S03.E04: The Land of Opportunity

In the "Land of Opportunity", the clowns are winning! Harper needs a bigger sample size to try and prove her point.

The NYPD had Lorenzo's name and prints all this time in their report and never questioned him about Zeke's death? Mecca's pilot must have mentioned "bald guy" to them in the report to get them on Lorenzo's tail.  What were they waiting for?

It's almost over for Lorenzo. At least, Cane apologized for putting him through all this after Lorenzo saved his ass from getting shot. Monet will not be that forgiving when the truth comes out.

At the apartment, Lorenzo didn't hear Monet mention his name to Davis? Meeca's apartment must be designed to drown out noise, so Lorenzo can't hear Monet and Cane couldn't hear the Castillo brothers talking last week.

Whitman to Monet at Zeke's mural: "Now I have ALL the time in world to watch you. When you slip up, I'll be there". It's you who slipped Whitman! Your time ran out! See ya!

Whitman fell for that trap way too easy. Fool didn't bother record Diana or let any close friends know the plan in case something goes wrong. He thought he was "Mission Impossible Time" putting the hood over his head, ready to burgle. That rush must have felt good!

Are we sure Diana didn't still have 911 on the phone when she and Monet were talking about setting up Whitman. She never told 911 their address to get there in time.

Too bad Monet's final words to Whitman was "and this is for my car mirror...bitch."

Now Whitman is gone, that should be the last the last we will hear of Carrie's name.

Anyone linked romantically to Carrie is doomed. Jabari, Zeke and now Whitman. Davis is the last survivor. Hope he makes it.

Diana couldn't hit Monet any softer. A good opportunity was given, and she didn't take it to knock her to the ground.

Which "Land of Opportunity" is Salim on? Every time he is alone with Diana...he so close but never gets the cookie. Get back to studying she says?!!! He should have run out the room and straight for a cold shower.

Uncle Weston couldn't think of a better sales pitch with all the resources at Weston Holdings. I thought he was a shrewd businessman. Where is Brayden's father? He is not involved in business deals there. They have a meeting with just the 3. Seems for a client supposedly this big, there should be more people in the room to show how important it is.

Of course, RSJ did his homework on Tariq. He played Tariq and Uncle Weston to get the building.

Shouldn't Tate wait to get the money before telling Tariq anything.

Tariq bought a Porsche. For a guy whose life was threatened by Noma, his first thought was to buy a flashy new car.

Effie now wants to go to Stanford grad and get out the business. All that talk of going legit from her might mean she is doomed soon. If you plan something positive on this show, that character will never see it come to fruition.

Dru and Gordo. It's like the show couldn't wait to advance this. Unreal!

If the Hillbilly's were going to be that stupid, just rob Brayden at the meet, take the guns and keep the cash.

Maybe the dumbest CI ever to go out shooting. Did he miss Lorenzo on purpose?

For a CI, he couldn't bother tip off the DEA so they could arrest Brayden, the Tejada's and the Milita that night. So stupid!

The CI gets a bullet to the spine and Blanca is told "He is in Critical Condition and a bullet hit his spine". Her reply "I need to question him when he is able". Blanca is the worst! She had to get a good night's sleep while all this went down. She never acted on it immediately when she received news of the gun purchase and all the players involved.

Lorenzo should have put Zeke's face higher up so no fool can spray paint all over it. Give Zeke blacked out teeth and graffiti all over his face.

Diana arrived with flowers and left with the flowers. Didn't even place them by Zeke. She probably got a refund at the flower shop.

The show is pushing way too hard to try and convince us Lauren is some valuable CI. She knows nothing.

Could we have at least seen how Diana moved drugs on campus. Tariq and Brayden spent a season building their operation and Diana Tejada (not under a close eye due to her last name) gets rid of a brick in less than a week with no help.

The way Lorenzo said to Gordo "Give Evelyn my love". I wouldn't be surprised if Lorenzo is sleeping with her.

