their dad, I think it’s sweet.

While Stacy should have had the good sense to delete that horrible video instead of leaving it in her laptop, the mom definitely crossed a line by breaking into it to email it to Lydia’s mom—even if her intentions were good and she was clueless about them fighting. I’m not sure if it was realistic that Lydia and Stacy could be friends again after, no matter how nice it was for Stacy to give Lydia her bat mitvah as a do-over.

And I have to say it: I didn’t have “Adam Sandler movie talks about menstrual cycle without making it a gross-out joke” on my 2023 bingo card, but I guess everyone grows up someday.

And neither of them watched the movie before sending it and having it played at the bat mitzvah? If I was one of them I would have watched it. Not because I would have expected it to be bad, but just out of curiosity.

I agree with everything you said. This one was really cute, I enjoyed it, and the Sandler girls have a lot of talent!

Plot hole.

Even if Lydia’s mom had no idea about the fight etc, just making sure it was the right version since Stacey didn’t send it herself would’ve happened in the real world.

The actresses were good even if they got the job from their dad.

Stacy was a horror of a friend. Lydia should have been done with her. When she said she was done should have stuck to that. But obviously with this movie style they were going to make up in the end.

I watched it last night with my kids and thought it was fun, and for the type of movie it was I enjoyed it. Thought it could have used more Adam, but I liked that his character was lazy but also a caring and involved father.

I was a little surprised they were good but not super surprised. It's like when people were surprised that Adam could actually act in Uncut Gems. But the guy has been staring in movies regularly since the 90's and works with acclaimed actors like Henry Winkler,  Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino and Kathy Bates. And he is good friends with Steve Buscemi, who has been in 10 or more of his movies. With that much time spent with people like that, he was bound to pick up some of their skills. And the same goes for his kids if they spent any amount of time on sets.

Forgot to mention my favourite part, when Sadie goes to the music playing is Past Life by Canadian rock band Arkells. They are one of my favourite bands and I have never heard them in a movie before. Saw them live last night and they played this song which is why I remembered it.

Finally caught this last night. It was cute, the Sandler girls are talented. Like others, it was unbelievable that no one watched the video before it played at the Lydia's bat mitzvah, that's just not how real life works. And yes, Lydia should have been done with Stacey but they are 13 year old girls and that actually felt accurate. Little Mateo was just adorable.
