Starchild May 1, 2023 Share May 1, 2023 Well Lily took advantage of that situation, didn't she? All the things she wants to say to Hank but can't bring herself to. 3 Link to comment
CattyK May 1, 2023 Share May 1, 2023 It felt like Lily was trying out the divorce conversation to see if that is really how she feels. I thought it was funny when the guy just slid over into the empty chair. Hank’s mother is despicable and his father too although now he’s mainly pathetic. When is Hank going to sever his connection to them? 4 Link to comment
Starchild May 1, 2023 Share May 1, 2023 Yeah I think that's what's really kept him stuck here. His relationship with his parents, looking for the love and validation he never got and never will. 2 Link to comment
SusieQ May 1, 2023 Share May 1, 2023 In the novel, the mom is not that bad. But the father is horrible. He doesn't have dementia and his only regret in life is that he was too hard on Dickens!!!!!! What a POS! 1 Link to comment

I thought the Dickens bit was pretty ironic, but it's also hard for me to gauge how far he's aware of what's going on. Last episode he was talking *about* Hank. This episode, I don't think he realizes that's his granddaughter's husband who was caught cheating. 18 hours ago, CattyK said: It felt like Lily was trying out the divorce conversation to see if that is really how she feels. When is Hank going to sever his connection to them? Obvious irony aside, I thought she was just giving that cheating guy a hard time. It was even more ironic that the cheated upon husband consoled him about the break, but, sure there was some projection there, but it doesn't seem so far that she really wants to leave Hank. Just commute to work in NYC and spend most of her time alone. 1 Link to comment
CattyK May 2, 2023 Share May 2, 2023 Yeah at first I thought Lily was totally messing with the guy. Which was very appropriate! But especially when she got to the part about making decisions and realizing those don’t include him, it got very truthful I thought. my feeling is that Lily has really tried to be a good spouse, and I would hope their marriage could survive, but good lord Hank needs to get himself together to make that happen. 2 Link to comment

SoMuchTV May 2, 2023 Share May 2, 2023 So when Hank parked uphill on the snowy street, did anyone else yell at him to turn his wheels to the curb? I've lived where there is neither snow nor hills for over 40 years but it's still ingrained in me! 2 2 Link to comment
Anela November 6, 2023 Share November 6, 2023 I can't remember which episode it was in, so I'm just saying here that I loved the conversation between Lily, Russell, and Julie. That was the funniest part for me. Link to comment