Now Monet has to sleep in a place where she killed Mecca and then she will go back to her home where she killed Whitman. Monet needs to move to a new home.

Could Lauren at least finish the jigsaw puzzle before she complains about no Wi Fi.

Can Davis not say to Monet "This is NOT what we planned" as there are at least 20 NYPD standing in her living room?

Cane is at the bar, tells a girl "For real. I'll leave all my shorties for you", gets a text and tells her "Beat It". This girl gets up and leaves without telling him off. LOL

At least we now know the bar a bartender.

Tiny, better stop fucking up the orders.

Lol! Cops and lawyers never fare well on this show. I don't know that Davis will make it....And how is Davis giving Monet paperwork that he hasn't fully read through? That seems like rookie mistake.

Whitman should have seen this trap coming from a mile away! But Monet has lost her damn mind executing a cop like that in her home. And I know the cops on this show aren't shit, but any competent detective should be able to put together that Whitman has no bruising on his hand.

Dude calling Brayden a pale gnome and hurting his feelings. 😆

Not to spoil all of the fun that the Power universe dreams up, but in every fund manager's that I've worked for or worked with had coffee machines in their office. If you wanted coffee, they had array of different types of one-serving coffees that you can make coffee with. Having coffee, and only coffee, delivered to the office would look weird.

Do they only have one delivery guy? LOL

I assume this mural of Zeke is right outside of Monet's bar?

Saxe is such an insecure little man. We knew that already but I felt the need to reiterate.

Effie and Cane are funny together. Cane, correctly, guesses that Effie "killed" Lauren. Effie tries to put a wall between herself and Cane, and Cane don't give a single fuck.

Does Detective Whitman actually detect anything? Have we ever seen him actually investigate? It seems his only job is harassing people?

Method Man is good at playing a crooked lawyer. He'll do anything for the right price.

Davis says Diana is the only Tejada without a rap sheet.... so I guess Dru's been arrested before?

Tate is hilarious. Tate is an ain't-shit asshole that I love to watch. "Weekly donations. Five bands. Send it in bitcoin to my private account." LOL

Saxe took a picture of Jenny's "ho phone." My guess is that he's going to find out that Lauren is alive. Because Saxe is a fuck-up and he can't help it, he's going to let it slip out that Lauren is alive, and then someone will, again, try to kill Lauren.

I'm also guessing that Jenny will catch Effie going to the rooftop lockers.

I'm suspicious of the TA. Why would he suggest Diana break away from her family?

I had to watch the scene and Blanca and Jenny a couple of times because I was having a hard time following what she was saying. I guess I have to go back to see what their 'theories of the logistics of the Tejada drug business. I'm not understanding why they think the Tejadas would step into Mecca's shoes and be moving Mecca's product now. If they're watching Mecca's penthouse, they would know or should know Gordo Castillo was at the penthouse, but instead they only know that his car was "in the area" of the penthouse.

Jenny says she got the rooftop tip from Saxe, but I thought that was an unnecessary lie because who she got the tip from was information that didn't need to be said at all, at least, said to Blanca.

I feel like Whitman should have known that was a setup. Diana and Monet interacting with each other makes me chuckle. "That's why I ain't tell your ass the whole fuckin story. Now shut up and hit me." LOL

I don't know why Monet needed to make up this whole self defense story because if the idea is to make it look like he burglarize their house while they were home, that's sufficient legal justification to shoot them in the ass. The intruder doesn't need to attack you in order to give you just cause to shoot them in the ass. Simply breaking into someone's home while the homeowner is there is good enough. Diana didn't need to hit Monet. Monet didn't have to make it look like she had been attacked. Monet didn't didn't need to say that she warned him. However, they did need to make it look like he broke into their house. But fuck it! They create the Power world, and I'm just a viewer.

They don't.

Once Whitman started mouthing off to Jenny and Blanca and Saxe joining the group "officially", I should have sensed he was expendable, and his end was coming.

