Not in "Years and Years". (ANOTHER fantastic show, btw...)

He was kind of a villain in that.

Spoiler

He terrorized his brother's boyfriend. And his daughter found out about it and told her mom. And she confronted him and the gun came out...

I have an exceptionally hard time believing that a PM would cause the death of 41 servicemen and -women solely for political gain. Take advantage of something like that? Absolutely. Give the go-ahead for it to happen? No way.

Well now what ever the bomb guy wanted to tell Hal is going to be more important to know.

The PM bombing his own ship to start wars? Yikes.

Well the creator-writer-producer (Debora Cahn) of this series was a writer-producer on The West Wing and later Homeland, so it is no coincident.

This does seem like something out of Homeland, or 24.  Very implausible.

The whole incident -- the bombing of the British aircraft carrier -- is implausible, in reality, all of the discussions would be occurring way above Kate's level.  She is not Dennison's peer.  It would be the Secretary of State or the National Security Advisor talking to the Brits.  Or at a lower level, Kate would be talking to someone who's a peer.

Yeah I get that Kate is special because they are auditioning her to be VP but even that seems unlikely.  Typically they don't pick a non-politician, someone with no public profile whatsoever.

Can we think of a career diplomat who's attained high office, without ever having to run for anything?  For president and VP, foreign policy experience is important and Kate would certainly have that.  But she'd have no domestic experience whatsoever because she's never held elected office.

Certainly the bombing of the carrier lends urgency and makes the story sexy, even if it makes you wonder why the Ambassador, who typically hosts parties, would be so hands on with more of a national security matter than diplomacy.

You think of a diplomat as tamping down tensions but Kate is often hot, angry, spewing outrage -- very undiplomatic language which might repel some people.

Maybe it's the writing but a diplomat needs to be more like Felicity than Elizabeth Jennings.  Well more confident than Felicity but certainly more like her in temperament and tone than the take no prisoners style of a Russian spy and assassin.

In any event, now they add political intrigue and danger with the bombing in the season finale.

This show felt *a lot* like Homeland, sometimes my mind replaced Kate with Carrie.

100%, didn't help that they dress the same, right down to the ever present crossbody bag. I loved Homeland (& Claire Danes) so it didn't bother me.

Glad I finally found time to binge this one. I enjoyed it & looking forward to S2.