Davis did have a funny "Oh! Shit" look on his face when Monet asked him if he had seen the report.

I don't know NYC gun laws but with ex-con Lorenzo in the house, Monet is allowed to keep a gun on the house?

LOL. And then there will be that one office manager who questions why no one is using the machine, then send a company email reminding them to use it and Brayden will have that person fired.

Also, in this universe, where is the "goody two shoes" college student who sees drug selling on campus and make continuous anonymous calls to the police?!

Tiny is being punished. The one who messes up has to hit the streets.

When he was with Tate's brother, he seemed like a decent detective. But since then, he has done nothing.

For some reason, Jenny has Lauren staying at (I guess) her parent's home. The phone Lauren is using has to be landline and that's how Saxe will trace the address. Jenny got approval from her boss, why use her home? Use a government place.

Every time Effie goes to the roof, a bird will mess up the camera. Effie will never get caught on video.

Salim made sure to google Lorenzo. He thinks he is some kind of savior. He made sure to say to her "you keep running errands for your father" and "Cane keeps coming bye". He is always watching her every move.

But Diana put on her card "Independence" so that gave him the opening to "keep pushing" for her to part with her family.

He keeps doing this, he will be done soon.

On the other hand, I think the writers set up that Diana/Salim scene so we can next see Diana go to Whitman and make us think she is turning on her family.

They supposedly have surveillance of the Tejada penthouse, and the best they can do is know that the car was in the area? Not that Gordo went up to the penthouse or just generally in the building? Just that the car was in the area?

Also Blanca made that wild guess before Jenny reveal the "Frank" information (Blanca's reaction gave me the impression that she was just learning that little bit of info for the first time) so it was like she assumed the Castillos and the Tejadas were connected before learning that they actually are connected... based on just being in the vicinity???? Not seeing them talk? Not seeing them meet up? Just in the area?

It's just not clicking with me how they arrive at the conclusion that the Tejadas are not moving Mecca's drugs and guns.

I feel like the cart was put before the horse. I'm having a little trouble connecting those dots.

I literally said the same thing. You have fingerprints at the crime scene of Zeke's death? You can identify whose prints they are? and Lorenzo is never brought in for questioning about Zeke's death?

SO NOT ONLY COULD THEY GET A DESCRIPTION OF THE PERSON FROM THE PILOT! THEY. GOT. FINGERPRINTS!

I try to resist saying each episode is stupid every week but... come on! 😑

What are we missing? This was Whitman's file, if I'm remembering correctly, because Monet asked Davis to get whatever Whitman had on her and Davis brought back this file? Are we to assume that only Whitman had this file and this fingerprint analysis?

Why would Whitman harass Monet but not Lorenzo because he had Lorenzo's prints for Zeke's murder?

As much as I try to dislike Tate, I just can't. He's such a dick, but so much smarter than the rest of them and always focused on what's best for him. They're all playing tic-tac-toe and he's playing that 3-D version of chess where the board has multiple levels. His deviousness, coupled with everyone else's "how the hell did I get played by him again?!" keeps me chuckling every time.

It makes no sense. They must think we are stupid.

It was taken from Whitman's apartment (that shouldn't be the only file), but more detective's eyes should be on this high-profile Zeke case.

Monet and Lorenzo should be dealing with the next detective.

Now that his Book has been cancelled, his plot armor suit is gone.

One thing about that Militia, it seems the CI was in charge as he did all the talking to Braydon, ordered the guys to grab the box of guns and called for eyes on Braydon. If he is in charge, who is informing on??? He makes all the decisions.

So, it was his idea to follow Brayden and get involved in a shootout? Once he got Lorenzo's pic, the recon was over. Go back home and give the intel to the DEA.

Diana can do no wrong!!!!! She can sell drugs quickly and can lie to the police with ease.

I don't think Brayden's sister (Becca Weston) is involved now. She may be later.

Maybe Diana is selling through the campus shop where she works?!

Yes. She is competing with Effie.

In the first episode, when Lauren was revealed to be alive, the camera passed a table with many pictures of Jenny (with a graduation cap on, with her father or grandfather, a picture of when she was a horse). It was a quick glance, so that made me think she is at her parent's home.

Also, there are agents watching Lauren, she can easily ask one of them to get her some real food or internet to use. Not sure why she is constantly calling Jenny.

Finish that jigsaw puzzle!

I imagine he's taking pictures because he's the CI giving the DEA (or some other agency) tips.

I can’t anything else about the militia group make sense from what we saw. The agent that Blanca talked to identifies him as the CI ("...shock in the back..." blah blah blah). Why he would have his people storm into that hotel room where Cane and Lorenzo were... I don't know.

I highly doubt the CI is in charge of the milita group- he has to do what his superiors tell him or he blows his cover aka they shoot him on the spot. The group were going to double cross them, take the money back and kill them and buy more guns.

My naive self thought it was a dumb fucking idea for Lorenzo and Cane to go up there with no backup to sell guns to a bunch of racists with only BRAYDEN there. At least Dru and Gordo covered them. I originally thought Lorenzo wasn’t coming back from this mission and he would die protecting Cane.

They were doing a gun sale arranged by Gordo with this dude (Bryden) they never met, they already don’t trust Gordo because they are a white supremicist (why can’t I spell that word!) group and he’s not even there!! Then they see a guy they think is alone get the money- easy target to steal the money back and keep the guns. Lorenzo and Cane would’ve been dead if Dru and Gordo hadn’t been covering their asses.

There is one guy in the group who’s a CI for Blanca, who fed the info (might have even captured some photos) about the meeting to her-but he’s not the leader. He’s a watcher and reporter, but he can’t blow his over.

FINALLY!!  He was foine af but glad Whitman finally got capped, he was so cocky and annoying.  Monet was cold though before shooting him….”Tell that bitch Carrie I said what up!”  Yeah, like Davis said, she a bad bitch!  Maaaan, when she confronts Papi about what she knows, it’s gonna be fire!!

I don’t normally find him attractive but Cane has been on the sexay train the last couple of eppies.  From his calling Papi out and treating him like a gofer to his thirsting after Effie, Woody’s been bringing it.

I can’t stand Brushandria or whatever her name is….I think it is the cursing in class and in front of the staff, didn’t her parents teach her any manners?!

Salim gets slimier and slimier, I don’t trust him at all and he’s probably a CI.

Lovell Adams-Gray plays Dru so well that I thought he was gay in real life.

Yes. I always wonder why Brushabdria uses so much profanity IN CLASS. socially that’s her business, but speaking to your professor that way?

Salim is slimy- TAs aren’t supposed to hook up with students in their class. It’s a power imbalance as they grade papers etc. Same reason Carrie shouldn’t have been having sex with Zeke although he wasn’t actually in her class. I don’t trust Salim one wit.

The TA has enough public earnestness combined with a desire to get exactly what he wants that I am surprised he hasn't been offered a consulting job with the Tate campaign.  There has to be agenda beyond simple eye candy.

Glad Cane is pulling back from being so heavy handed with his father.  Since he badly needs Dad's advise.  What am I saying?  Cold blooded murdering drug trafficker.  Not that I need worry too much about his prospects since getting in business with Tariq is the surest way to go on a long dirt nap.

Speaking of future organ donors Effie expressing hopes and dreams about a bright optimistic future?  I have watched enough tv shows to know where THAT quickly leads.  Will Tariq off her for "killing" his ex?   Or will someone else have the honors?

Since there is only room for one idealistic good natured law abiding citizen on the show and her name is Ashley Fitzpatrick and she gets mocked for it every episode Tariq goes to class there has to be something up with the black billionaire he was tasked with trying to bring over to the firm.

My conspiracy theory?  Jenkins is the real big bad for the season.  And he's the boss of the "connect" folks shaking down Tariq, Brayden, and Cain.  He's there to observe Tariq in plain sight as well as have the Weston family launder his ill got gains.

I like Saxe and him being all idealistic the end of last season start of last season made me very worried for his fate since no good deed in the Power universe goes unpunished.  What would Power be without his slimy self slithering around?  He's the white Tariq who somehow always survives the carnage of everyone around him getting massacred.  In fact if Tariq ever gets a law degree they should start a firm called, "Baad Noos and Howe."  I've got a hunch he is going to double cross the DA and the cop.  Particularly now that the DA is not putting out.

I have mentioned this since the original Power was still on. I understand cell phones drive the narrative.  But do they have to be THAT incriminating and constantly admit to criminal conspiracies and even all but live blog their criminal acts?  I mean forget the cops and the feds who one day will realize they can get that all that information from the cell phone companies.  Is Effie really going to leave those text messages with Cane implicating her in "killing" Tariq's ex on her phone while Tariq is sleeping right next to her and could conceivably catch her by simply reading her text messages?

If Jimmy McNulty ever moves from Baltimore to NYC these guys are screwed.

Finally got back to this show.

Looks like Mary J's back in the action big time. Can't wait until Monet figures out what's going on between Cane and Lorenzo.

"Ho phones"? Is that what they're calling burner phones now?

Brayden in his Burberry puffer jacket. Way to be an inconspicuous drug dealer, Trust Fund Boy.

College lesson of the day: if you're not born into a wealthy, elite family a good alternative is to have had a father who was a major criminal. Who you murdered. 🙄

"The Black Elon Musk." Yikes, that's not exactly a compliment, especially to a Black man.

Someone should've explained to Cooper Saxe how to pronounce "consigliere."

Salim could stand to eat a sandwich or three. I actually gasped when they showed how skeletal his body is.

And then Dru showed up in a Burberry puffer jacket too. Did the wardrobe people get a product placement deal with Burberry?

Nothing like a bullet wound to get you all hot and bothered. Seriously, Dru?

I think that lesson was to demonstrate that although Tariq is a little shit, he is a privileged little shit compared to many of his classmates. He had two parents that loved him and were involved in his upbringing- both Tasha and Ghost were smart people who managed their legally money well and set up their kids to succeed (having trusts for all three kids if something happened to them, and for their education).

If Ghost and Tasha weren’t drug dealers, and just a couple who’s marriage fell a part and Ghost died young in a car accident, while people would feel for Tariq on a human level (losing a parent young), no one would think there was anything difficult about his life.

Ghost fucked up in a lot of ways as Dad but he didn’t do anything that would warrant Tariq MURDERING him. Especially since Raina died due to TARIQ’S involvement with Kanaan and the drug life.

That's the way the audience should see it but I don't think Tariq does. I think Tariq views his parents being good enough at criming to stack up money for their kids' futures is his substitute for being born on third base and getting to act like he hit a home run.  Tariq sees himself as more of a bootstrapper than an elite.

Having ancestors who came over on the Mayflower, or simply being raised in a two-parent home, are not necessarily predictors of future success or happiness. IMO, at best those are guarantees of the world expecting you not to fail, despite perhaps being Black (or at least not White) in the United States. The world may not know you actually grew up in a toxic environment where one or both parents may have been, for example, veiled criminals or functional addicts. And that you've decided to continue operating in the illegal path they were on because you're so much smarter and better at it than they were. 🙄

Right- I’m talking about the audience, not Tariq. Tariq has always acted like the world owes him something and that he’s the smartest thing to ever breathe air.

Ghost and Tasha never wanted this life for him, they wanted more their kids.

I do think he genuinely loves his mom and Yaz, but if he had any sort of emotional maturity he would stop acting as he was this tortured soul doing all this for them. He does this because he wants to.
